Aunt Louise's Lake House

This place was nothing like I expected from the other reviews. The hosts (especially Louise) were not that friendly and the house was nothing special. There were no amenities......I had to ask for something cold to drink . Other places we stayed at had coffee, tea, cold drink available at all times. They had nothing here except for a decanter of sherry in the hallway to be shared by all guests. The worst was the breakfast. We all had to eat at the same time...9:00 a.m. Dale actually had us guessing where the different juices were from.....like who cares? Eventually, we got the breakfast consisting of "coddled" eggs an English muffin and a couple pieces of bacon. Wow! I waited an hour for that? The eggs were too runny. Another guest and myself said we couldn't eat them like that and they cooked them longer. The whole production took over an hour.. Because of their ridiculously long breakfast we missed the house tour at MacKenzie-Childs in Aurora, NY and there wasn't another tour for 2 hours. So we didn't get to go on that tour which, by the way, was one of the main reasons for visiting. I was very disappointed and angry. And, this was my birthday. I had told Louise that on the phone and thought she would at least wish me a happy birthday. She just ignored it. A really friendly person!!!!!!!! And we paid $197 for a mediocre room.

Hosts Louise and Dale are very warm and friendly people. They like visiting and are interested in all of their guests. The house has only three rooms so it is cozy and away from the mainstream - about four miles down the east side of the lake from downtown. The breakfasts are not at a fixed hour but rather when the guests agree on a time - a nice change from most B&Bs. All guests share a single table so there is good conversation and sharing of experiences. The hosts plan great breakfasts with great care. Our stay was super and relaxed. The only down side is that our mattress and pillows could stand to be upgraded (lakeview room). Other than that, we had an enjoyable stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Aunt Louise's Lake House. Dale and Louise are wonderful hosts who take great pride in their B & B. The breakfasts were fantastic and and we were pleased with our introduction to "coddled eggs." Definitely is the place to stay when enjoying the finger lakes in NY state.

Room Tip: The Tree Tops room had a view of the lake and large private bath. There was no pool, but I could no...

Dale and Louise are wonderful hosts. You'll think--maybe they really are a distant aunt or uncle. They are energetic, cheerful, and accommodating in making sure your stay in the area is memorable. Their home is comfortable. Breakfast each of our two days was different and delicious both days. The waffles were fabulous, although my diabetic wife had to pass on them. The next day's coddled eggs were equally great. We stayed in the largest of the three rooms. The AC in our room is independently controlled in that room, so we had ability to set it just as we liked. I would suggest that they update the small CRT TV to a flat screen set since they have full cable service. But... you're not here to watch tv anyway. This is a great place to stay and we would certainly stay here again and recommend it to our friends.

My husband and I only stayed one night and mostly enjoyed the sweet welcome. Breakfast is truly the best we have had in a B&B. Louise and Dale are caring hosts, engaging in conversation and definitely willing to make our stay in the area enjoyable.

5 women traveling together! We have known each other for over 60 years and make quite the ruckus. Dale and Louise put up with our shenanigans. Such gracious and patient hosts! The rooms are delightful, the view is breathtaking, and the breakfast is sumptuous and delectable. Skaneateles is a gem in the Finger Lakes and Aunt Louise's is the perfect place to stay. I am recommending to everyone who plans to see area.
