“Some Good Food”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

This is a truly mixed review. I shall begin with the positives.

In general the limited menu is imaginative, bordering on pretentious at times.

For the most part, the food was above satisfactory. It was quite good.

Service was slow and spotty. The ambience was forgettable. No convenient parking,

but in a nice location near the River Street art galleries and antique shops.

The "Vegetarian Mac & Cheese" [$15] was tortellini / mixed vegetables with a Mornay Sauce.

My Kobe Burger [$13] was tasty but served well-done, in spite of it being ordered rare.

It was to come with "eggplant fries", but they were "all out."

I was offered cole slaw or potato salad. I suggested substituting a vegetable of any kind.

I got a side salad and the vinaigrette was absent. The salad contained shredded carrots and

shredded yellow squash (?) with tomatoes that were unripe to the pointer of being inedible.

This, in a community replete with farmer's markets, in August, ?

The House Salad is $8. That item is overpriced and thete were no other salads on the menu.

The bigger problem, as I see it, is that this all occurred on a Saturday evening at 6:45 p.m.

and there were few other diners. We had reservations. Overall experience was a big "Blah."

“Lovely little cafe in Troy”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Stopped here for brunch after a visit to RPI. Adorable little cafe with plenty of street parking outside. My sister had the duck omelet, and I had the eggs benedict. Both were delicious. Good service, and cute decor. I would definitely eat here again.

“Great food, memorable decor”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

The food is nicely prepared in this cafe. And the atmosphere is great, too. The front room has the feel of a European cafe with small tables, dark wood, a giant mirror, and muraled walls. There are a couple of additional dining rooms in the rear that have their own unique charm, although I think they could eliminate some of the table cloths (both on the tables and on the various surfaces within the dining room) and be OK. We had a mid-week lunch and although the cafe was busy the service was attentive and food arrived quickly. My wife said it was the best BLT she'd ever had. The BLT's multi-grain bread was tasty and toasted on a panini press. My half turkey sandwich was also good and the lobster bisque was very good.

“Troy Night Out @ Illium Cafe”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

Went on Troy's Night Out. Enjoyed the outside venue, food was very good and locally grown. Only serves wine or beer but dessert was the best.

“One of My favorite breakfast places”
Reviewed 20 June 2014 via mobile

Love the unique menu. Not a lot of choices (which is good for
me). Right in downtown Troy. My favorite is eggs Benedict with bacon and the tarragon hollandaise sauce.
