“Perfect Place for the Dog Lover”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

My husband and I came to Audrey's to celebrate his birthday and wanted to bring our dog with us.

I had read reviews about this place and was looking forward to arriving and getting a break from the city.

We arrived Friday evening just in time for sunset and our dog to run around the property. The property is quite large it can really wear your dog out. There was a note to check in and directions to our room. Only one couple staying had arrived but they had went out for dinner so my husband and I had the place to ourselves for the evening. We brought our own food and used the charcoal grill, had a lovely dinner outside watching the sunset. I was in heaven!

Sat we woke up early most of the couples are up at 7am with the dogs running around outside. Coffee and cake is served at around 730am and a hearty breakfast is served at 930am. Emma the manager who is nothing BUT wonderful checked up on during breakfast, advised us on where to go and what to do and see if we needed anything. If I was to run a bed and breakfast I would definitely have her running it she takes really good care of the guests. We decided to spend the morning at the pool which is nice doggies are allowed on the deck not in the pool. We then went wine tasting in the region which they also allow dogs. Definitely stop by Baldwin Vineyard they allowed our dog on leash inside and had the best dessert wines to taste. Emma had made a reservation for us Lombardi's italian restaurant which was also friendly and good, they allowed us to sit outside with our dog and provided her a bowl of water.

Normally its so stressful to travel and leave our pets at home, but I have never been away and been able to take our dog with us EVERYWHERE. Everyone was kind and friendly and she never left our side even when we went out to eat.

The room we had booked was the cathedral, I wanted to get the suite but it was all booked up. However we felt out of all the rooms the Cathedral was the most private, there is a staircase by the front entrance leading up to the room and it was large with a large bed and another twin bed for a guest or child to sleep on. If you have a hard time walking up and down stairs do not book this room as it can be quite steep.

We did get a chance to meet Audrey and Don the owners who were also friendly and happy to meet their guests.

We are already looking forward to booking during orchard season in the fall, can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: I liked my Cathedral Room I felt it was more privacy then the others.

We spent our anniversary at Audrey’s Farmhouse Bread & Breakfast in New York’s beautiful Hudson Valley. This B & B is more than 200 years old, very charming, full of character and a real treasure hidden in the countryside. We had the opportunity to really relax, enjoy the beautiful landscape, and the breakfast was outstanding. We found everyone at Audrey’s Farmhouse very caring and helpful.

We were searching for a pet-friendly B & B and all our expectations were exceeded at Audrey’s, including those of our 8 year-old Australian Sheppard.

We arrived early and Emma, the manager, was most gracious and welcoming. The inn had been completely booked the night before and our room was not yet ready. She gave us a tour and offered us homemade cupcakes and cookies. The downstairs is full of antiques, beautiful furniture and large windows overlooking the Shawangunk Mountains.

She suggested a great spot for lunch, the Café Mio in nearby Gardiner. When we returned, our room was ready and we settled in for a great afternoon.

We had dinner reservations at the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park. Emma assured us all the lights would be on when we returned and she would have the coffee pot ready to go so all we had to do was turn it on if we got up before 7AM.

The next morning was the highlight of our stay. The chef, Brad, is a Culinary School graduate and the pastry chef at nearby Vassar College. It’s a wonderful experience to have your personal chef and when Brad said, “What would you like for breakfast?” that’s exactly what we had. The fresh fruit, blueberry pancakes, bacon, home fries, juice and his homemade pastries were absolutely delicious. Our time with him, Emma and the comfort of their kitchen while enjoying the view of the mountains was indeed memorable.

We will be going back.

Room Tip: Ask for the suite right off the kitchen with a private enterance.

