Great Subs, my favorite is Rare Beef (Real Beef unlike Arby's) Smaller sandwich is called Beefamiel is amazing! Fresh baked sub rolls baked hourly! Wide array of great high end subs!!
I am a very fussy person who won't just fill my stomach with fast food EVER!!
The sub guys & girls that work there are very accommodating and courteous!
We live over ten miles from Amiel's, but we eat there weekly! Another local sub shop is Debella's which CAN"T come close to Amiels in any stretch of your imagination!!

This is just a sub shop... Chips, sodas, soup and subs. But the subs and ingredients are on a whole different level than any other. They are so good that whenever we are in Rochester we have to eat at least one meal there. They are so good that, even though we live 2 hours away, my husband wants to drive there just for dinner. Yeah, it's that good. No kidding.

Let's start with the history of this place ... because it helps reveal why I think Amiel's is a treasure for submarine sandwich lovers. 1963 - Amiel's opens its location in the downtown city and is claimed to be the first submarine shop in Rochester (I tend to doubt that given all the deli's in Rochester but it may have been the first dedicated to the submarine. Whatever, it has been here for 50 years which is an achievement.) My friend from here tells me he had his first one in 1964 and at the time, there were half hour waiting lines. There are two locations now - one in Henrietta and one in Victor. Like a great pizza, with a great sub you have to start with the bread. Amiel's bakes their own bread so it is fresh. They will also butter and toast it for you if requested - highly recommended. For me the only choice of topping here is what they are known for - their roast beef. It is real beef (unlike the mystery pressed meat of say, Arby's), it is rare to medium rare and it is delicious. Several different varieties of types of bread are offered. There are the usual limited toppings - that is okay - too many toppings on a sub overwhelm the flavors. Simplicity has its virtues. The toppings and the beef are very fresh. The restaurants themselves are also well decorated and the sub "creators" are knowledgeable and most importantly, happy and friendly. There is snappy old pop tunes background music and inspired soda (pop) choices. A very large roast beef sub costs $8.69 (they call it a jumbo). I am not going to diss DiBella's - they too make great subs - but DiBella's is now a big franchise operation and has lost that small place feel and appeal it used to have. With Amiel's you can honor a local establishment that has not only survived, but has succeeded without trying to go big corporate. We have enough cookie cutter franchise restaurants in America. Amiel's doesn't try to be much more than a great sub shop - but that is all it needs to be. And if you can't go to Amiel's for whatever reason (distance maybe) go to a local deli, locally owned, and eat the real thing there.

Amiels bakes their own bread for their subs. The subs are available in 3 sizes. They recently had a promotion celebrating 50 years in business. They were selling the jumbo italian assorted sub for $1.59. The price it was 50 years ago! Soda's were 50 cents!

This is a company that appreciates their customers and gives back.

I stumbled upon Amiel's while looking for a place to eat dinner after picking my son up from college. The main menu here is straight-up subs, which were much tastier and better quality than what you would find in a chain restaurant. While subs are subs, and there's only so much you can say about them, the staff at Amiel's were extremely friendly and pleasant to talk to. They offered a casual, no-stress vibe that got us smiling. My son and I opted to dine in and found the restaurant to have a spotless comfortable decor reminiscent of the '50s, as pop music from that era played over the speakers. If you're in the mood for subs, this is your place to go.
