I got married in Roxbury last weekend and stayed in Amadeus' Bride. The suite was gorgeous and perfect for me and my bridesmaids to stay in and get ready on the day of the wedding. A lot of guests stayed at the motel as well and it was fun to see all the rooms where they were staying. All the rooms have so much detail and I can't wait to come back and stay in each room.

Greg and Joe and everyone who works at The Roxbury are fantastic. We've come up a few times while planning and they've always been friendly and we've never had a bad stay. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Each room is different--definitely take time looking at all the pictures before deciding which one i...

We loved our stay at the Roxbury. We stayed in the Jetsons-themed room (the light-up, futuristic bathtub was definitely the most fun feature). The room was clean, comfortable, and cleverly designed. Lots of care and thought have been put into all the rooms here-- we took a tour when we were checking out, which I highly recommend. The Digs was our favorite, a house with an Indiana Jones/archeological dig theme... We can't wait to get a group of friends together and rent that one out.

The spa is simple, no frills, but a great way to relax. The grounds are great, really fun for wandering around and sunbathing. Again, just so much care has been put into the design here-- even the lawn furniture is fun. And there are lots of little efforts made to make you feel at home; the breakfast is nice, little snacks & coffee/tea are left out all day, and there are tons of board games to play.

The young guy working at the front desk was really friendly & helpful -- he recommended places to eat in the area, told us we could tour the other rooms in the motel if we liked, and gave me a great walking route when I wanted to get out for some exercise. The woman who was at the desk the day we checked out was not as helpful or friendly, unfortunately. That was the only less-than-excellent experience we had during our stay. She kind of gave us an attitude about wanting to tour the rest of the hotel which we'd already been told wouldn't be a problem. Our tour guide (part of the housekeeping/maintenance staff) was so sweet, and obviously didn't mind showing us around, so I'm not sure what the front desk woman's problem was.

It's a great little motel, in a great little town!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review! And thank you for noticing the effort we put into making our guests’ stay as perfect as it can possibly be. We are constantly striving to improve, so that is why these reviews are so helpful. And that is also why it pains us a great deal to hear that you felt that one of our employees gave you attitude during your stay. This should never happen at The Roxbury. If I may, I would like to point out that sometimes giving a tour of rooms is more difficult than it seems from the outside. If we are short-staffed on a given day and/or there are urgent cleans to prepare before a check-in or a host of other behind-the-scenes issues, finding a staff member to give a tour is sometimes difficult. More than likely, what you experienced was our front desk hesitating for a moment on how to coordinate a tour at that particular moment. Having said that however, there should NEVER be an instance where a guest feels that an employee is giving attitude, so I will certainly look into this. And we do indeed always tell people that they can get a tour during their stay, so I can understand your confusion when your request was treated with less than an immediate fulfillment. I am, however, happy to see that you got the tour and that the tour was enjoyable. Thanks again for your review and we hope to see you again at The Roxbury!

I've seen other hotels that have theme rooms and an overall vibe that is geered toward funky travel experiences and I've always thought that it was a good idea but frayed around the edges. The rooms were always a little worn, the extras in the rooms were kind of yucky and I didn't want to touch them, and the bedding was not the greatest. In other words, comforts were set aside in order to maintain the theme. Such is not the case with this little charmer.

We stayed in the GoLightly room which is a studio suite. It was lovely. The room was really clean. There was carpet in the room and it was cushy and soft and I didn't mind walking on it with bare feet one bit. The bathtub was a deep soaking tub and the shower curtain seemed brand new. I would like to think that this hotel has its eye on the rooms to make sure everything stays tip-top and not that it's just new and therefore still nice.

The lobby has a great continental breakfast and cookies throughout the day. The spa seemed nice although we didn't get to use it. The bedding was wonderful and the towels were nice and soft and fluffy. The bath products were awesome. Nice touch for a low to midrange cost.

I just loved this place. The only down side is that you can hear everything going on outside of your room so it is important for guests to respect one another. We were lucky enough to have guests that quieted down when we wanted to sleep.

I can't wait to stay here again. If you are traveling to the catskills for some outdoor fun, stay here. You'll love it.

Room Tip: Splurge on a larger room if you are in town for longer than a weekend. The studios are a bit small.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review! And bless you for some of the things that you noticed! To say that we keep our eyes on the rooms to keep everything in good shape is one of the nicest things that you could say. It is a daily, if not hourly, commitment and a never-ending process. The room that you are in does indeed have brand new carpet, a new headboard, and the list goes on and on. And our bath towels, bathroom amenities, breakfast, daily snacks, spas, wireless, wine, and other amenities are a huge expense for us vis-a-vis our rates which we try to keep affordable. They are similar products that one would fine in hotels at 3-4 times our price point. So thank you so much for noticing that!