Big Price for a worn-out musty room, rank-smelling bathroom and small, uncomfortable bed...which by the way, despite their website claim, was not a 'real feather bed' (I looked).
Things look ok on surface but had a definite 'ick' factor. (spotty glasses, dirty silverware, stained sheets..hair in stinky shower drain. ugh!)
House is certainly fascinating, old-fashioned & charming, but good luck having a romantic rendezvous (or getting a good night sleep!). You can hear every movement someone makes in this place. Kitchen staff very attentive, and very sweet blonde manager (her name was Sarah, I think?) went out of her way to give us tons of awesome info on 'local' hangouts, hikes, hotspots and happenings.
CIA-trained Chef Brad is truly amazing, his breakfasts were to die for!! He is a hidden gem. Too bad the rest of the place is sliding into dirt and disrepair. Owners never bothered to make an appearance, guess they just sit in their room and count their money.

Room Tip: My Tip: Get a room at a different B&B. There are tons of beautiful dog-friendly places in this...

This gem of a B & B is commited to your comfort, relaxation and country experience. Our two pups were in heaven, they had run of the house, sat in front of the fire for hours while we read, had cocktails and relaxed in this c. 1740 charming farmhouse. We were able to leave our four legged family members sleeping in our room, while we dined out at some fabulous restaurants. Last but not least, you will be blown away by the world class breakfasts. A terrific value, an unforgetable old world experience. We will be back!!!!

Room Tip: The Suite is our favorite. Private entrance, cozy, quiet and a fabulous claw foot tub.

This was my mistake in not realizing that if you don't travel with a dog, you should not stay at Audrey's Farm House. This is a pet-accommodating specialty B & B and it has its niche. (also, I do love animals but do not travel with them.) However, if you don't travel with a dog, or if you are not wealthy, this is not for you. Our room was exceptionally small and we shared a bath with another couple, which normally would be okay, but not when the shower doesn't work. This is a 300-year-old building, so you expect some glitches, but not at $200 per night. (even more for bigger rooms with private baths.) The shower delivered water in a trickle and if anyone flushed the toilet or ran the water anywhere in the house, you were scalded. Further, on the last day there, the shower started leaking through the ceiling in one of the common rooms. We were able to get a shower that night, but mine was cold. The other couple couldn't shower. Further, we could not shower the next morning to start our day of more sightseeing and exercise. and we couldn't be more eager to check out.

The breakfasts, cooked by chef Brad, were exceptionally delicious, but were served at 9:30 a.m. That is too late for many people who want to be out and about.

If this place were $100 a night, or any credit had been given to us for the fiasco about the shower, I wouldn't have been quite as disappointed.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the L.L. Bean room. Exceptionally small. Also, very noisy from the other quests with...

This was our 4th visit to Audrey's and I just have to say how much we love it here. It is the perfect place for a weekend getaway from NYC; and I don't know who enjoys it more, my boyfriend and I or our dog? The staff is beyond friendly, and super knowledgeable of the surrounding area and all the best restaurants and pet friendly places to go (i.e wineries, hikes, shopping, etc.). It is in the perfect location, just isolated enough to feel like you are in the country, but close enough to enjoy all that attractions that the New Paltz area has to offer. The breakfasts are to die for, and the baked goods just keep flowing!

For being such an old farm house it is kept in impeccable condition, spotless clean! The grounds are constantly tended to and manage to look beautiful all year round and the house itself feels much more like a home than any inn I've ever stayed at. You are made to feel more like family than a guest, I love being able to use the kitchen, build a fire, or have a BBQ with out having to ask permission or find a staff member to do it for me...it's just right there ready for us to use as we like.

The Hot tub and the bonfire-pit is a perfect way to end a long day of hiking and wine tasting, and are wonderful touches that add an extra layer of comfort to Audrey's. The beautiful in ground pool is open during the summer months, and although I have yet to make it up during the summer, I would imagine that is is just divine to be able to cool off after a warm summer day or to escape those NY dog-day's of summer.

All in all Audrey's Farmhouse is perfect for anyone (pet owner or not) to just escape and enjoy some of the best New York has to offer....We will be back soon!

We were looking for a quick get-a-way that allowed us to bring our small dog and found the perfect spot.

They are truly pet friendly and gave us a good opportunity to socialize our pooch.

The folks here are very people friendly as well as evidenced by several guests having returned for many years.

And the breakfast - experty prepared. A very unique place to visit.
