After 10 days' hectic sightseeing (Nile cruise, followed by 3 days in Cairo), there is no better place to completely wind down and relax at the end of a varied trip to Egypt. This was my second visit after a 10-year interlude, my first visit having impressed me so much I could think of nowhere else to go for the last few days of our holiday. The architecture and layout of the hotel blend in beautifully with the landscape, whilst providing every comfort and convenience for the guests. Even the satellite dish providing a wide variety of TV programs was disguised at the top of a very tall but artificial palm tree. The hotel is situated about 8kms from the rather unprepossessing town of El Quseir, where the recently restored fort and the El Quseir Hotel converted from a lovely old merchant's house were the only places worth visiting that we could find, though there are a good selection of souvenir shops. The Movenpick is run with a very ecological ethic, and is spotlessly clean - both very welcome after the pollution and rubbish-strewn streets of Cairo. With its own coral reef, diving and snorkelling are the main activities, but a wide variety of others are on offer. The food is so varied and so plentiful that we did not feel any need to eat beyond the expansive buffets of breakfast and dinner, apart from sampling the delicious Movenpick ice creams every afternoon. Warning - this is not a hotel for party-goers, heavy-drinkers, disco dancers or those who like loud music. It is extremely quiet after about 10pm. But for young families, older couples, keen divers of all ages and those just wishing to relax in a beautiful setting , it is hard to beat this lovely hotel. We shall return!