Regarding your comment about hearing things outside of your room, we would like to inform readers that BETWEEN rooms we invested large amounts in soundproofing. We built the building where you stayed in 2007 and we researched many methods for soundproofing and decided upon a vinyl sheeting substance that is the same kind of barrier that the CIA uses for its soundproofing chambers. And while there is no such thing as complete soundproofing unless you have concrete walls and floors and ceilings (and even then sound finds a way to travel), we mitigated sounds between rooms at a rate of 80% more than what we were required to do by code. We hired a soundproofing company for the installation and they performed the tests on the rooms. My motto to them during construction was, “there is nothing less romantic than hearing someone else’s romance, so I don’t want to hear anything between rooms…”

Regarding what is going on OUTSIDE your room (as per your comment), thank you for mentioning that guests respect one another. All of our rooms have exterior access doors (like a motel) and when people are walking around outside or up and down the corridor outside the room, we unfortunately have no control over their noise level. In addition, you chose one of our studio theme rooms which have two, not just one, exterior access doors – a door that opens out onto the parking lot and a door that opens out onto the back gardens. We did this as an extra perk for guests to have access and views to the back gardens. However, sound will find its way through the small cracks in doors in much the same way that you can hear people in the hallway of hotels with interior access corridors – even at five star hotels. I’m not sure what you were hearing outside your room, but your comment said that you could hear “everything.” We have never heard this before, so I’m guessing that there was a group of people – or even two people – who were talking right outside of your door or perhaps congregating along the corridor. If you were with us last weekend, that is exactly what was happening with a group that chose to congregate outside their three rooms instead of going out into the gardens or onto the deck. If you plan to stay with us in the future, and we hope you do, please do not hesitate to let us know about guest noise level. We will do our best to mitigate the issue! And thanks again for choosing The Roxbury and your very sweet and kind words.

Calling this place quaint would be an immense understatement. From the outside this rather small and unassuming hotel appears to be akin to any other small town quiet hotel. The green stripe paint on the outside should have been a sign of the awesome fun hidden within each magical room of this hotel. Each hotel room (albeit small, unless you are staying in the larger suites) has its own theme- not just that, each room is extremely committed to its theme- from the glowing red tub in the spaceship room to the dinosaur egg goblets in the dinosaur caves. In addition, the property is beautiful, the staff is extremely friendly, and the continental breakfast spread is varied, impressive, luxurious, and most importantly of all, delicious. It is obvious that the owners of this hotel paid attention to every detail when creating this place and did a masterful job of bringing their vision to life in a classy way that accommodates the every need of their guests. Simple marvelous.

My partner surprised me with a reservation at this hotel (surprise was March - our anniversary - and reservation was this week, June). We have lived in upstate NY for 20 years but were always drawn to the Adirondacks and Green Mountains. The Catskills were -- a place I drove our kids to camp and camping for. So this was a great surprise.
The Roxbury's website is promising. It doesn't promise too much, however - you will be surprised and pleased when you arrive to find that it's even cooler than you thought!
We had the Wizard of Oz suite. We're not crazy - weird that way, but I have to say this suite charmed my English-major premises. We only ran out of discoveries, after two days, as we were checking out ("the crow! it was attacking the scarecrow!")
Anyway.
This little gem is hard to describe, but easy to appreciate. One of the hosts suggested a hike up around a local golf course that was not only challenging (well, sort of) but also beautiful (wildflowers!)
Roxbury itself is a tiny place, but we found four different venues for great breakfasts and dinners.
The Roxbury hotel is, in sum, a very special place. We will be coming back to it. (We're Lake Placid/Stowe people, in case anyone is looking for a reference point.) It is a beautiful venue, with fine hosts and a welcoming community.

Room Tip: Check the very helpful website. Rooms vary a great deal, in many cool ways. Pick your best!

We stayed here whilst attending a wedding in Roxbury. The motel is unique and quirky. Every room is different and a total surprise. There is a welcoming patio/deck for hanging out and eating breakfast, along with a verdant, inviting garden area .The facility is beautifully landscaped. The motel is within easy walking distance to the "center" of Roxbury so there's easy access to restaurants. The area is simply beautiful.
The motel provided a varied buffet breakfast with excellent coffee, fresh fruit, cereals, breads and meat and cheese options. The staff and owners are warm and friendly and the facility is spotlessly clean. The soaps and shampoo etc. are first rate. An excellent choice in the area.

Room Tip: We were in room 6, one of the smaller rooms. It was quite dark and the bathroom could have used a fe...

This is the second year in a row we have gone back to the Roxbury since we have discovered it. We went for a combination Fathers Day and my fiancée's Birthday. What can I say but it gets better every time. The Staff is great, Joe and Greg are amazing. We are treated like royalty every time. This time we were upgraded to the Wizards emerald room. It was great. the details were fantastic. On the last day the Lynda had Jessica come down and take our picture in our room and she also showed us a couple of the 2 floor rooms we didn't get to see last year, cant wait to come back next year. Maybe even sooner

Room Tip: they are all great
