“Really lovely retreat”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

We stayed here for 5 nights. We loved it. Its like your own home with every convenience at hand. The owner was very accommodating and easy to talk to. We stayed while attending a funeral in Roscoe. The other guests were there for fishing and were having a great time. My husband is from Roscoe originally and even he was impressed by it. The relaxing atmosphere was lovely and the convenience to the town and the lakes is fantastic. I would recommend especially if your from overseas like myself because it has everything you could want to experience in a small American town. It lets you see what its like to live in a house in the American countryside and experience excellent customer service.

We loved fishing on the Delaware gap, It was a great day. The B & B was like a picture perfect house., So home like and the owners were very happy to share all the fishing and local information. We will return again, in the near future. Thank you for all the fun !!

Room Tip: All rooms are great, maybe the room by the kitchen is good for a midnight snack !

If you don't fish, consider the amenities: clean kitchen for your meal prep, a fridge where your food or beverages will not be pilfered, a grill to cook a steak, rooms with private baths or not, but the bathrooms are clean. There's cable and if you do fish a wonderful library of books and DVDs. The fly shop on property is not huge, but they have everything you need.

Kenny Tutalo and his lovely wife, Michelle,
are on call. They have kept this place going in a highly seasonal business coinciding with 12 weeks of "insect on the water" madness from mid April to July. I have stayed in the finest full service inn and in a
cabin I rented by the day in the area. Yet, the Baxter house, if you return there, starts to feel like a home away from home. Ok, we're just there to sleep and maybe cook dinner. But after a day in my office, that's all my home is, too. Roscoe and its environs have quirky cut off times for the kitchens in most restaurants. If you fish with Kenny's guides, plan on a late dinner. Plan on having something quick and easy you can nuke in the kitchen. It's been a long day on the water. If you wade by yourself, do grab a steak at a market in Roscoe or Livingston Manor and cook it on the grill. You'll have full run of the place and you can get a good night's sleep.

Flyfishermen talk a good game. They don't write much. You better act early to reserve a room in season, and listen to Ken. He or his shopkeeper will tell you where to fish and what flies to use. His website is superb.
ThIs is not a hotel, there is no breakfast per se, though coffee and some baked goods are sometimes served. Most guests eat breakfast at the infamous diner in town. The porch is a great place to chill and you can rely on this establishment to be on call if you get the urge to go up to the Catskills to fish or hunt. Previously booked rooms do open up in high season on occasion. Getting any room in the area then, if it's spur of the moment, is tough. I used to insist on staying near the water. But, after 8+ hours fishing, that's not really necessary. I've gotten into the vibe here, and Ken and the cast of guides and guests can be entertaining. If you fish, you know of this place. If not, the Baxter House is not just a guest house, but a home away from home if you're planning a few days. Base any Catskills stay here.

Great Fly Fisherman's retreat. We come twice a month regularly. Ken and his staff are super and the house is spotless. Truly the most knowledgeable guide on the Delaware system. When we stayed they put new carpet and furnishings in the house. Like our own house in the country.

We stayed up here this last summer while we fished the Beaverkill. The place looks decent from the outside and the person who checked us in was friendly. The room was a disaster, though. We didn't have high expectations going in, but they weren't even close to being met.

The room was just not clean in our opinion. There were a few bugs in the room and on the walls. I don't mind bugs but not where I sleep. The room was also tiny with 3 little twin beds that weren't comfortable. I didn't even want to use the shower as there was some hair in it.

We left after one night.

Perhaps the other rooms are nicer or cleaner, but I didn't see these.

I felt like I was an intruder. The owner never came to meet us, and we did not see him until it was time to pay. Our room was ok, but one of the beds was totally unacceptable as the mattress was horrible. We stayed in room 4 with the 3 twin beds to accomodate the 3 of us. Also I got charged an additional $10 wasn't supopose to supposedly for a 3rd person...isn't that why there are 3 beds?!?! Great sales pitch but no delivery, especially in the hospitality area.
