We arrived in a downpour on our tandem bike. This hotel is right on the bike route, so easy to find and the hotel staff was SO kind. They let us store our bike in tbe banquet room. Our room and the continental breakfast were great. We walked to a fabulous restaurant ( Tara's Kitchen). In the morning, our bike had a flat tire. We changed it with no problem, but the staff kept checking on us and had the phone number of a nearby bike shop ready if we needed it. We felt well cared for.

The Stockton Inn is a great place to stay in Schenectady for a night or two (or seven).
It is extremely old, but very clean, and has everything you could need in your visit from out of town. A fabulous (and beautifully hand carved) bar, a dinner menu better than any local restaurant (fast food or sit down), and charming rooms. Yes, it is old...….the moldings and closets are circa 1800, but the bedding and mattresses are totally current, and all of the current requirements (iron, shampoo, hair dryer, WiFi and cable TV) are provided. I would go again tomorrow.

Room Tip: Very quiet and old fashioned rooms and service.

Last Saturday evening had the pleasure of attending a private party at the Stockade Inn in Schenectady, NY. The Inn was beautifully decorated - so pretty. We were escorted through the lounge and intimate bar area to a private dining room with a private bar. It was spacious and never felt crowded. The staff was well trained and attentive. Dinner was a buffet. (Now I have lost you!) Nope, it was delicious and all the correct temperature. Chicken in a basil cream sauce; large shrimp and pasta; tender filet; a fresh salad; a very good pasta salad.......and the usual starches. As we exited the party we again went through the lounge/bar and found it to be very cozy with a fireplace, small bar, tables and they have entertainment; that evening it was lovely jazz. We decided on a nightcap by the fire. Perfect end to a wonderful evening. We plan on returning over the Holidays as we found out they have a small lounge menu, which looks quite good and a full dining room. The Stockade Inn is in the historic and lovely Stockade neighborhood. It is a great place for 'grown ups' to enjoy an evening out.

I have stayed in a lot of historic hotels/inns and this is one of the better places to stay! They have a nice assortment of breakfast items in the morning and the morning staff is helpful and welcoming. The hotel is clean which is good considering the age of the property. The beds were queen size and comfortable. The bathroom is in good shape, clean and updated. The TV worked and we got good reception. I didn't hear much noise from the hallways but the voices from the outside do carry up if you happen to stay in a room that faces the sidewalk. We have stayed here twice in the last year as my daughter is a student at Union College. There is a person who watches the hotel at night and if you come in after 9pm you can ring the door bell and he will come open the door. My observation is that the area surrounding the Inn is safe.

Room Tip: rooms to the left of the hallway don't face a public sidewalk, they may be quieter?

For a building that was built in the early 1800's, the Stockade Inn is remarkably comfortable. Beds sleep well, bathrooms have been remodeled to modern standards, and the Wi-Fi works. (Although I did not see an elevator - we walked up one flight to our room.) This building once housed The Mohawk Club, an exclusive men-only social club that was the haunt of GE execs who hatched a price-fixing scheme with their competitors in the early 1960's that got them all tossed in jail. It's a great starting point for walking tours of the historic Stockade District, with many buildings remaining from the early Dutch settlement of the 1600's. The "continental breakfast" was fine and a good start to the day. When we come back to Schenectady, we'd stay here again.
