“Ecletic selection wonderfully prepared in an intimate setting”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

We had a wonderful meal at this cafe.

The setting was fun. Old time silent movies on a large screen, big band music softly playing in the background.

Service was good. The waitstaff was attentive and the timing of the courses was well spaced.

There are some different selections on the menu including appetizers such as French Buffalo Wings which are based on frog legs and seared ostrich. I had Steak Saltimbocca which was fantastic and my wife had Seared Scallops which included a sublime risotto. The only disappointment was the dessert cake which was dry and did not match the level of quality of the rest of the food.

We will definitely be back and we hear that the breakfast during weekend farmers market is to die for.

Highly recommended.

“Best risotto EVER!!”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

The Illium recently started serving dinner after a several year hiatus...during that time they were a brunch and lunch venue. The building and rooms are quirky and fun. Its an old building with weird little cut-ins and outs along the walls. The decor isn't fancy, but its interesting and artsy in a contrived manner.
The wait staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu options.
Everything we ate that night was something to ooohh and ahh about . but it was the creamy drunken risotto that stole the day and all my memories away. this is something to eat again and again and again!

“Good Food, Medium Ambience”
Reviewed 17 April 2014 via mobile

Downtown Troy is having something of a revival, with increased good places to eat and drink.

Illium offers very good and often excellent food. The limitation is the space: too many tables in a cramped area, with a take out business running alongside, too. When things are slow, the place is very good. When things are busy, the experience suffers.

“A pleasure”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

Stopped in for a sandwich before heading to the Troy Schools' Art Show. I ordered from the build your own sandwich section of the menu: roast beef. provolone, lettuce, tomato, mayo on marble bread:a yummy sandwich. My sandwich came with a delicious potato salad--loved the touch of roasted red peppers. This cafe is located in a Victorian era building that is tastefully decorated. The staff are friendly, polite and service oriented. A great place to eat in downtown Troy.
