“Five star service for three star price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2012

Great location for divers and surfers (wind & kite). The house reef and the Orca Dice Club make this Hotel one of THE spots at the Red Sea. Food, rooms, services, staff, everything resembles a five star location, except the price. And the best of all: All year sunshine with nice temperatures only five hours flight time from Central Europe. So also just a few days justify the trip to this quiet paradise.

Room Tip: Take a room with Sea View, it's just great sitting on the balcony and enjoy the view.

Lives up to all the positive reviews posted here. Orca dive center is awesome. I only stayed 4 nights so I can imagine the food gets a little monotonous after a while, but the coupon idea where you can eat in the other hotels nearby is great.
Tip: Hotels here have wised up to guests bringing their own water and drinks in from outside. We tried schlepping some in but had to leave it at reception. Not a complaint, just a heads-up.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the beach on the north side are great. Good view and far enough from the bars to b...

We came here after a week in El Gouna. Party of three single guys. Mid September.

The Kitesurf location is a bus ride away. The bus runs every 30 minutes and takes about 10 minutes to get there. The road is unsealed and therefore the bus could only travel at 5 miles an hour, otherwise the trip would take only a few minutes. The "modern" Egyptian music was a good laugh though.

The kitesurf location is quite huge, but I would only recommend it to intermediates and above as the water is deep, the wind is offshore and they charge you for every rescue !! I don't see how any beginner would be able to progress with these conditions.

The conditions were mostly 12-15 knots (12-15 metre kites). The wind was only in the morning which ended around mid day. This meant that we had to get up at 7am every morning so that we could get a good session. Obviously during a holiday, getting up at that time isn't ideal :).

The rental equipment was getting on a bit to say the least. The kites were mostly Core and Rowdy kites which looked like they had been through too many seasons. Kit was not very reliable, like pulling the safety on some bars did not work and therefore was still fully powered. My friends bar line also snapped which meant he also had to get rescued. The trims where difficult to adjust.

Some of the boards were so used that the plastic around the handles had fallen off leaving the bare rusty metal. The board obviously had been trashed and like were so bad you couldn't even sell them on ebay! The smaller boards were in better condition.

There are storage areas that cost €50 per week for your own kit with air compressors and areas to wash and dry your kit.

The kitesurf support staff and instructors who were all Egyptian and all were mostly friendly and very helpful. Nice bunch of guys.

The rooms were a good standard, albeit very small for Egyptian standards. More like a size of a typical London room.

The buffet food was just OK but we all got sick with upset stomachs most of the week. Our stay in another Egyptian resort the previous week did not give us any problems.

There are no air conditioning in any of the shared areas as they are outdoors (bar & main dinning area). The heat even at night meant that you did not want to stay outside after dinner as it was so hot and humid.

The night life is non existent, as it is more suited to couples. There is a pool table but you have to pay per hour?! Drink were not very cheap, especially cocktails, there was no happy hour.

There are 4 or so hotels nearby, the Robinsons seemed to have the best nighlife, but is a good 15 minutes walk away. The areas seems to cater for mostly German clients.

So in summary I could say I'd recommend the hotel or location. Our previous week in El Gouna was better in terms of location, hotel standard and Kitesurfing location.

We had a great time at The Breakers and would certainly go back. I spent my days between snorkeling the house reef and learning to windsurf at the Sheraton (next door, barely 5 mins walk) and my husband did his padi diving course. I joined him in some afternoon excursions and snorkeled the reef while he did his dives and found all staff on the boats and from Orca Dive friendly & helpful. Be warned though that the weather can still be cool in March; we'd bought wetsuits and lived in them! Also, there is no beach to speak of at The Breakers and no access to shallow water, so non water sport types and children would have to go to the Sheraton beach and, as other reviewers have mentioned, there are no villages, no shops etc... nearby, nothing to do apart from water sports, relax & read .... which is exactly what we wanted.

We have travelled to Soma Bay for the last 6 years, always staying at the Sheraton but diving at the Orca Dive School, which is how we came to watch this hotel being built. Last year during our holiday we went into the hotel, the staff showed us round and gave us some information. We also had a meal there which was lovely.

This June we decided to stay at the hotel because we were so impressed by what we had seen during our visit last year.

We had the most marvelous reception, welcomed like old friends, which was lovely, as we had arrived quite late, the staff took us through to the restaurant straight away to get a meal which was much appreciated and excellent.

All during our week long holiday we found all the staff eager to make sure our holiday was going okay and we had everything we needed. The room had a lovely sea view and was spotless and quite spacious not as big as "the Sheraton" but as we only sleep and shower in it we found it to be absolutely ideal.

The theme nights provided us with a great variety of different foods and we even had a beach barbeque which was good fun. Breakfasts are excellent and varied, what ever your taste you could find something to enjoy.

I have to agree with all the other reviews, it is a shame water is not provided free, it is an essential and we went through at least one large bottle a day ususally two, along with soft drinks and coffees.

As divers we spent a couple of days diving off the boats which was excellent, we have dived with Orca for several years so know we are going to have great service there. We also did several house reef dives and even after all these years the house reef never ceases to amaze me, it is wonderful.

We took advantage of the dine around voucher scheme and had a meal at the Kempinski hotel one evening and as with all hotels it was very quiet but the food was superb, it cost us over £60 on top of our voucher though so I would not recommend you do it very often, we did it out of curiosity more than anything else.

Such was our love of this wonderful hotel and it's staff we recommended it to my sister who is going in September and we have already booked our two week holiday there in October this year and we are really looking forward to going back.

The kite surfers who were in the hotel seemed to be having a great time we didn't hear anyone moaning about anything except having to pay for water, when it is supplied free at most of the other hotels.

Not a place for families with children but absolute heaven for divers and kite/wind surfers.

My friend and myself stayed for one week at the breakers. We've been enjoying the stay very very much - as their slogan sais: "Welcome home" and this is exactly how we felt. Great growd, perfect service(food, room, sport activity, transport to the airport etc.). Most enjoyable factor: very easy going atmosphere, no kids screaming - not good for families better to stay at the bigger hotels (All inclusive) - Robison or Shareton.

I went to Breakers with my son, brother and friends to kitesurf Soma Bay. The hotel is relatively small compared to the others nearby but had a much nicer feel about it. My brother was staying next door at the Sheraton but we all though Breakers was much nicer. There were a lot of Germans staying there and a few other Brits. It was a good sociable place to stay and the food was as good as anything I'd found in Egypt before. The shuttle bus takes you down to the Kite House 5 minutes away and here is an exceelent kitesurfing venue. A cool place to chilax with great wind blowing pretty much offshore. It was Easter so it was pretty crowded on the water but excellent flat water blasting. Superb rescue facilities and good storage, only let down by the lack of enough compressed air which caused queues in the morning. This place is on a par with El Gouna, probably a bit better for kiting as the sandy bottom means no shoes, whereas El Gouna requires footwear unless you are really experienced. However El Gouna has so much more to offer in terms of restaurants etc so for partners and kids chose El Gouna, but for pure kitesurfing Breakers is hard to beat.
