Owner description: This beautiful beach is across the Long Island Sound from Connecticut.

Goldsmith's beach is adjacent to a narrow inlet which connects to a large salt pond. As the tide changes the small inlet becomes a swift moving river. Ride the current, but be careful on an outgoing tide, you don't want to end up offshore in the Sound.

Goldsmiths Inlet is a small tidal connection between a pond and the Long Island sound. A tide operated mill used to operate here but it is long gone; what remains is a mostly shallow winding creek-like waterway which flows either into the pond or out from it depending on the tide. This makes for a low tech but wonderful "lazy river" place to float on your back or in a tube. There is also the sound beach for swimming or strolling. There are no facilities here and one should have a Town of Southold parking permit in the parking lot.

This is one of my favorie beach destinations. This beach has a tidal pond that is a kayaking dream. Nice flat water and undeveloped geography creates a relaxing area to paddle and relax with young ones. When the tide is coming or going, the inlet has a little bit of white water and the kids love it. It is natures waterpark! The jetty is perfect for fishing. Just think you can go to the beach and bring home dinner! The walking trails surrounding the pond are well marked and easy to navigate. Make sure you arrive with your sun screen and parking sticker. This will soon become one of your favorites. WIth the surf rolling in and miles of waterfront walkable beach, how can you go wrong?

The beach to the south west of the inlet is worth a look to, lots of interesti to beachcombers, including the carapaces of horseshoe crabs.

This is a beautiful preserve on LI Sound, with a tidal inlet where the water rushes into a peaceful pond. I swam here October 1--not quite polar bear season but thrillingly brisk.
