We have been coming here for years and it keeps getting better. This campground is very well-maintained. The sites are spacious sites and separated by pines trees. They have bathrooms that are clean, individual showers for only 25 cents and a well-equipped campstore that has all sorts of stuff. And they now have a pool. A lot of people like to bike on the trails. We love to walk in the Plattekill Creek that runs through the campground. Really pretty and a great place to be on a hot day. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The campground is a half hour ride from North-South Lake if you want to go swimming or boating. The Kaaterskill Falls are closer and are a great hike (and swim at the end). The town of Saugerties is nearby with great restaurants, shops and a nice bakery. We look forward to camping here every summer.

This is a great camp ground. We stayed as a couple with a dog. The stream and swimming hole are clean and fresh. And the grounds were large and relaxing. Just a bit of a warning , the bathrooms are just glorified out houses. They may or may not have paper.

Room Tip: by the water...

I honestly cannot think of a single negative thing about our experience at Rip Van Winkle. We stayed for three days over Memorial weekend and it was pleasantly quiet. The bathrooms were modern and kept clean. Showers and laundry facilities were a pleasant surprise. The camp store is small, but anything you might have forgotten you will find there. Lost of people have permanent camps and they take a lot of pride in making there lots look beautiful. The staff patrols the grounds regularly and even bring an ice cream cart around several times a day. The pool is nice, but our girls loved splashing in the "swimming hole" best of all. Daily hayrides an other activities make this a great place for families and there are several playgrounds on site. Our camping "neighbors" were nice and we have even kept in touch on Facebook after our trip:) The staff was so friendly and helpful and I loved that it had been family run for generations. When we checked out we told the owners it was our daughter's first camping trip and she gave our daughter a postcard with a picture of the camp from the 1970's...it was so sweet! This was one trip we will never forget and we plan to make Rip Van Winkle a family tradition. Don't just take my word for it try the place yourself...you will not regret it!

Decided to try this campground for quick weekend getaway. We were able to get 2 sites together on last minute notice. The sites are VERY wooded but average sized. The roads are narrow but manageable. The kids loved the new heated pool as well as playing in the stream. They enjoyed finding frogs. The ice cream wagon and hay rides were great. We liked the old time feel of this place. Very rustic and felt like camping. It was only 2 miles off the highway. Would stay again.

Very rustic and quiet, and on a creek. But interior roads are very rough with many "potholes". Almost all of the gravel on the roads and on the campsites has disappeared over the years, leaving the place a muddy mess the days we were there (our stay happened to be during a wet spell). Exacerbating the problem is the fact that the tree cover is so thick that nothing can ever dry out. It seems that the campground had been maintained well at one time, but now it is need of some serious TLC. Navigating through the trees and low-lying limbs was a bit of a chore even in our small RV.
We were to spend a weekend here with my brother, but they wouldn't honor my brother's reservation, because they wanted to leave his site available in case the previous camper wanted to extend their stay (?!). My brother wound up staying at a B&B in town, but then they wouldn't let him and his wife visit us at our site unless they each paid a $10 visitor's fee! They explained that they instituted this policy because they were tired of people bringing their entire families with them to use their pool for free. I can understand their position on not wanting non-paying guests to use the pool, but I don't swim, so I shouldn't have to subsidize other campers who DO wish to use the pool. Why not institute a pool fee instead, to be fair to all?
Ridiculous rules - $10 per inch fine for using any standing dead wood?! Playgrounds are a joke, consisting of a few swings and some huge tires painted and sunk into the ground. Woman in office (owner?) not very pleasant. You have to pay for a shower. Internet available only near office. In essence, this campground is only marginally better than a state park, at double the cost. I guess we've been spoiled by the many great campgrounds available in other locales in the same $50 price range. We will not return.

Went for 3 days, it was fun, best thing about the site was the service. The store was resonable, they didnt try to rip you off with the price of wood (4 bundles for 20 bucks)or any othe needed item. Hay rides and Ice cream wagon where a nice touch. Camp ground was clean and noise level was good. If your a fishermen and are looking for great fishing its not the place to go. Pond in front was ok...small fish, catch and release, stream in rear have trout, didnt catch any. WIFI only works closer to the store area(if you have it why not expand it for entire campground)
POOL WAS GREAT...new, clean and very warm (85), I think its heated. Club house was horrible 1 pool table 4 arcade machines (only the motocycle one worked) and it was very cluttered in there. large screen tv was nice but couldnt change channel off of spanish soccer that was on. Showers are nice as well...If your gonna use a tent you need the hard 3-4 inch spikes, regular tent spikes will bend in the ground. The gound is hard (pressed rock/dirt) and tough for tents to hammer down.
Fix up the Club House, debug/spider the common areas..I know spiders are expected but for kids in the bathroom and shower areas they could be debugged twice a day easily. and fix up lower area where the activites are (like human chess board...needs more checker peices) Overall a 5 out of 10

Just got back from 4 day stay at this campground. We didn't care for the site chosen over the phone, thought it was too narrow for our equiptment. The owner was very happy to offer other sites avaliable. Most sites clean and spacious. Bathrooms VERY CLEAN and stocked with TP, paper towels and soap dispenser. Kids had enough space to roam freely. Would agree with other review a bit over priced, espically firewood. And noise level from traffic able to be heard in the quiet hours. However this would not stop my family from camping here again. Would recommend this campground to anyone.
