“Lost its mojo...eat somewhere else in Rye or for sushi”
Reviewed 27 June 2012

Visited this place which used to be a favorite a few years ago when was here regularly on business It has been remodeled, the menu has been changed, and the staff/cooks appear to have a shift in demographic. NONE of this was for the better.

The menu had been reduced to a few selections of run-of-the-mill selections, no specials and no creativity. The food quality itself was mediocre at best. The tuna was as pale as I have seen and very, very grainy. Dishes with assorted fish were disappointing - salmon, the aforementioned tuna, and the bland unidentifieable whitefish. The shredded white vegetable bedding was even reduced and supplemented with shredded carrots. Carrots? Really? And the don dish which used to have a very flavorful sushi rice accented with roe is now just bland rice. Wait staff was in a hurry to get us out as well, which was really curious as it was not crowded.

As one of the previous reviews pointed out, sushi joints that are not staffed by Japanese are suspect. This seems to have moved from Korean to Chinese staff, which usually is accompanied by diminished quality of ingredients. None of my experience would do anything but confirm this.

This restaurant will not be able to support its location with this type of experience, and I do not intend to ever return.

“You can keep it...”
Reviewed 26 May 2012

We dined at Koo hoping for some quality Japanese food (my favorite cuisine). We were highly disappointed with what we got. Our appetizers were just ok. They lacked flavor and one was way to salty. The sushi wasn't bad but come on...$40 for a california roll and 4 pieces of sushi...give me a break. There is much better sushi in the area for much lower prices (Toyo in Mamaroneck is a solid, inexpensive meal). Our cooked dishes were also disappointing. They lacked any savory flavor. I agree with the other reviewers: the staff are kind and attentive. The chef, on the other hand, is lacking.

There is better sushi in the area. It's just, well, nothing.
