“Saratoga Downtowner Ideal”
Reviewed 21 June 2013

For a single occupancy, the Downtowner was ideally located. A short walk from Congress Park an easy driving distance of all the major attractions: Saratoga Battlefield, SPAC, Saratoga Racetrack and Saratoga Spas. Room Was clean and the service provided by the staff at the Downtowner was excellent. The only cons was lack of parking (if a late arrival), lack of a refridgerator (had meds to keep cool: used ice bucket) and the fixtures in the room (bathroom faucets, baseboard heat had an end coming off) was a little beat. Strictly cosmetic. Double bed for a single was clean and comfortable. Would recommend the downtowner to anyone.

Room Tip: I had a first floor room in the enclosed courtyard. The outside rooms might be a little noiser due t...

The location of this motel cannot be beat! We stayed in Saratoga last year for Girls Weekend, but spent a FORTUNE in cab fare. This year, we were a block away from Caroline Street and the nightlife. We sat on the balcony of the motel and watched the Flag Day Parade go down Broadway, went down to the Farmers Market and shopped downtown.. We never started our cars until we left! They were a little short-staffed, so our room wasn't cleaned until late, but they apologized and we were fine with it. The pool was a little low on water when I was in it, but it's so nice to have hydrotherapy after our nights at the bars. The staff were all very friendly & helpful. It was nice to have a little something for breakfast before starting our day. We would definitely go back here!

Room Tip: We had the large room in the left corner of the pool, 111.

Green Features: I LOVE that they recycle! I brought my own bag to bring empties home, but noticed that the other people brought their cans & bottles out to the bins.

The Downtowner is just that - it is in the middle of Broadway in downtown Saratoga Springs. From this location one can walk to just about anything in town. The rooms are very clean. The bathrooms, furniture and furnishings are dated - but it is a motel not a fancy hotel.

The front desk personnel are very helpful and solicitous. There is a free breakfast - although not much of one - free WiFi which is excellent and available anywhere on the premises. The rooms are a good size but no one would say large.

Warning: request a room on the second floor facing Broadway. The first floor rooms facing away from Broadway are noisy and uninteresting. (My original room backed-up on a parking garage and people walking back and forth could be heard as if they were in the room. The early morning garbage truck sealed the deal for a room change.)

The curtains in the rooms are slightly misaligned and too small for the windows. Unless you are careful, you may find yourself exposed to the people walking by. My second floor room was much more private and although the problem with the curtains remained, the location of the room obviated much of the problem. Keeping the curtains closed blocks out all of the natural light so one tends not to stay in the room for other than sleeping and showering.

The swimming pool is very small and was unused while I observed. I would not want to have a room poolside if kids were on premises.

The AC works fine but as it is an individual in-wall unit it is relatively noisy.

The parking lot is relatively small for the number of rooms and I had to park in the municipal lot the first night but due to the convenience of the place once I got a spot in the motel lot, I did not move my car for the rest of my stay.

The Downtowner is a relative bargain price-wise - especially out of the August race track season - and I recommend it as a more moderate alternative to the sterile chain hotels.

I will stay at the Downtowner again but will be sure to request an upstairs front room even if it means giving up the King bed.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms facing Broadway are the best.

I have stayed at this hotel several times and each time has been very pleasant. It's very reasonably priced, the staff are extremely accommodating and nice, and it is located right in the heart of Saratoga Springs with its lovely restaurants and unique shops. The hotel parking lot is small but we were always able to find a space there for our two cars. The rooms are comfortable and the continental breakfasts were fine. The set-up is unusual and kind of cute. The pool is surrounded by rooms so you feel as if you're outside.

we found this hotel from the internet. Glad we did. The owner happened to be out planting flowers, in the pouring rain, and introduced herself to us, which I thought was great. Extremely outgoing and her staff was just as friendly. Rooms were very clean--and the location was perfect. I would without a doubt stay here again. Highly recommend the Saratoga Downtowner Motel.

Room Tip: choose a room on the side of the Main Street.

We were traveling to Saratoga to take care of business at the racetrack. We chose this hotel due to location & great off season rates. Front desk representative was very accommodating & friendly from the second we walked in. Check in was easy & we found the room was clean & met our basic needs for 2 night midweek stay.Inroom fridge was a nice touch.Indoor pool was not a draw for us, but it seemed to be well kept. Although the hotel seemed to have numerous guests, we did not have an issue with excessive noise. It was more like live and let live. I had no problem taking a nap in the afternoon after an early AM at the track. Some guests were workers from the construction site across the street & didn't spend much time at the hotel. Hotel management did have signs up about quiet time-they cannot be accountable for rude guests, they are everywhere you stay-it's part of travel life-but we experienced none here. The light breakfast was fresh and sufficient. Don't expect a 5star resort for this price and then you won't be disappointed. Our stay was very pleasant & we would stay there again.

Room Tip: choose a room with indoor access for better use of the facility
