We have a home up in Hunter, never knew this place existed. One day while site seeing, we stumbled on The Deer Mountain Inn. Decided to try it for dinner that same night. We fell in love with the ambiance, the fireplaces, the food is amazing. We have visited the Inn an additional 5 times, with guests, and everyone fell in love with this place.

We had a last minute change of plans called the Inn and were able to get a table for 3. When we arrived we were greeted at the front door by a charming host, the place was packed and we were seated immediately. We had a table in the main dining room adjacent to an Amazing Grand Fireplace and lounge area with 2 sofas. The Inn has a wonderful warmth and charm. The menu has a lot to offer including a variety of kids choices. The food was outstanding as we had a sampling of appetizers of Cheese Raclette (melted cheese in a mini iron skillet w/ pickles and potatoes, Baked Oysters w/ spinach, leeks and tarragon, Lobster Bisque's, Entrees included Seared Scallops w/ Harvest Veggies, Smokey Bacon, Butternut Squash, Deer Mtn Inn Burgers w/ Pepper-Parmesan Fries w/ Truffle Aioli. The service and our server were very good considering how busy it was. We finished up with desert and coffee on the sofa in front of the fireplace. When we left we were giving our coats and walked to the door by the same charming host that greeted us upon our arrival. Thank You All for a Wonderful Christmas Eve Dinner !!!!

We went with 3 other couples and had a wonderful evening. The food was exceptional and presented beautifully. The service was good and our server was a delight. They had a 2 piece band as well who were just great... all in all a wonderful evening. Thank you all very much !

Room Tip: Rooms will be opened later this year after on-going renovations. So cannot comment.

The Deer Mt. Inn has been done over with no expense spared and no detail too small for attention. The overall look and feel are remarkable and the classic country inn style is totally wrapped in elegance. Best ambiance on the Hunter area mountaintop by a long margin. The new menu is wide and fun-filled. A good feel of farm-to-table cuisine with lots of tasty surprises- our recent visit included a delicious beet salad and roast venison. My wife had a chicken entre served in a white bean stew that was most flavorful. The wine list was extensive and most modestly priced- some great values ! While the look the feel and food all get top marks, service is still a work in progress. There were long pauses from our order until the first course arrived and from our finish of course one until the main course was served. Not sure if wait staff needs training or the kitchen is overtaxed in filling orders, but the dining room was only about 2/3 full the evening of our visit. So go for a drink by the fire, go for the comfortable cocktail seating, go for the nice wood-paneled rooms and exquisite artworks, go for the delicious food- but don't go if you have somewhere else to be later on or a babysitter on the clock at home.

Have stayed several times, have eaten there also, no complaints. However, in 2011 and 2012 had tremendous difficulty in having two reservations for a 3-4 night stay honored. Reservations were made well in advance of dates needed, a credit card deposit was given (but never charged by the owner to my account, & believe me, I have impecable credit), and when I called to reconfirm the dates, I was told that there was no availability and that I had never made the reservations. Well, one time I can credit to mismanagement, but the second time is extremely poor business practice. I have always loved the ambiance of Deer Mountain Inn, but I have stopped recommending the property for this reason. In addition, it is almost impossible to contact the owner, leaving a message seems to mean nothing, calls are not returned; and not being able to reach Danielle by e-mail seems archaic. Both times I was lucky to have found a spot at the Washington Irving Inn, thank God for Stephanie. She found a place for me even though she was booked and I was literally homeless by this cancelled reservation at Deer Park. Beware of Danielle's moods! One other observation, both of these reservations were made prior to peak events, Memorial Day and Oktoberfest and leaf viewing season, perhaps she didn't like the idea that she had quoted me a lower rate and then realized she could make more money by walk-ins or overbooking. The worst part is that she lied and told me that I had not reconfirmed either time. Coming from Texas to NY is quite a haul and this is pretty poor management. Thank you.

Stayed here with a group of friends while skiing Hunter Mountain for the weekend. We had a well decorated and very clean room with 2 full beds and a fireplace. The mattresses were very uncomfortable and two of the windows had Plexiglas on them to prevent wind drafts which made noise all night. The breakfast included fresh rolls, croissants, cereals and scrambled eggs all of which were very good.

The 3 course dinner at the restaurant located downstairs from the inn was very good, but rather expensive for the location. The food was fresh, tasty and well prepared.

Deer Mountain Inn is one of those kind of off-the-beaten track places that needs to be treasured!. A group of 6 had dinner there last weekendve and it could not have been more perfect - from the setting to the service to the wonderful food. You sort of feel like a houseguest at a rich friend's mansion (European style!). Can't wait to get back!

Room Tip: we didn't stay here this time but certainly will next!!
