“Anniversary overnight!”
Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

My wife and I visited the Sherwood Inn on 8/23 to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. Upon arrival the Inn was very busy as they were preparing for a wedding event. There were no parking spots for us so the front desk quickly walked out to the parking lot and reserved the first open spot for us. The front desk staff was attentive and very friendly to meet the needs of their guests.

We stayed in room 18 (how appropriate) with a king bed and jetted tub. The bed was comfortable, the decor inviting and the Inn very attractive.

We had appetizers in the tavern and then dinner later that evening. Our server Alicia was amazingly helpful, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and offered recommendations.

We had a great time celebrating our anniversary and highly recommend the Sherwood Inn.

The staff makes this grand old hotel shine. Everyone - EVERYone - we encountered was accomodating and professional. The hotel itself is quirky - there may not be a ninety degree angle in the entire building - and is everything an old lakeside hotel should be.

The decor was in keeping with the age of the hotel, but not in a fusty or fussy way. The hardwood floors are pretty awesome - you know that you're treading on boards with history and it contributes to the experience.

Our queen size bed was very comfortable and the linens smelled lovely. (Really!? I'm as amazed as you are that anyone would mention the smell of the sheets, but there you go.) The bathroom was large with a soaking tub AND shower. No, the sink counter was not the size of a doublewide, but there was more than enough space on the tub surround for our toiletry bags.

We opted to have dinner in the tavern/pub and were happy with that decision. BIG GOLD STARS to the management - we never knew our server's name until we looked at the receipt. (That being said, if you can get a seat in Allison's area go for it - she was awesome!) Breakfast was included the following morning and was delightful. The top hinged windows in the dining room were open, so it seemed almost like a breakfast picnic. Pastries were delicious, and don't forget to try the house made granola!

The morning of our departure we noticed a young man putting oak logs into a wheelbarrow and carting them through a gate toward the hotel. We waited until he returned to find out what he was up to.....Apparently the fireplace in the lobby actually works, AND there are rooms available that also have working wood fireplaces. This would be an amazing venue for a winter get away!

I asked my honey what he liked most about the Sherwood and he summed it up very well. "It's hard to know what I like best when they're doing everything right.

Elegantly poised at the top of lake, this classic Inn is a gem! Built in 1807, the wide pine boards and sloping floors attest to the years of service this Inn has given. It's worn well and appropriate updates make it even more comfortable today.

If location is everything this place has it all. Steps from shops and restaurants, an unmatched view to the lake, and just 20 miles out of Syracuse, it's convenient and scenic.

Our "bargain" room lacked a tub but a featured a comfortable bed, a small sitting area, a clean bath, three brights windows, and all the comforts we needed.

Though we chose to have our dinner elsewhere, the Inn's restaurant was bustling on an August Sunday. There was live music in the tavern and formal dining across the lounge. There was sill activity in the bar when we returned for an after-dinner drink but, by morning, silence had overtaken. We were struck by the quiet calm as we enjoyed our buffet breakfast on the porch overlooking the lake.

Outstanding location, friendly service, reasonable price, clean accommodations, and excellent food and drink. Loved it.

Room Tip: Views of the lake are awesome!

Beautiful hotel with character. We stayed in room 21, excellent view, faces the lake. It had a separate seating area as well. It can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children. The reception and wait staff were pleasant. We did eat dinner in the restaurant and that was very good. The continental breakfast was great, very fresh fruit and scones. Cereals for children. Usually continental breakfast at hotels are usually pretty crappy in my opinion but this one was great.
The bakery right behind this hotel has awesome bread too! The town was very clean and safe to walk around. I would stay here again. So happy we found this place! looking forward to going back!

The initial impression is of venerable age, and old style comfort. Bendy floor beams, old paintings, creaky floors, wooden everything. Our reception was friendly and the waitresses very helpful and obliging. Breakfast although continental was good. We stayed 2 nights and had 3 rooms between us. The front rooms had wonderful views of the lake and were comfortable and certainly big enough for a couple. The rear room was a bit tight but adequate. An air conditioning unit in one room failed for both nights despite a repair, a bulb remained out in another room, so the hotel definitely needs to up its maintenance. The ground floor is surprisingly busy in the evening, with the restaurant and the bar, and patrons just taking in the atmosphere, in the lounge and down the front steps, but it all quietens down pretty quickly, and the hotel is quiet at night, with the traffic on W Genessee St at the front down to just a trickle. Location can't be beaten; if you don't walk further than the pretty park in front of the hotel, swim in the (lifeguarded and buoyed off part of the) lake, and take a dinner cruise, you will enjoyed a very relaxing break in this lovely town. Definitely go again.

My company hosted a Summer Party for all it's workers + their significant others. Our planned party got washed out by the torrential rain, and the Sherwood Inn graciously accomodated 60+ people for dinner at the last minute. The servers and hosts were all gracious and polite, and it was an overall great experience! The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was delicious! I would definitely recommend the Sherwood Inn to anyone!

Nine of us enjoyed a truly delightful dinner at a large round table on the enclosed porch of this really delightful inn/restaurant overlooking Skaneateles Lake, the eastern-most of New York's beautiful Finger Lakes. Service was quick, accurate and friendly, basically impeccable, the menu impressive, the food delicious and the company hugely enjoyable. We met at the Inn for drinks last year, prior to a dinner cruise on the Lake which we also enjoyed, but I promised myself (and wife) that we would come back this way and have dinner at the Sherwood, and now we're so glad we did. What else can one say, it was a spectacular evening in a terrific spot with great company and everything going just right!
