“A Restorative Getaway”
Reviewed 1 October 2013

My husband and I live in NYC and recently stayed at the Harborwoods Guesthouse for a kid-free weekend getaway. We would highly recommend it to other adults looking for a quiet, low-key, relaxing and not-ridiculously-expensive place to escape to in the Hamptons.

Pros -
1) Hosts were lovely and had the right balance of involvement while still leaving us to be (we have stayed in places before where we found ourselves avoiding a seemingly lonely and needy owner who could have chatted forever)
2) The inn is tremendously bright, clean and pleasant
3) The back garden/patio (and their music) create a wonderful environment for a relaxing breakfast
4) Breakfast was delicious
5) Hosts made great restaurant and other activity recos for us - great food, good value, lovely local and non-touristy vibe
6) This is a great value for the location. The Hamptons can be absurdly expensive and most other similarly reviewed B&B's in the area were running up to twice the price per night as this place....definitely worth it if you are looking for a great place without paying the price of a high end Parisian hotel (I would have gone to Paris if I wanted to spend like that on this vacation!)

"Cons" (and I really don't see these as cons...really just more "non-strengths" ;P) -
1) If you are looking for proactive, highly attentive services and amenities, you may be disappointed. The hosts are lovely, warm and very accommodating but definitely more on the "leave you to your own" side of things vs going far out of their way to proactively accommodate your every need
2) As is the case with most B&B's, you can hear a lot from your room. I am not sensitive to noise and wasn't bothered, but I was definitely conscious not to speak too loudly in the morning or have conversations in the hallway, as I myself heard some distant coughing and sneezing from my room. The good thing is, without TVs it is a very zen atmosphere and we really enjoyed the peace and quiet of that type of

My wife and I enjoyed our two night stay in the cottage that was perfect. The property is in a great location in Sag Harbor and is lovely. Breakfast was excellant and Barbro, the propriteor was very friendly, helpful with suggestions and ideas and seems to be known by all in the area. We hope to retrun soon and highly recomend the Harborwoods Guesthouse. Tom McDonough

We were in the area for a wedding and the bride's family booked Harborwoods for family members. It was cozy and comfortable and Barbro and Dean made you feel like family. It was a delight hearing the wind in the leaves of the forest like area adjacent to the property. We would definitely recommend this to anyone for a great place to linger in the Hamptons.

Harborwoods Guesthouse was a delight! The rooms were lovelier than the photographs. The rooms were very neat and very clean. The Cottage was spacious and comfortable, with a large bathroom. A refrigerator, coffeemaker (including coffee, decaf, filters), wine opener, a pitcher of filtered water,as well as all other essentials were provided. Our warm, welcoming, yet unobtrusive hosts provided a wonderful breakfast each morning, and were happy to help with any request. The common areas (both indoor and outdoor) were attractive and invited relaxation. The Guesthouse is conveniently located to Sag Harbor, Bridgehampton, and everything nearby. We enjoyed our stay very much!

Room Tip: The cottage and studio "cottages" are fantastic!

Harborwoods is perhaps the most perfect blend of accessible privacy that you could find in Sag Harbor. We booked the King Studio and could not have been more pleased with the spaciousness of this retreat house. The space is large enough for a family and/or a couple with the lower level sitting room with a pull out couch and a kitchenette. There is a separate dressing area with the King bed in the loft which overlooks the lower level. The main house is very welcoming and comfortable. Breakfast is great and served on the outdoor porch overlooking a lovely serene English garden. Getting to the beach as well as around the Hamptons is easy. You cannot ask for a more perfect getaway.

What an amazing find for anyone who wants to visit Sag Harbour or the Hamptons at a reasonable value in a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Owner Barbro Magnusson serves genuine hospitality and delicious breakfasts in her open, homey dining room or on the backporch overlooking her gorgeous garden. Barbro pays attention to every detail. The rooms are gorgeous and clean, beachtowels/chairs/parking passes are provided, and Barbro will answer just about any question with regards to where to eat and hang out. She even knew to offer a family size room so we could all be together. Our family vacation in the Hamptons was complicated by a terrible transportation breakdown, but Barbro's calming personality and the tranquility of her beautiful B/B quickly helped us forget our travel woes. We will definitely book again and recommend to friends. The Swedish pancakes we ate on our last morning before checking out were the icing on the cake!

My family of four stayed in the Studio at Harborwoods recently, and we all enjoyed our stay. The Studio is spacious with a roomy loft bedroom and a King bed, and a downstairs kitchenette, dining area and living that easily accomodated a pull-out twin and a travel crib for my 2 year old. Barbro's breakfasts in the morning are delicious, and she could not have been more hospitable and accomodating. the whole vibe is very relaxed, welcoming and homey. Decor is a cross between country, beachy and Scandanavian minimalism. We used their beach pass, chairs, towels and umbrella, so they make very easy for you to have a beach visit with no hassle. the location is within walking distance to Sag Harbor village, and easy driving distance to Bridgehampton and Sag Main beach. Overall, a really great stay, and we would highly recommend.
