the town is not big, but has a spirit. Very scienic, you will enjoy a little walk, and you will find nice place to eat.

But the town is very quaint with some nice shops and a wonderful organic market. I enjoyed shopping for antiques and looking at the old architechture.

My family is from nearby Tupper Lake but I had never explored Saranac Lake until recently! It's such a cute little town - so many neat shops and restaurants. There's a beautiful lake you drive by called Lake Flower and in the winter - the Ice Carnival is amazing. We were there in the summer. If you have kids, or just appreciate the Adirondacks and/or art, check out the Adriondack Carousel in Saranac - each animal is carved from wood and hand painted, and the animals are all native to the Adirondacks - bears, fish, otters, deer, etc. Also, the Adirondack Scenic Railroad station is near to the carousel which is a fun afternoon - they have lots of themed train rides to Lake Place (another really awesome place). Also, for anyone who likes aviation, there is a teeny little airport near Saranac in Lake Clear that serves one airline (Cape Air) but also all the private planes fly in there that the rich people use that have "camps" up there (such as Steven Spielberg and Bruce Springsteed) - the airport is smaller than most people's houses and has a teeny tiny TSA screening thing and a teeny tiny waiting area...it's just so cute to see. Anyway, if you have time to check out Saranac, even for a few hours, you won't be disappointed. Literary fans might be interested to know it was the home of G. Doonesbery and Robert Louis Stephenson.

It never ever gets old enjoying Saranac Lake. If you love the water, Saranac lake will not disappoint. The town is also incredibly friendly and teh Sarance Lake Winter Carnival every February is not to be missed! I've been back every year for the last 6 years and 4 times before that.
