“Very good food in a hectic environment”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

The Clam Bar is always packed, and, most likely, you will wait a while for a table. The food is worth the wait. It's a very local place that has fast-moving servers. So make sure to look at the menu quickly as "time waits for no person." It is friendly, though, if a bit rushed.

“Awesome comfort food and terrific people watching of the locals!”
Reviewed 26 July 2013

Happened to get grounded in Syracuse this week and ate here TWICE in less than 24 hours it was so good. Sat at the bar both for dinner and for the next day's lunch. Had cippino with tons of flavorful seafood along with whole wheat penne pasta and two glasses of red wine. Watched sassy (in a good way) female servers, watched a couple of cougar ladies in their animal print attire, and it just gave off a terrific positive vibe for local flavor. At lunch the next day, I HAD to have cold draft beer to do with my fried clams and cole slaw. Truly perfect dish! Clams were coated in what seemed to be cornmeal and fried to perfection. Really a great spot that shouldn't be overlooked! Thanks for treating a rather snooty Charleston SC boy so nicely!

“A friendly place with very good seafood”
Reviewed 26 June 2013

We were with friends and shared several plates - Had clam chowder, raw clams and clams casino that were all very good - the garlic mussels however had no garlic flavour and tasted very strong indicating they were not fresh - definitely do not recommend the mussels.
The haddock, stuffed sole and the scallops were very good as was the coconut cream pie.
Lisa was possibly the best server we have ever had as she was friendly, knowlegeable about the menu and wines and was very efficient - unfortunately she was not backed up by the hostess who was the opposite.
The restaurant is very fish oriented with stuffed fish on the walls, is older as evidenced by the lack of stuffing in the old booth seats - overall a very casual, friendly ambiance which allowed for a fun experience - we would all return if in the area.

“Excellent Food, Cozy Atmosphere, Local Favorite”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

When people talk about a non-chain “hole in the wall” with great food, this is the place. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it has quite a cozy atmosphere inside. Everything I’ve tried over the years has been excellent. In addition to having great seafood dishes, some of their hot sandwiches are the best values around ($5-$8). I’ve tried the steak sandwich many times and very good. It’s not huge but just the right size, tender, easy to eat, and taste great. The haddock sandwich is a big filet perfectly crisp, and one of the best around. The hamburger was surprisingly juicy and outstanding. In addition, the fries have a nice crispy coating. The steamed clams taste very fresh, and I especially like the Clams Provincial. The New England Clam Chowder is the best I’ve had, including several places throughout New England. It’s won several awards in chowder cook-offs over the years. Another winner is their wings. They are lightly breaded and crispy. The Renate’s German wings are unique, and have a buttery paprika sauce.
I prefer the booths in the bar area since they are bigger, and you can see all the flat screen TVs. My most recent visit was on 6/21/2013, and the service was superb considering it was very busy. When they brought my haddock sandwich, it was too hot to eat and had to let it sit for a minute to cool down.
Don’t be afraid to give this place a try. I’m a Syracuse native and it’s one of my favorite places in the area.
