“not enough elevators! lots of road construction all around, tough to park at hotel, people smoke outside valet parking”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

The hotel staff is the saving grace for this establishment. The ladies at check-in save the day. The parking garage is "attached" to the hotel, but one has to use a different set of elevators for the parking garage and the main hotel. It is a mess...walk to the rear elevators, go up 5 floors (after a lengthy wait) find your car in a garage that is split between public parking and hotel parking, then wait again for elevator, go down to lobby, then long walk to elevators, LONG WAIT for elevators. Parking is $4 to $8 per day. There are not enough elevators for a 25 story building. LONG LONG Wait for elevator. Complimentary coffee in morning was a welcome surprise! People smoke right outside valet parking area, so when you get your car, you can have a couple of smokes for free. I think everyone in the city smokes right outside the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms have city view of Rochester New York. Rochester, not maui.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I apologize the hotel did not suit your needs better as we did our best to move the large group which was visiting our hotel from there meetings and rehearsals.

Although our Main Street may look uninviting right now, change is in the air. We are excited about many new developments in the downtown area such as those at the former Midtown site including the nearly completed Windstream Corporation Building; the Midtown Tower revitalization into mixed use retail, offices and housing; the new roads and park (scheduled for late summer completion) going in at the Midtown site; the plans the Winn Corporation has for the former Sibley Building on Main Street (this company revitalized Faneuil Hall in Boston). Also, we have a new Transit Center going up just around the corner from Main Street; and many housing units being built in historic buildings in the downtown neighborhood.

This is an older hotel with very slow elevators and dirty stairwells with dust clumps in the hallways. The restaurant's "Italian buffet" is clearly shipped to them frozen and microwaved with high salt content and lukewarm food, semi-frozen desserts. I question if they actually have a cooking kitchen instead of shelves of microwaves. The neighborhood is sketchy with aggressive homeless people after 5pm. I am very surprised and disappointed in this "Hyatt". The only redeeming qualities are very friendly and helpful staff, the beds are comfortable, and the pool is nice.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I am saddened to hear our food quality was not up to standards. I can assure you our Chef is dedicated to using fresh local ingredients for all our buffets. I have shared your comments with him so he can again take it back our team so we may improve.

On the positive side, the staff were all really very pleasant and efficient. And the location is perfect for business downtown.

BUT, the hotel is dated and poorly designed and not well maintained. For example:
- The sliding closet doors were wildly off track. So we had a hard time using the closet.
- There was no lamp on one side of the bed, so only one of us could read in bed at night.
- The Health Center was the only one I've ever been at that didn't have either a water cooler or bottled water for after a workout.
- The bolt in the door didn't work.
- There were no shelf space in the bathroom or on the sink. It was so lacking in space that the glasses had to be kept in the room, not in the bathroom.

I could go on, but you get the idea: not worth $350 a night!!!!

The only place that I stay at in Rochester New York is the Hyatt Regency. The staff is great, and they also have a great bar that is reasonably priced. It is also located right downtown so you teally have no issue withe getting a cab for either university st.,or the pepsi arena for a show.highly recommend!

Room Tip: I recommend the pure rooms

This is an average hotel at the very best end of the spectrum. The conference areas were adequate and did well for the conference I attended but the rooms were in need of updating and the maids did not change the sheets in our room once! (and no, there was no card or information in the room about saving water and not changing sheets) I found this an unappealing aspect of staying here. The bottom of the door in our bathroom was peeling, tilework was showing a good deal of aging. The beds were very uncomfortable, not at all healthy for your back. We ordered room service twice and both times our orders were messed up. We did not send anything back because we were hungry and we ordered room service for the convenience of speed and eating in our room. For some strange reason, the staff changed every bill to read my guests' name, who was not paying, and couldn't seem to get it switched, even before I came home. Upon arrival home, I received a survey, in my e-mail box, in my guests name. I felt this showed poor attention to detail by the staff. Also, the night before we left, because we were leaving in the middle of the night, we arranged to have a taxi at the hotel at 3:15 am. We arranged this with a desk clerk named Shaughn. When we came down at 3:15 am, no taxi and the guy working the desk found not evidence of a taxi ever being called. Again, poor attention to detail and poor follow through. If our conference ever comes back to Rochester, I'll be staying elsewhere.

Room Tip: Stay at a different hotel.

I had a great stay in July at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Rochester. I was there for work with the University of Rochester and found the location to be ideal for all of the things i wanted to do. the staff was courteous and extremely helpful. I did not eat at the hotel so I cannot comment on the food, but the restaurants looked great. Only issue I had was in the parking garage, which was no fault of the hotel. It is currently under construction, which made coming and going kind of a chore. Otherwise, I would definitely stay at this property the next time I'm in Rochester.

Thank you very much for your review. We really appreciate the 4 out of 5 stars. I apologize for the Rochester City garage next door to us. The city is in the process of improving the garage and does have some construction going on. They hopefully should be done soon so when you come back again it will be complete, well lite and great signage. See you next time.

This hotel was a standard Hyatt -- well appointed, clean and quiet. It is a little pricy given its location in the grungy downtown area of Rochester. If you are going to a convention it is an excellent choice - just a short walk to the convention on an inside walkway. There are limited eating choices in the surrounding area, but cabs are plentiful to take you to a decent restaurant. Service was slow for breakfast, which can be a problem if you are trying to make it to a early morning conference session.

The only real negative that I saw was that I thought the housekeeping service was less than thorough. There was a scrap of grey soap wrapper left in my shower, a penny and a few small pieces of yarn that I dropped that were still on the floor after they cleaned my room. This was a small problem, but for the price you'd hope for at least a little vacuuming each day
