“Elegant, Woodsy and”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

Over the years we've stayed in dozens of bed and breakfasts around the world - our accommodation of choice. Generally speaking you meet great people, learn about the secrets of the area from the owners and find a private and relaxing atmosphere. If this is the definition of bed and breakfast, Pine Grove Lodge exceeds it all.

Set on over 5 acres, Pine Grove Lodge offers serenity, scenery and seclusion. The October weather is warm during the day and crisp in the evening. It offers a pool and hot tub. It has three rooms. If you have a choice, ask for the suite ... large, has its own entrance, fireplace and more room for spreading out!

Mark is a delightful host. His breakfast is delicious and gets you off to a good start for your day. His suggestions for things to see and do never disappoint. The house itself in rustic, elegant and filled with art and artifacts that can rival a museum! Take some time to chat with Mark ... he's a great conversationalist and has a terrific sense of humour!

The local towns and villages offer lots to see and do from antiquing to hiking, gallery viewing to museums, historic homes to great dining. They offer something for everyone and the locals are genuinely warm and friendly!

We wanted a place to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and could not have found a more wonderful location. It's certainly a place to which we'll return.

Room Tip: Ask for the suite. All the rooms are great but we loved the suite.

We stayed with Mark for five nights. I have to say that I was a little worried at first about having to share a bathroom with other guests, but it turned out not to be a problem at all. Mark didn't have any other guests for four out of five of the nights we stayed. I don't think it would be a terrible problem even if he had other guests. There was another full bath available on the main floor of the house that guests could use if the other one was occupied. The setting was very serene and beautiful. We enjoyed the pool and the hot tub while there.

Mark gave good suggestions for places to see and things to do. He talked to us about what he did before he retired and was very interesting. At the same time, he didn't hang around when we wanted privacy either. Mark was a gracious host and was very accommodating. We would return to this B&B.

As a small side note, if you have cat allergies, you don't have to worry. The cat that the other reviewer mentioned is recently deceased :-(. So, it is a pet free environment.

Room Tip: I think all of the rooms looked equal. Two of the three had their own private entrance.

My partner and I looked around for a quick weekend getaway from the city in the Catskills area and stumbled upon this B&B. We didn't see any reviews on here but decided to try it out because the owner Mark sounded so friendly on the phone, and the place looked cozy on their website.

What a great hidden gem! We stayed two night and three days, and had the largest room to ourselves with a cute fireplace and the fluffiest sheets I've ever slept in. Mark and Marlon's house is filled with beautiful trinkets and old restored furniture, and we spent a long time admiring all his photos and wall decorations. We enjoyed the jacuzzi and petting his cute cat. His breakfasts were very tasty and he kept everything warm for us even though we kept sleeping in past breakfast time.

All in all an amazing experience. We're thinking of coming back again next year!
