“Great Place to stay in”
Reviewed 1 September 2014

I spent the last week in Aug 2014 in Sheraton Soma bay with my small family (wife and two kids), we all had a great fun during our stay, and we were very pleased because of the nice behavior that the hotel staff provides, they are very helpful, friendly and cooperative especially the front desk, restaurant, pool & the water sports center staff.
The Location & Sheraton contributed in providing a great vacation.
Thank you

We have been traveling to the Red Sea for over 20 years. This place is by far the best we stayed at. It has the longest beach that occupies most of the Soma bay. We were there during high season and still we never felt the beach was crowded. Snorkeling was heavenly. The reef is almost virgin and has a numerous variety of fish.
Our package was all inclusive, including soft drinks. We never had to walk around with wallets for the whole five days. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. They go out of their way to help you.
I can't think of a negative remark (May be the hotel is too big with long hallways)
We will definitely go back over and over again!

It is the worst 5 stars hotel I've stayed in through my entire life!

The shock started upon Check in, we booked 5 sea view rooms for two nights by phone way ahead of time because it was Eid and we knew it will be a busy time. In the phone communication, 2 prices were mentioned one for the garden view rooms and one for the sea view rooms. When we arrived we were told that we booked partial sea view rooms and in order to have full sea view rooms we need to pay more (apparently they did this with all people who checked in at the time because they decided to increase the rate after people already booked). When we told them that this isn't the case, that they can check the recorded calls that they never mentioned a third price for the full sea view rooms and asked to speak to the manager they apologized and upgraded 3 of our rooms to suites.

Ours was a garden view junior suite, which actually was nothing close to a garden and more to a desert view with 2 trees! The room itself was spacious with outdated furniture, there was a living room with a TV set and a bedroom with a TV and a large bathroom. The corridors leading to the room smelled like a public bathroom most of the time, and the ceiling had holes and you could see the pipes draining into a bucket placed on the floor! The place was so outdated and needs serious renovations.

We never received an orientation to the facilities so we had to figure things out for ourselves. We found a note next to the pool saying that the full body swimwear was not allowed in the pool and was only allowed on the beach. However, 90% of the women in the pool were wearing ones and some even with clothes and no one said anything to them. The pool itself looked okay but the towels looked like old rags. They were dirty, torn and washed out!

The food was less than average, especially the lunch buffet with 5 options maximum. And what sickened me the most is that they recycled the food, for example if during dinner there was mini burgers you would see them again the next day during breakfast! And if during lunch there was chicken with rosemary you would see it again at dinner. They even had a separate section for the leftovers - seriously what kind of a 5 stars hotel does that! We were told by the staff that the restaurant by the pool usually offers a la carte lunch and snacks for the all inclusive guests (which we were), however management decided that it's now only opened for foreigners and that Egyptians only get to have lunch at the main restaurant!

The only good thing about this hotel was George in the pool bar, he was so friendly and did everything he could to cater everyone even though he was overloaded with orders. Some of the restaurant servers were really attentive while others were very ignorant.

One last thing, on the day of checking out we were half packed and left some clothes on the bed to go for breakfast. When we came back, we found the room cleaned by the housekeeping (which is strange considering that we were leaving) and that they put the clothes in my suitcase and my hand bag that were in the room! Since when do housekeeping members go through your stuff even if they had good intentions! We checked the safe and our belongings, nothing was missing but our privacy was totally invaded!

Our stay was such a waste of money and we had a terrible experience. Go somewhere else if you want to enjoy your time.

The hotel is very nice. Staff is very cheerful, friendly and helpful. Mr. Hamada on the front desk is a great guy. The room was capacious clean. Room service were excellent. Food in the main restaurant was delicious with lots of varieties (except for the Far East theme.....I didn't like at all). Dessert buffet wasn't good enough. The beach is extensive yet water is extremely shallow.....perfect for kids. My kids loved the banana boat, playing ping pong and pool. Hijab Swiming suit is allowed in pool and on the beach. I really recommend this hotel for families.
