“In the Heart of Sackets Harbor”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

Convenient location is the key here! Ontario Place is within easy walking distance of everything in Sackets Harbor. Desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. Rooms were adequate and clean. Bed was comfortable. Although close to the harbor, we did not have a view. Not sure if any rooms do, since most seemed to face the parking lots. Continental breakfast was limited, but fresh fruit was available each morning. They have a small gift shop in the lobby. We did not encounter any problems, and I would stay there again.

As mentioned by others, the location is great. Sackets Harbor is a cute little town and you can walk to everything from this hotel. We stayed in the annex, so I don't know if rooms in the main hotel were better. Our room had stained carpet that looked old. We were given one small bar of soap for the bathroom--there was a soap dispenser in the shower, but it was empty. During our 3-day stay, the hot and cold cups in our room were never replenished, nor were the condiments for coffee/tea. To reach our room we had to climb up a steep staircase (19 stairs) as there was no elevator. The mattress on the bed felt old and was not comfortable. The "continental breakfast" was meager at best. Given the excellent location, I would have overlooked some of this if the per night rate had not been $175 plus tax. This rate was excessive for the quality. Unfortunately, this is the only real hotel in town--I think some competition might motivate them to make needed improvements and to provide better daily service.

Room Tip: Apparently there are many different types of rooms, so it would be good to call and talk to someone...

The jacuzzi suites above the restaurant are not owned by the hotel, we manage them... I have forwarded your comments regarding the condition of the rug to the owner of the building, thank you. As to the soap dispenser and coffee cups, I have spoken to the head house keeper and she has taken steps to make sure this never happens again to anyone in the Annex rooms. I am sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for letting me know about your experience. Next time (I hope there is a next time) please call the front desk as we have someone on the desk 24hrs a day and we will do our best to make corrections to any housekeeping oversight.

It is absolutely worth the extra price for a room with a view. We started out in a ground floor room by the stairwell (and sound does carry in these older buildings) but quickly decided to upgrade to the top floor, with one window facing the harbor and another facing downtown (both of which are accessible on the same block as the hotel). Although I was not impressed with my first choice, I was thrilled with the two great views, whirlpool, semi-private kitchenette area, etc.

The hotel is a few short steps away from everything. The rooms are clean and well-sized, with a friendly staff to help meet your needs. A few tips:

Make sure to mention if you have small children when booking; some rooms do not have tubs. We forgot to mention it, but the clerk was quick to change our room when she saw our children during check in.

There is no elevator, so you need to book on the second floor if you'd like to avoid stairs. There is an entrance at the top of the hill that leads right into guest check in, which is also on the second floor.

We had a room on the harbor side, not facing the main street. It was very quiet, even with the window open. Since there is an outdoor bar/restaurant in the same parking lot, the site facing main street might be noisy at night.

Sackets Harbor is an attractive village on the banks of Lake Ontario, and this comfortable and welcoming hotel makes it easy to enjoy the scenery and the shops and restaurants. The staff are very helpful, even offering to print out a document for me for a very minimal price. We will be back.

My wife and I were guests at the hotel for two months, and we were treated and respected as royalty. The corner room, with a kitchen, overlooking Lake Ontario and Navy Point Marina was beautiful. The Historic Village of Sackets Harbor is worth the trip alone, but the very best part of the entire experience was the Owner, David Maxon, and staff. The dedicated team went the second mile to make this trip unforgettable for us. Thank you, our new friends, for all you did to make Ontario Place Hotel our home away from home. You are the best ever.

We came to share Thanksgiving with our son, a Capt with the 10th Mt.Division The weather was in the 20's and we hadn't stayed in Sackets before. The hotel was such a warm, restful part of our visit, the staff was very accommodating, the room and bed comfortable....we felt blessed to have such a cozy place so close to the great restaurants in town, we could walk to everything. Sackets is such a beautiful little town full of history,Ontario Place has history books and maps in the lobby, great coffee and nibblies. Its the perfect launch site for a wonderful visit. Thank you! We will surely be back.

Room Tip: We stayed in 209, facing the harbor. the bathroom was accessible for a wheelchair, and it was perfec...
