This hotel is not a five-star New York style hotel; far from it. But if you need only the basics, this is a safe, clean and inexpensive place to stay.

The restaurant on the first floor, on the other hand, IS a five-star restaurant. The best northern Italian cusine I've ever had. I have had well over 50 meals there and they are ALWAYS fantastic. The waiters are knowledgable about food and wine and they know how to make cocktails. The bar is fully stocked with a great selection of top-shelf liquor. They have wine by the glass and by the bottle in pedestrian through gourmet labels. Simply one of the best restaurants on Long Island.

Room Tip: The owner's name is Ellie.

If you’re looking for a place to crash for a lower price than the chains on Long Island, and you don’t mind an old, out-dated place, this might be for you.

It was different than any chain hotel, that’s for sure! Not necessarily in a bad way, just different. The word “eclectic” comes to mind. Needed an inexpensive place to stay while visiting family on Long Island NY. Someone who lives there suggested the Jones Beach Hotel.

I could never find a website of it’s own for this hotel. (when I searched, I kept coming up with a site for a Jones Beach Hotel in Florida, but with a pic of the front of the L.I. hotel???) Couldn’t locate any photos online, so we sent relatives as scouts to check it out. They are picky, and said it was okay, so we booked (over the phone, no online access). In a well-populated city I normally stay at chains (Super 8, Holiday Inn, Best Western, etc.) but with the prices so high on LI, we needed a lower-cost option. This place is at the end of a street in a residential area, near the Cedar Creek Park.

Hotel in general: It’s old, but not in too bad of shape. About 75 years old from what I could gather. The stairway up to our floor sort of made you feel like you were leaning back while you were going up and we had to use the handrail. No elevator. Definitely family-run, not a chain. The front “desk” was a guy in what I’d call a booth like you’d find someone selling tickets at an old theater. The atmosphere was that of ….well, I'm not sure.

Rooms: We had 2 rooms at one end of the top floor. Furniture in ours was old and mismatched. Either it’s been there forever or they furnish by garage sale purchases. Bathrooms in both had been remodeled though, new tile, fixtures. Maybe they’re working thru the bathrooms first and then remodel the rest of the room? No phone in room.

Price: It was low cost compared to chains on the South Shore of LI. There was a discount for paying cash instead of credit. And you pay when you check in instead of when you leave which was not what I'm used to normally.

Restaurant – Per Un’Angelo – We didn’t have time to have a meal there so I can’t validate the many great reviews I read online before our stay.

All in all, it was okay for a place to sleep as we spent most of our time at family gatherings and in NYC.

We did have a couple knocking on our door at 2 am trying to get in, but I think they were just drunk & had the wrong room and didn't mean any harm. Could happen anywhere.
