My husband and I stayed at the Hartshorne House while attending a wedding in Staten Island. It was close to the venue so we opted for it because the owner told us we could bring our dog at no extra charge. The house is very old and pretty creaky in places but Miriam (the owner) is very hospitable and friendly. She welcomed us and our dog and told us to make ourselves at home.

We had a large room (I think there are only two that she rents out) and the bathroom was across the hall. It's not the most modern of places but it gets the job done and it's cozy. We were the only ones staying that weekend so we got the second floor to ourselves. The real highlight of the stay is the breakfast, yum! She asked what time we wanted it at and she had it ready for us. We got croissants fresh from the market, scones, cereal, eggs, bacon, granola, oj and it was all great. The breakfast alone would make me come back. She even let our dog come downstairs and roam around while we ate.

Overall, it's not posh but it definitely gets the job done. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a different experience and a delicious breakfast too! Thanks Miriam.

This B&B is a home built after the Civil War and has 2 simple clean bedrooms, a lovely dinning room and a nice wrap around porch to relax on. Being on Staten Island for the 5 Boro NYC Bike Tour made it convenient as it's a 10 minute bike ride to the Staten Island Ferry but he real high point is the proprietress, Miriam. She had breakfast ready for us at 5:30 AM as we had to get to the ferry early to travel to Manhattan for the bike tour. If you're not staying the next night most B&B's would have you pack your bags and check out, but not Miriam. "Feel free to return and shower after the ride before you return home". When packing to leave I misplaced my Ipod Nano and couldn't find it. 1 1/2 hours later during our trip home my cell phone beeped and there was a message from Miriam. " I found the Ipod and will send it back to you, insured, tomorrow ". Prices for the rooms are very reasonable as well. Also recommend Adobe Blues Restaurant 2 blocks away.
