Sunday brunch at the colonial-style mansion Chateau Mon Desir. Food was excellent and outstanding. Staff was very courteous and attentive. Very nice ambiance with live piano player in the background. Any specific songs you wanted to hear while enjoying the meal, you could ask for. A place to go!

“Michelin star level dining”

We visited the Chateau twice during our holiday and had a superb meal on both occasions. The waiting staff were super professional yet managed to be charming at the same time. The wine list was extensive (although due for an overhaul I believe) and the quality of the food was the best we have experienced in all the many visits we have made to the island over the years. The investment in a 3star rated Michelin chef to overhaul the menu and provide culinary expertise is very evident. The setting is glorious and the prices no higher (possibly lower) that you would pay for an evening meal in any of the local 5 star hotels. The only slight niggle we had was that smokers were using the outside terrace whilst we were eating on the upper deck so that we were inhaling smoke from time to time. Maybe something the Management could resolve by creating a more appropriate place for smokers?

“Lovely”

We were staying in the hotel the restaurant is attached to. This restaurant is one of the best I've ever eaten in. The food is outstanding and the staff very attentive and friendly. We ate there twice during our stay and found each experience to be fantastic. If I ever find myself back in Mauritius, I'm going back here again!

“sunday brunch”

We ate here for the Sunday brunch. The choice of food was excellent and you could have some specific cooked food from the menu and additionally you could eat from the buffet. The atmosphere is very calming, we did not get rushed and we had the table from 11am and we left around 2.30. During all this time the waiter ensured we were looked after. We chose the brunch session as during the evening it is very formal and the menu is from their ala carte choice. If staying at the Maratim hotel you will need to pay a supplement if you are on an all inclusive deal to eat here. I also attended a great activity; we were able to go to the kitchen and help cook a Mauritian meal and then got to eat this in the restaurant. Well worth doing this.

“Superb”

Been here three times whilst staying at the Maratim hotel of which it is part.

We used the hotels Gourmet Pass which costs approx £130 for two people to eat 3 times so only about £45 per meal, and you get to have your AI drinks so no additional cost. I have seen reviews where people complain about paying £200 a head, but clearly they didn't need to spend that amount had they simply bought the pass.

Now down tot the place itself, wonderful setting amongst the ruins, great views from atop the hill over them.

French chateau style setting, all silver service stuff, very high class.

It starts with an amuse bouche from the chef, and warm breads with 3 different butters.

I had one of the cheapest starters on the menu (mushroom soup with Champagne cream), for no other reason than it was the best soup I have ever tasted. My wife loved the lobster bisque, but the other starters we had were all excellent too.

Between the three meals we had the duck, the veal, the beef Wellington, and all were excellent. I think my favourite was the veal as it was as soft as anything and tasted wonderful.

Desserts were good too, and quite substantial (don't get too full on the bread they keep offering you).

You must have a coffee so you get the little petit fours, three (each) delightful cakes/biscuits, a lovely end to the meal.

So in summary, buy the Gourmet Pass and you can have nearly everything on the menu, with all your drinks covered (if a guest of the Maratim), you will not regret it.
