“Nice place”
Reviewed 28 August 2014 via mobile

We go to the Grist Mill whenever we are in Warrensburg. We have started to sit downstairs as we love to listen to the rushing water from the screened in porch. The food is always very good. It is quite pricey however, especially if you are downstairs you are sitting on plastic chairs. We shall go back next year however as the positives far outweigh the negative

“Fine dining? More like an average diner.”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

I can appreciate the historic nature and location of the building. And, the service was friendly.

Otherwise, for $28 per entree, I was very disappointed.

The decor made the place look like the inside of the local historical society. I can overlook that.

What I can't overlook is the poor food.

To start with, a $9 glass of wine should be served in the correct glass.

The Baked Montrachet was not baked, it was slightly warmed. The red peppers and roasted garlic seemed like they came out of a jar.

The Pan Fried Crab Cake was not a nice lump of crab meat, it was more like a Krabby Patty.

The Caesar Salad should have been cut up. Do you expect people to eat whole Romaine lettuce leaves?

The Cream of Mushroom soup was served with a plastic packet of oyster crackers.

To continue the disappointment... On to the entrees. The ingredients were clearly high quality. Unfortunately, the preparation was poorly executed and uninspired.

The special trout was served over plain white rice with very little sauce. Removing all of the bones would have been appreciated. It was accompanied by steamed asparagus.

Goat cheese on Shrimp Scampi did not work. Accompanied by... steamed asparagus.

The chicken breast was fine. Served over plain white rice. Was there steamed asparagus on that plate? You bet.

The Rack of Lamb was overcooked and the breadcrumbs were so overpowering that they needed to be scraped off to taste the meat. In addition to the steamed asparagus, there were undercooked fingerling potatoes. In all fairness, our server offered to bring another entree but there was no need to prolong this dining experience.

I had high expectations and was looking forward to a good meal all week. This place really missed the mark.

“Don't miss the Grist Mill”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

We make excuses to travel through Warrensburg, just to eat dinner at the Grist Mill. The site and atmosphere are wonderful, and the food is superb. Fine sauces, wonderfully constructed plates and a great menu range. Wish it were open more days during the week, but will take what we can get. Make a reservation, and try for the tables downstairs right on the river.

Very nice restaurant on the river. Excellent food and the atmosphere is really special. Service was very good - entrees were actually served too soon - before we had finished our appetizers. All of the food was very good - fish, venison, and veal.

“Absolutely love it, will continue heading back”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

I try to go to the grist mill with my significant other at least twice a season, the food is always perfect. We tend to go there a little earlier in the evening or a little later, when it is less busy so we are able to enjoy ourselves that much more.
The food is always cooked to perfection, and the scenery is even better!
My only complaint is that they removed a menu item that I was in love with, but there are more than enough other options to keep me satisfied!
