“Do you hate room service?”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Hi,

I stayed here from July 1 - July 3 and spent my 50th birthday here. Sadly, there were many problems...

1. Our room had a constant noise in it, which aggravated us so much that we asked what we could do. Apparently, there was nothing that could be done so we were moved to a new room (Yea!), and on behalf of the hotel, it was a better quality room (why this review is not 1 star).

2. Maid service? Come on, who wants people coming into your room and cleaning it? None. Nada. Someone came by asking if we needed towels on the last morning of our stay. Vacuum floors? Not necessary. If you can't stand maid service - then have I got the place for you.

3. In an effort to assuage our "bad fortunes", the staff (who seemed to try and help) gave us a coupon for free breakfasts to be used up until 11 AM. The next morning we go down at 9:50 AM - but they were closed for breakfast. Guess those were pretty worthless amenities...

4. Apparently there was some change in ownership on July 1st, and we were the guinea pigs for the new owners and we were the ones to pay the price...unfortunately, we didn't get any discounts or benefits - except for the ones not honoured by the hotel, anyway.

With this in mind, I would not recommend staying at this hotel for anytime in the foreseeable future...maybe if "other" guinea pigs have been there after then next 9-10 months and report that conditions are better, I would stay again (mainly for location)...but was very disappointed in most things EXCEPT for the staff that was there trying to be helpful...

Room Tip: Find one in a different hotel that has maid service.

This was a disgusting place. I had a reservation for 2 nights but we are checking out early. It appeared that someone was smoking in our non-smoking room so we asked to be moved. The carpets are dirty and the bed linens had an odor. The furniture looks very worn out and the hallways need to be vacuumed. Do yourself a favor and look for another place to stay..

We booked this room through Hotwire for $99/night for 3 nights. Once we reached the hotel after a long road trip, first impression was made upon entering the lobby, there were several out-dated, sunken in "leather" and fabric couches and chairs. Then when we got to building C, which was located in the back of the hotel, first thing I noticed was an odor in the hallway and all of the room doors were painted (pale green) the bathroom doors were also painted(dingy cream). Then when I entered the room, it smelled like an old basement, primarily coming from the bathroom. The room itself looked as though it was renovated by crackheads that were paid $3/hour for their work. Inside the toilet was stained, every crease and corner of the bathroom was filthy, two different prints of wallpaper and above the bathroom sink was the light fixture and you could plainly see multiple long wires and cords running through and it was dirty as well. Once I laid in the bed, my feet and my cousin's feet in the next bed felt clammy/moist, when we adjusted the air it seemed to have went away. All go my family wanted to change hotels and notified Hotwire the very next morning and they couldn't do a thing but offer us another location that would have been another $100/night. My aunt had mold behind her toilet on the floor, my mom's juice was stolen out of the fridge by housekeeping, the same corona bottle cap was on my mom's flood before we checked in and was there when we checked out. The only thing the hotel did was switched us from super crappy rooms to just crappy rooms! I went to my mom's room cause it was less crappy than mine and they moved her to another room and my aunt to another room (both still crappy). Anyone that dares to make a good review about THIS hotel is either a crackhead, an employee, a pimp, prostitute or just clinically insane! PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU... DO NOT BOOK A ROOM AT THE CLARION!!!

My wife and I decided to stay at the Clarion after reading Trip Advisors reviews of another hotel further up the Island. We frequent different areas of the country and our expectations were about neutral considering the area we selected. We like to explore so this was a 'mid-point' on the Island.
We look at various things to 'rate' an establishment:
The number one is cleanliness. This hotel was a 3 out of 5. The staff was about average in keeping the room clean. However the hallways were not so fortunate.
Accoutrements... Our room was quite a ways down the hallway. about 600-700 steps. An ice machine just up the hall was not working despite a maintenance person repairing it midway into our stay. We needed to walk 3/4 of the way back to the front desk to get it. Near that machine the ceiling was falling down behind the ice maker. I asked a denizen who had stayed two years prior and he confirmed that it was in similar condition at that time. Upon scrutiny of the building structure, it is in need of a major facelift. This took away from the 'feel' of the place considerably.
The pool was clean and seemed to operating very well.
The front desk staff were a bit inattentive and didn't seem to be as customer focused as I would have hoped. I spoke to a slightly discontented concierge and they relayed to me a change in ownership. An air of dilligaf was apparent.
Despite being near the airport we did not experience much disruption.
The restaurant was a gem. We sat at the bar and had a couple of apps. Not bad.. The bartender was great. The continental breakfast was poor. Seemed like the staff were running in different directions most of the time. Seemed to be a communication issue.
Not being familiar with this area I suppose that $500 we spent for a three night stay was average???
Probably could have stayed in the City for the same and taken in a show...

We booked this hotel from on the road passing though Long Island on business as a reasonable compromise between price and 'luxury'. Overall I thought the value was good for the area. The rooms were quite large and looked like they had been refurbished recently. They did not smell musty like some have reported. However the hallways were much more basic decor and some of the doors had been roughly 'repaired' on the outside and in definite need of refurbishment. This is a large hotel with quite good amenities for business travelers. The noise level was about average - until three planes took of in the morning seemingly from directly outside the bedroom window. The breakfast buffet was fairly small and would have been good if included with the room charge - as an extra it seemed a bit over priced, especially if all you want is a cup of coffee and cereal.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not on the runway - they'll get the point..

My stay the first night was interesting to say the least. I was greeted in my room by what seemed to be a porn movie in the making! It was not to be out done by young teens screaming and running amok without parental supervision. When I complained at the front desk they said they would send security to take care of it. This continued without resolution or any indication of security for hours. At 3:30am,having not slept,I left . I would have slept better in my car. In my opinion this wasn't a hotel it was a dirty, smelly, noisy zoo. Don't waste ANY of your money to stay here. For $20 more you can stay at a clean, quiet, competently run hotel in the area.
