“A wonderful stay!”

We stayed at the Black Walnut for one night and we'd love to go back again. Our room was lovely, well appointed and very comfortable. The whole B&B had a beautiful ambiance, and I only wish we had more time to sit in the living room in front of the fire. Jack is a wonderful innkeeper! This is why we love B&B's!

2 couples looking for a place to stay in the finger lake area for a weekend, so we looked at Trip advisor for reviews. When we saw the reviews of Black Walnut it was almost hard to believe, but they were on the money. Not only will you have an amazing stay, when you leave you feel that you made a friend. His restaurant recommendations, hiking trail advice, winery tour reviews, never missed and I am thankful that we let him just pick our places. It made our long weekend very laid back and extremely enjoyable. The breakfast that he cooked for us both mornings were phenomenal as well as the little extras that are constantly offered to his guests.

Room Tip: Both rooms that we had made us feel we were alone in the house. very private

My first trip to the Finger Lakes and I luckily stumbled upon Black Walnut online. What a great find! Jack is amazing as a host and a cook. The breakfast was amazing every, single morning. The smell alone was enough to wake me up from my second story room. The room was immaculate, very clean and cozy. The room came with two skylights and though it was cloudy the nights we were there, the view in the mornings were still great. Jack is very knowledgeable about the area and has many great recommendations. Location is near many nature sites and great wineries. Overall, a wonderful experience and I will definitely be back.

I lucked into staying at the Black Walnut on my first trip to the Finger Lakes. Jack was a great host and gave me lots of great ideas of things to do and wineries to visit. I like the juxtaposition of staying in a 19th century farm house and having direct TV and wifi. Its a great central location to visit the towns in the area, waterfalls, and wineries. Highly recommend.

This past weekend was my first time staying in a B&B. My sister and I chose to do some wine tasting on Cayuga Lake for her 21st birthday. After reading the wonderful reviews on Tripadvisor we chose the Black Walnut B&B. Upon arriving we were a little disappointed to realize that the innkeeper, Jack, was away for the weekend and we would be hosted by a substitute Julie. Our disappointment quickly subsided - Julie was extremely nice, she had great suggestions for what to do over our weekend, and she's an awesome cook. The first morning she made an amazing pecan french toast that may have been the best thing i've ever eaten! Personally, i could have eaten a few more slices of bacon but that's just nitpicking! Our second morning we had a tomato and cheese frittata with fried potatoes that was also just wonderful! The inn itself is beautiful, definately has the very old house feel to it. We were in the Oswaca room which was very nice, has a roomy new shower too. The walls are pretty thin there so we were conscious of trying to keep our voices down because we could hear our neighbors pretty well. The only reasons I gave it a 4 over a 5 was that I noticed quite a bit of dust on the bathroom ceiling fan and some other places, which as an allergy sufferer can be a downer. Other reviews had talked about being greated with glasses of wine and this is something that didn't happen (or we missed). Overall, we had a fantastic trip and I would definately stay here again if we were in the area. I'm not sure that I would always choose a B&B over a hotel but for the area and setting it was perfect!

We decided to spend some time in the Finger Lakes area of New York to see the fall colors and visit some wineries in the area. We found the Black Walnut B & B on Purple Roofs and booked a 2 night 3 day mid week vacation. The location was perfect, between the two largest finger lakes, Seneca and Cayuga. We checked in and we're greeted by Jack the inn keeper as if we were old friends. He made us feel right at home. His knowledge of the area was excellent. He mapped out a wonderful tour for us selecting some lovely wineries and a delicious restaurant for lunch. Our breakfasts both days were so good I asked for the recipes. Turns out Jack uses vegetables grown in his garden in the relaxing back yard of the B & B. Even Willie, the B & B's resident terrier mix made us feel right at home. On our second day we walked right down the road to the Americana Winery for a delicious dinner. Our suite was large and comfortable with a separate TV room which worked out great for us. If we had more time I would have spent another couple of days there. There was so much to see and do that our 2 night was not enough time.

We just spent 3 wonderful dys in the finger lakes region of New York. We were leary about staying at a B & B due to a very bad experience in the past. The Black Walnut B & B is a quaint home with a very comfortable atmosphere.Jack Moore our host made us feel right at home, offered wine in the evening and great, hearty breakfasts. The banana pecan ( from Georgia ) pancakes, fritata and last but not lease YUMMY maple pecan french toast with native maple syryp were very large servings and scrumcious. We would highly recommend this B & B to anyone looking for a place to stay while in the finger lakes. It is centrally located with easy drive to wineries, cities and attractions. We will sure return to the Black Walnut on our next visit.

Room Tip: The rooms along the road Rte 96 has quite a bit of road noise at night but you enjoy everything else...
