Young couple here- took a shot in the dark choosing Fogarty's B&B for our short stop through Adirondacks and we were very pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and fantastic service at Jack and Emily's. We felt at home immediately. Jack had great suggestions for day trips and dining, room was clean and quiet, and breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed excellent conversation before departing this gorgeous Craftsman-style home.
Heads up: this is their home, 2nd floor has shared bathrooms, and the stairs aren't so treacherous- stop and admire the irises!

LOTS of steps to get to the home from road below, but once you've made it, it's worthwhile. Warm hosts, good breakfast. Lots of charm in the 1910 cure cottage. There are three floors (more steps) but we only took in one overnight case to cut down on hauling heavy luggage upstairs. We only stayed one night since we were just traveling through the area from Niagara Falls, Canada to Boston area. Don't really like sharing a bathroom, but it wasn't a huge problem. Interesting family photos all over the house, but especially up the stairway. Our friends slept in a 3rd floor bedroom & the slats fell causing their bed to crash to the floor, but other than that, they had a good time. They tell us the view of Lake Flower is awesome, but we were there on a rainy day, & it was too foggy to see much of anything. Jack is friendly and interesting.

Room Tip: Would recommend 2nd floor over the top floor.

The home is quite nice but be sure that you can climb the steps to the house and just carry what you need.as you leave your car on the street.. Jack the owner was a very nice, friendly man. His wife , however , hardly spoke to us when we arrived and didn't even greet us at any time when we were there.-(not even at breakfast) I was o.k. with it but the upstairs needed a good cleaning and the hall was cluttered. with old worn chair. cobwebs, etc. and especially the bathroom toilet - it was bad etc.so for that reason I only give it 2 stars. I don't mind old but I really dislike dirty.

This is our 14th year at Jack and Emily Fogarty's historic home. The house feels like home because of them. Beautiful views of Lake Flower and the mountains surrounding Saranac Lake village.

Peace and tranquility guaranteed.

Walk to bars and restaurants. Canoeing, kayaking and hiking easily accessible.

Formerly a tuberculosis "cure cottage."
Breathe the fresh air that put this town on the map.

We look forward to our 15th visit.

My husband and I spent one night on July 4th at Jack and Emily's place. Everyhing was great: the location : 5 minute walk from downtown Saranac Lake, and yet quiet and isolated from the noise and incomfort of the city. A beautiful view over Lake flower. A nicely decorated house with lots of photographs that make you imagine who the people who live here are: maybe former ski champions? We loved the early 20th century style bathrooms! Jack and Emily presence is all around but yet they do not impose themselves upon their guests. In the morning when we finally found out who Jack was, we discovered a gentlemen who made us "at home" and prepared one of the best break fast ever! Thanks again!

We stayed in the Blue Room last night. It's a beautiful big house originally used for tuberculosis patients (as are many of the houses in Saranac Lake). Loads of wood trimming and paneling and lots of neat things to look at.

Be warned that there are 73 steps to reach the house. The main floor has a large living room and dining room (common areas). The second floor has 3 bedrooms and 2 shared bathrooms. The top floor has 2 bedrooms and 1 shared bathroom. The rooms are simple and spacious enough. We found our bed to be a bit too soft for us, as we prefer hard mattresses. The rooms are simply decorated, which I appreciate, as I cannot stomach B&B's that are overdecorated with flowers on the wallpaper, bedspreads, tons of tacky trinkets. If you are a light sleeper, then I recommend earplugs, as old houses can be creaky and the grandfather clock in the dining room chimes every hour. I used earplugs and didn't hear a thing. There is also a pool table room, and loads of books, magazines, puzzles, games and a piano.

The owner, Jack, is very personable. For breakfast he offers eggs, toast, pancakes, waffles, bacon and will cook you what you want. Cereal is also provided, as well as coffee, tea and OJ. No need to go hungry.

Fogarty's B&B is the home of Jack and Emily Fogarty on the shores of Saranac Lake, a 15-minute drive from Lake Placid in the Adirondacks. Their home is historic, with beautiful period touches like a partially enclosed wrap-around porch, wood beams, and family photos and hunting trophies. The location is ideal; Saranac Village is an easy 5-minute walk away and is quieter and more peaceful than Lake Placid, which is still only a short car ride away. Moreover, the house is perched atop a hill above the road, which affords it more privacy and great views, and the Fogartys have their own dock directly across the road by the lake. By far the greatest strength of the B&B is Jack and Emily themselves -- they treat you as if you were members of their own family. They are a wonderful source of recommendations for hiking, biking, canoeing, and other activities in the area, and they go out of their way to make you feel at home.

As a note to travelers, the B&B has a very communal feel, with guests sharing the table at breakfast and running into each other around the house during their stay. Guests should be prepared to socialize with the Fogartys and the other guests; there is less of a sense of privacy in the house than at some other B&Bs. Overall, we would highly recommend Fogarty's B&B!

Room Tip: The Navy Blue room has a small enclosed porch off to one side with an extra bed for use in the summe...
