“There are so many great restaurants in Saratoga, yet 62 Beekman still brings something uniq”

There are so many great restaurants in Saratoga, yet 62 Beekman still brings something unique to the city!
I love their 'Pasta of the Sun' dish!! I've had it at least three times; it's one of my favorite dishes to go out to eat for -- it's unlike a regular pasta dish because it has pine nuts and goat cheese, with asparagus on the side. Yum!!

“Not sure what just happened...”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

We started off the meal with nice warm bread with a little bit of olives and olive oil (oil seemed cheap), followed by a bottle of Bogle Sav. Blanc. Server was very polite and mentioned that they'd only recently acquired their liquor license and were working on expanding their basic wine list. We selected one of the soup specials, potato and leek, and the crab cake. Both had nice flavor, although the soup was under-seasoned (and seemed more like a rustic homemade soup... lots of celery and carrots. Luckily there was salt on the table to remedy that. The crab cake was good and came with a small slaw and a thick emulsion on top, both of which were flavorful. Once entrée's arrived, things went downhill. The shrimp napoleon was not described well in the menu, and consisted of the following: Overcooked shrimp sitting on boursin with fried wontons underneath - I am not sure that stacking three things constitutes a "napoleon", but okay. Flavor was okay. The sides were a ring mold of smashed potatoes, possibly baked then mashed, which had a basil and oil drizzle which left a bitter aftertaste, and some seriously undercooked green beans. I'm all for al dente, but these were raw. My friend had pork medallions with no sear, also slightly overcooked, with the exact same sides. Since when does fine dining serve you the same sides? The entire plate should be balanced to itself. And then, the pièce-de-résistance! I asked which desserts were made there, and two of the cakes were not, so we thought, how could a chocolate mousse be bad! This had to be the worst chocolate mousse I have ever tasted. I took one bite and was done, and my friend ate it because he was still hungry. There was not enough sugar, a weird aftertaste, and was riddled with bitterness. There was an small dot of unsweetened cream on top (frankly, a big dollup of sweetened cream would have probably fixed the whole dish) and a single raspberry.

We are big fans of the restaurants in Saratoga, but feel that so many places rest on the laurels of being in a great city with a popular season. You have to make great food all year round to keep up business. We will try this restaurant again in hopes that we hit it on a bad night.

Perhaps it's time to hire a consultant?

“Atmosphere Better Than The Food”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

This is a charming restaurant on a lovely street in Saratoga Springs. The room is cozy with warm colors on the walls. It looks as if it was an older house and the owner has made good use of architectural elements to give the room a nice vibe. My niece had a fish dish which was dry. My sister had something called a shrimp Napolean. The shrimp were good but the dish included chèvre and hoisin. It just didn't work. On the upside, I had pork tenderloin which was very good. I think this place is still worth a try. Don't order apple pie. Stick with cakes.
