“Informal and enjoyable”

Lady Anne Boat Trips
Reviewed 19 July 2014

This is a hidden gem of an outing on the eastern end of Grimsay, around the island of Rona and under the shadow of Eaval, the highest hill on North Uist. We had a beautiful day, and saw deer, Red Throated Divers, and a Golden Eagle, as well as fine views of the coast and hills. While Nick doesn't claim to be a wildlife expert, he encourages people with knowledge to participate and point things out, has a couple of binoculars available for those without any. Having said that, he obviously knows a thing or two about what's to see on the trip, and can answer loads of questions about the locality.

Be a bit careful about embarking and disembarking - the facilities at Kallin harbour are not 5-star from a health-and-safety viewpoint, but it is a working quayside, and that's part of the experience.

The weather changed mid-trip with blue skies showing us the beautiful coastline around Grimsay and the surrounding islands. We had come with a Western Isles wildlife tour and the bird life lived up to expectation: sea eagle, divers, etc. Sheep, red deer. Beautiful scenery. No sign of human habitation.

Nick's experience and care of his clients as we step off and on the dock, and whilst out on the sea is excellent. There are binoculars and info available.

I would definitely recommend Nick and his boat. An excellent 2 hrs.

We had a nice trip on the boat. We didn't really see any wildlife and here wasn't much commentary during the two hours on board. Still it was a nice day to be at sea.

My friend bumped her head when the boat docked.

We couldn't have picked a better day for our trip, warm and sunny with little wind. We had booked the 2 hour trip which is essentially a circuit of the uninhabited island of Ronay - uninhabited, that is, by humans - there are plenty of wild inhabitants. There are no sheep there now but many deer so we hoped to see some and were not disappointed. Another inhabitant is the white-tailed eagle and we were lucky enough to see two of these in flight. Alas, we saw no otters or dolphins, but it was such a beautiful day that I was just happy to take in the beautiful scenery and take the occasional photo - bliss!

Great trip to see wildlife and did we. Of course it is always a matter of luck as much as anything if wildlife can be seen but skipper Nick knows a thing or two about where to sail and what might be seen. On this trip we were fortunate to see wild deer, seals, sea eagles that flew alongside the boat and to top it off, an otter playing with a fish! I have enjoyed both the wildlife trip and a fishing trip and both have been excellent. Nick's experience and knowledge of these waters and of the local fauna is second to none. Thoroughly recommend the experience!
