“The best sports bar in Saratoga”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

If you need to watch any sports in Saratoga Springs and have a beer and a burger while doing so you can't go wrong by going to the Westside.

The service is first rate and the fries and onion rings are dynamite.

The menu has changed recently and if you like crab cakes you are going to be a happy camper.

If Kate is tending bar you'll be well taken care of.

“Pleasant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2014

Wife and I stopped in at the West Side Stadium during Chowderfest this year, and promised ourselves that we would be going back. The chowder was not that special, but what attracted us was the enormous windows and the prospect that this could be a very bright, cheerful place to eat, especially during the daytime.

So we went back (at night - of course). The restaurant has a large parking lot, but it was full even though the restaurant had tables available. We have had lots of snow this winter, so the size of the parking lot was compressed by mountains of snow. That happens in the Northeast.

We were taken to a table along the back wall of the restaurant, under the projection TV screen. That raises the first point - the West Side Stadium is a 'sports bar' which means that there are lots of TVs in the place - I counted at least 12 screens in the main dining room - and all tuned to some kind of sporting event. Fortunately, the sound was off so we didn't have to endure the racket. But that's the kind of place that it is - so if you are looking for sophistication or romantic, look elsewhere.

The dining room is spacious, and while it has lots of tables, it doesn't feel crowded. And even less so at the back where we were seated. And because there is a brightly-lighted alcove at the back leading to the restrooms, our table had plenty of light for reading the menu, something that is not always true; restaurant designers sometimes get carried away with 'atmosphere' to the point where the waitresses have to provide diners with flashlights!

Unfortunately, the bad news was that there is a back door, and each time that door oped to allow someone in or out of the restaurant, we got a blast of cold air.

Wife opted for the chicken and goat cheese salad. She reported that it was very tasty, and extremely generous - she ended up taking some home. The negative was that the plate was too small for the size of the salad, making it difficult to manage without spilling food on the table.

I chose the daily special, hanger steak with a corn casserole and baked potato. The steak was properly done and tasted fine. I especially enjoyed the corn casserole. The one disappointment was the baked potato. OK, I know I'm strange, but I don't like sour cream on my baked potato, and I wasn't given a choice - sour cream, bacon and chopped green onion. It looked nice, but I ended up asking the waitress to take it away and bring a replacement. She did - without any toppings at all. That was fine - in fact, the baked potato was actually quite good - truly baked, and not merely steamed in aluminum foil, with a nice crunchy skin.

Price was reasonable, service very good. Just have to remember to ask for no toppings on the baked potato when we go back.

“Prob one and only time ”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2013 via mobile

We came in a little before one for lunch. 4 of us. Ordered two wraps. A burger and a ruben. It took forever for our food. The table next to us got 1/2 their food. Then waited 15 min for the other half. Our food took about 45 min. And we barely saw the waitress till it came out. The food was ok, nothing special. The wraps were nice sized though. Check came quick We were up visiting friends who suggested it but not sure if we will ever come back.

“Shocked!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2013

Well we have been to West Side Stadium many times before and decided to take our friend who was in from out of town there as well as celebrate another's birthday. We were seated at 7:15 on the new lovely deck but there was a problem, no lights! Our waitress came 20 minutes after we were seated took our drink order, gave us menus and disappeared. We needed to use our iphones to read the menu by this time! Finally a dink order! Drinks came out 15 minutes later and that was fine then she disappeared again. We finally ordered and the food came out around 9:15 cold & not what we ordered! My friend is allergic to shellfish and she was given a crab tortellini so she had no dinner! We were charged for drinks we didn't order and asked for help numerous times. Lost at least 16 people that night who walked out due to the service.

“Beer battered fries mmm”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2013 via mobile

I've been here on many occasions and their beer battered fries never let me down! On this particular occasion our waitress seemed a little off or something. She would ask the same question multiple times and would still bring the wrong thing, but was sweet the whole time. Our desserts were the worst. I got the chocolate lava cake which comes with a scoop of ice cream. Apparently no one has ordered anything with ice cream in a long time because it was just one big freezer burnt ice chunk of terrible.
