CNYP is really two related things. First, it is a facility, a multipurpose theater that has been cleverly created in a former retail store in Shoppingtown Mall. It is an intimate venue that can serve audiences up to about 100 or so. It has quickly become a very popular and successful location for various local singers, comedians, and other performers. Nothing to do this weekend? You might want to check out CNYP's website, because there's a good chance that they have something interesting to offer.
While the CNYP facility has been a welcoming host to a variety of performers who are otherwise unrelated to the CNYP organization (which is a not-for -profit), CNYP also has its own season of shows to offer, ranging from great dramas to hilarious comedies to musicals. The improv troupe, Don't Feed the Actors, also performs here numerous times each year. I've been to a lot of these productions and always had a great time.
CNYP showcases local performers who usually are not full-time professional entertainers, but the quality is still impressive. The pricing of the shows, given the level of talent, is frequently a great bargain.
Some shows are offered with an optional pre-show dinner served by a caterer, right in the theater. While I've found the food to be fairly good, there are no menu choices so you might want to ask what's being served before you decide. A limited selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages is offered for some performances.
