My company hosted a Summer Party for all it's workers + their significant others. Our planned party got washed out by the torrential rain, and the Sherwood Inn graciously accomodated 60+ people for dinner at the last minute. The servers and hosts were all gracious and polite, and it was an overall great experience! The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was delicious! I would definitely recommend the Sherwood Inn to anyone!

Nine of us enjoyed a truly delightful dinner at a large round table on the enclosed porch of this really delightful inn/restaurant overlooking Skaneateles Lake, the eastern-most of New York's beautiful Finger Lakes. Service was quick, accurate and friendly, basically impeccable, the menu impressive, the food delicious and the company hugely enjoyable. We met at the Inn for drinks last year, prior to a dinner cruise on the Lake which we also enjoyed, but I promised myself (and wife) that we would come back this way and have dinner at the Sherwood, and now we're so glad we did. What else can one say, it was a spectacular evening in a terrific spot with great company and everything going just right!

Room Tip: We didn't stay so can't advise on rooms, not sure they even have them, but if you make a res...

My husband and I made a last minute decision to visit Skaneateles and dropped in on the Sherwood Inn without a reservation. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location in town is perfect. Rooms were what you would expect in an inn from the 1800's - nicely decorated, very clean but short on bathroom and closet space. Lighting in bathroom was very dim - hard to put on makeup even with makeup mirror attached to wall. We were in room 24 which came with a sitting room overlooking main street. Very comfortable! We had dinner at the Inn. My duck was ordered medium and was delivered rare. When waitress presented bill she told us dessert and coffee were complimentary due to this mistake. That was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Other than that small mistake the meal was very good. Breakfast, which is included in room rate, was also very good. Scrambled eggs delicious! Would recommend this Inn and would also return for another visit.

The Shiraz room in the Auburn House, now managed by the Sherwood Inn, did not meet our expectations. The room is on the 'ground' level of the 'back' building. When we arrived the de-humidifier was running full force and the room smelled musty.

The TV was 1990's vintage.. REALLY???? No refrig, no microwave.. the flimsy fiberglass shower had a repair in the floor and the water flow from the shower was little better than a water hose.

While the room could easily have accommodated a king, the queen was comfortable. Without a K bed, the accommodations would have been much improved if 2 comfortable chairs and a table had been available with a view out the French doors to the creek and abundant wildlife, bunnies, birds, running along the property. Instead we made do with luggage racks.. etc.

The continental breakfast at The Sherwood, a short walk, were good...and staff VERY friendly.

Perhaps a value proposition, however, will search harder when we next visit Skaneateles, which I hope happens.. INCREDIBLE town!

Room Tip: suggest a room on the main, upper level, or perhaps in the main inn.

We stayed two nights at the Sherwood inn. The rooms are well decorated. They leave the doors open on the unoccupied rooms during the day and each room is unique. We had lunch and dinner here. The food is very good! The Maryland crab cake appetizer is wonderful!

We stayed at the Sherwood for just one night, but it was wonderful. Room 38 is quiet, peaceful and soothing in its decor and color choice. We would have liked a King Bed, rather than a queen, but that's okay. The room was spacious, but like any older historic hotel, back then they did not place a lot of importance on bathroom size or countertop space. Nor on closets. There is only an armoire, but if you are staying only one or more nights, it doesn't really matter. It is great to simply walk outside to be in the middle of town, and across from the beautiful lake. Dinner was good - my Pot Roast was delicious, but my husband's steak, unfortunately was just okay - mostly because it was rather cold. And re-warming a steak is usually not ideal. Overall, the ambience of this historic hotel is very pleasing and charming. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: The corner rooms are larger.

This year's stay was a delight. Not only did we have a complimentary breakfast every morning (included in the room fee), but we got to shop the annual Curbstone Sale and eat some terrific meals. The room this year was absolutely the best one you could want. It had a very spacious sitting room with a sofa bed and TV. The sitting room was very beautiful and had great lake views. The bedroom was quite comfortable but could have used a better closet for clothes. The armoire provided did not allow you to hang long dresses or pants without folding first. The bathroom provided a deep soaking/jetted tub with shower.
