“Fabulous pizza!”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

These guys have great pizza! Very much a NY style. The atmosphere isn't great but we don't often eat there.

“Love their luna pizza! Bring cash - no credit cards”
Reviewed 7 May 2013

Tucked away behind Tops Market in Nottingham, close to Syracuse University's South Campus. Great pizza! We love their luna stuffed pizza - only sold as a full pie. They have been in business since 1971. They only take cash, no credit cards. Sitting area available.

“Best real NY style pizza in Syracuse, hands down.”
Reviewed 9 December 2011

I have worked at SU for over 10 years now, and have eaten at Johnny's at least a few times a month for that entire time. Let me just say right up front, I don't have ANY connection to Johnny's other than a customer. Back in the late 90s and early 2000s it was under a different owner, and a few years back it was repurchased by the original owner "Junior". It was good, average central NY neapolitan Pizza before, since Junior took back over (and brought in a whole new staff) its gotten WAY better. I eat a lot of pizza, all over the area, and even down NYC way, and my favorite style is neapolitan.

Johnny's makes the best real NYC style neapolitan in the area. Thin, but not a cracker. Slightly crispy on the bottom, soft on top, not too much sauce, good cheese. Lots of choices for slices (usually 8-10 different pies at lunchtime). Ive eaten at most of the rest around here, and for me (and many others) Johnny's is definitely the best for this style.

Usually very busy at lunchtime, but still pretty quick for take out, and has a nice pizzeria style dining area (booths, tables). They also have good soups, and good hot or cold subs (although, as the other reviewer stated, they are on the small side). Good calzones too.

Check the pizzageek website for lots of great local pizza reviews around this area (google pizzageek and syracuse... No, Im not affiliated...)

“Once Great, Now Mediocre”
Reviewed 29 July 2009

What used to be the best pizza in Syracuse, is now as non-descript as Domino's and Papa John's...and it isn't that cheap either. Salty and chewy is the best way to describe Johnny's. They don't take credit cards either. Their subs are small, too. The original Johnny must be rolling in his grave at the thought of what has happened to this once great pizzeria!
