My wife and I and another couple went down to Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown for Halloween (what else?). We staid at the Castle Hotel and Spa in Tarrytown. This was a great decision on our part. The hotel and grounds are absolutely beautiful. The building itself is a 19th century mansion, and they have been able to retain its ambiance. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I got the general impression they would do anything for you to make your stay enjoyable. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable. We had a complimentary breakfast every morning which was delicious. Since we were out and about, we never had the opportunity to have dinner at the hotel. We certainly will give it a try when we go back, which we are already planning to do next year. Can't say enough about this hotel.

We drove to The Castle from Hyde Park in no time, so it's a great base from which to go to the Culinary Institute for lunch or the FDR home or museum for a quick visit. The Castle staff is superb. They did not miss a beat. Our room was spacious with a great bathroom in which two people can easily get ready at the same time. We were greeted with a glass of champagne when we checked in and had a fridge in the room stocked with soft drinks and water. We met friends there for drinks and dinner. There is a separate bar where you can hear yourselves talk with a nice, sophisticated atmosphere with great bartenders and staff. Our dinner was excellent with a wide variety from which to choose, and the service was top-notch again. I made use of the fitness facility, and there is a full spa that I did not use but will next time. The history of the place is very interesting, and it was conveniently located to Woodberry Common Outlets and fairly close to West Point, where we were meeting for a reunion. I highly recommend The Castle.

We went this summer to the castle to escape the NYC heat. The location was very good since it was only an hour away but felt far enough outside the city and the air was much better. The breakfasts were very nice and delicious.

The reason for the average rating is because I didn't particularly like the service especially the welcome receptionist. I thought the rooms were mediocre especially the small windows. I thought the price was high. Finally I said it was our anniversary when I booked the hotel and we never received any special attention. The spa was not open.

If you are looking to leave the city during the summer this could be a good option, but I do think they could be doing a better job having such an amazing property!

It was our second time to visit the Castle and yet another exceptional experience. Traveling with a 10-year old, this is a perfect place to stay. The hotel offers a pool with a waterfall, music and a bar, large rooms, and it is located near the heart of the Tarrytown village. More than anything, the staff at the Castle is beyond compare. I can't say enough about them. Every member of the staff went above and beyond what I would expect from a 5-star hotel. By the time we left, they almost felt like family. And every time I offered a tip for their service, they seemed surprised and grateful! On our last night there, one of the staff at the front desk even went to the kitchen to get us a jar to catch fireflies in the back garden. Truly a magical last night at the Castle. I would recommend guests request the rooms in the original side of the hotel, though, because they have more character. The rooms in the newer wing are roomy but more standard for a hotel. This is, by far, one of my all-time favorite destinations.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the original "castle" side.
