“Nice Wedding/Reception and weekend at Longfellows”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2010

We were at Longfellows for 3 nights for a wedding and reception. From what we could tell the wedding planning was excellent and the reception was even better. The indoor courtyard used for reception is great. It is almost like being outside... but in perfect weather. There is a roof ... so no worry about rain. Many of the people I talked to actually thought we were in a beautiful outdoor courtyard before noticing the roof. Longfellows seemed excellent for the wedding, reception, and reception dinner. Food and drinks we very good and service was excellent. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.
The only warnings I would offer about Longfellows would be not to book a King Loft if you need your room to be dark to sleep in the morning. In what I consider a poor design decision there is a skylight over the bed in the King Loft rooms. It looks great at check-in, and you won't even notice it when you go to sleep. However, when the sun comes up... you need to able able to sleep in bright sunlight or hope for clouds. If I could have reached it I would have tried to cover it in some way, but it was just too high. If it were up to me I would have put the skylight over the sofa area and the ceiling fan over the bed, but they did it the opposite way. The loft also means having to go down the stairs to use the bathroom if you happen to get up during the night. If you can sleep through the bright daylight in your face, or if you are happy to get up very early this will be no problem for you.
We would stay at Longfellows again if we needed lodging in Saratoga, but would just book a room without a skylight. We do recommend it, especially for a wedding reception or as a nice place to stay near Saratoga's quaint downtown experience.

This is a new one for me. After check in I noticed the shiny "SYSCO Food" refrigerated semi-trailer just outside the window of my room, taking up spots in the guest parking lot. No cab, just the trailer with a large gas powered refrigeration unit on the front of it, cycling on an off every few minutes and quite audible in my room. I returned to the desk, checked on the trailer ("we leave it there permanently to store the food for the inn and our events") and asked for another room. No luck - sold out. So beware if you stay there - be sure to ask for rooms on the back part of the hotel. But based on the uncaring attitude of the staff at Longfellows, you would much better staying elsewhere, unless you happen to be in town for the Saratoga Regatta (which is very close).

Please allow us to start with a sincere apology concerning the inconvenience the "Sysco" truck caused you during your recent stay. We strive to see all our guests enjoy their stay and would never knowingly jeopardize a guest's happiness while staying at Longfellows. We're sorry too that you were given the impression the truck was permanent to our property...The Sysco refrigerator truck was brought in just for that weekend you were here, and left a day after you departed. We'd like to also extend our Thanks! For the once or maybe twice a year that we need that much more food to keep our guests served and satisfied, we've learned that storage will always have to be arranged off property so we can provide the relaxing atmosphere we've promised to all our guests!
From our entire staff, again, our sincere apology.

We had the loft room it was very clean. The bathroom was very clean and the tub was large. The ladies at the front desk were very nice. Dinner was excellent. The waiter we had was awesome. It's best to order the appetiers to your room upon arrival instead of having it at dinner. That is what we did and it worked out great. Ordering your dessert to your room i would not advise that. Reason being is that they forgot our dessert and wine to our room. When we called they were clueless about it. Sleeping at night it was peaceful.

Just perfect, stayed in a deluxe king suite, and it couldn't have been better, the room was clean and everything was fresh! the tub was large and very nice. We even got a gift card for the restaurant... which was out of this world good!

Overall Longfellows gave us a perfect weekend gettaway!

Thank you so much, you made a customer for life!

We stayed here after spending one night at the Comfort Inn and Suites, which I would probably say was a little bit better, one exit up the road on the Northway (Route 87). The room was clean and nice, but pretty unremarkable. Some of the furniture was surprisingly worn, but not that big a deal. For those who care, the television was smallish and in a cabinet rather than, for example, wall mounted. We barely had it on, but I remember the reception was a little snowy. None of this was really a big deal, obviously, but these little things didn’t compare favorably with our cheaper stay at the Comfort Inn. Likewise, there is barely a lobby, and the breakfast--yogurt, pastries, fruit,--wasn’t quite as good either. Also, the internet is hardwired rather than wireless.

Another problem: It was November and pretty chilly outside, but in the hotel, particularly in the hallway, it was uncomfortably HOT. And in the rooms, even though we turned the unit off, it still put out heat. Our extended family occupied several rooms and this was a problem in all the rooms. We ended up putting the air conditioning on all night, which seemed absurd. Others had their windows open.

How about some positives? Okay, the bathroom is really big and nice (although the lack of counter space presented problems). Best of all, there was a spacious whirlpool tub in the bathroom that was separate from the shower. This earned the hotel an extra star from me because I love baths. The room was very clean. The hotel is in a nice rural setting and there are short trails in the woods leading to a lake. The staff were excellent and professional and really seemed to go out of their way to treat you right.

I don’t mean to sound too negative! It was very nice and that’s why I gave it four stars (more like three and a half). But you may want to consider the cheaper Comfort Inn instead, unless you really want the whirlpool tub and rural setting.

We booked a night at Longfellows Inn for the night after our wedding, as a quiet "getaway" after all the planning and excitement of our wedding weekend. We took advantage of their $198 "Romance Package" (and later upgraded it to the "Spa Package" to take advantage of the massage service they offered onsite). I knew it was a bargain when I booked it... I had no idea how wonderful it would be.... FAR better than the "bargain price" I paid!
The "King Loft" room was simple but elegant. Snuggling with my new spouse in the
"loft" was the perfect treat! We were treated to champagne, and then a delicious four-course meal at the restaurant.... WOW!
The service was pleasant and efficient... the staff at the front desk do a good job of taking care of your needs. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a bit of a luxurious getaway... romantic or otherwise!

My wife and I stayed for 1 night on August 5th on a short trip to the Saratoga Springs horse races. Room was clean and staff was very helpful. 24 hr coffee was provided in a room off the main lobby. A very good complimentary breakfast buffet was provided in the restaurant building - worth at least a $15 value per person.. All hotels seem to be pricey during the July - Sept Saratoga horse racing season, but we found Longfellows more reasonable if your goal is to enjoy the area from a quiet location and yet be a few minute drive from the track and downtown Saratoga. We would go there again.
