While living in NY, my wife and I had gone for a sushi quest and found this place. This is a small restaurant, always packed. During weekends it is not unheard of waiting for over one hour for a table and they do not take reservations... and there is a reason for that: the sushi is not only amazing, but also one of the best deals around. If you do not know what to order, the sushi for 1 (which is really enough for 2) will make your day. Some of their rolls are amazing like the Roslyn number 9 (probably not for sushi purists). I cannot recommend it enough! If you do not want to wait, show up at 5 or at 9!

I went to Kotobuki after it first opened and I recently returned for lunch. Service was ok, but my three sushi rolls took 40 minutes to arrive (granted, there was some tempura involved, so I guess they had to fire up the frying pan). The food was ok, but uninspiring. Overall, I was expecting much better.

We live in Roslyn and have dined at and taken out from Kotobuki probably 40-50 times since they opened this location. The sushi is outstanding. My favorite is the sashimi salad, which is listed as an appetizer, but which I enjoy as an entree. It comes with the freshest salmon, yellowtail, and tuna (I omit the eel, shrimp and onion), served on top of crunchy lettuce and alongside seaweed salad, asparagus and a spicy dipping sauce. The rolls are terrific and inventive. My husband always enjoys the spicy tuna and spider rolls. The cooked foods are also very good - the age dashi tofu is one of our favorite appetizers as is the edamame. Everyone I know who eats here loves it. The take-out is also great, which is sometimes hard to do with the cooked foods, but not for them. It's very popular, and as my husband says, is a bit of "a scene". This is the only negative. Personally, I think the wait is worth it. The servers are experienced and move quickly. The tables are closely spaced and it's noisy, but you don't come here for the atmosphere.
