I visited Mauritius with my Fiance in March 2011 and booked the Maritim after searching online for "the best hotel in Mauritius". I had read a few of the reviews about the hotel (I always start with the bad ones) after booking and was happy that we had picked a good hotel. When we arrived I can only describe a feeling of utter joy at the place. We were greeted at the entrance of the hotel, our bags taken away by the concierge (only to be seen again once we arrived in our room), we were given a welcome drink, a cold towel and asked to sit down in the reception area. there was no standing at reception to check in, the whole process set the tone for the most relaxing holiday ever...! Once we had checked in (our room was available at 1030hrs) we were escorted to our room, given a brief introduction and left to savour the environment (we had a privilege room which was definitely worth the small extra charge).
We had an all inclusive package which commenced at lunch on the day of arrival so we set off in search of somewhere to eat. As it turned out most days we ate lunch at La Maree (beach restaurant) which had a more than adequate AI lunch menu. Breakfast was taken every day at the Belle Vue (main AI restaurant) which had an excellent selection of produce and more food than I challenge anyone to eat. Dinner most evenings was a theme night at Belle Vue which again had great choice and good quality (probably good pub food level) food. We drank a bottle of wine each night which was included on the AI package. One evening (Thursday) we dined at La Maree for the 'fisherman's menu' - this was simply amazing. My fiance booked a table and we had candles laid out, service more akin to a top London restaurant than a holiday resort and a seafood platter to die for. All this while sat on the beach with a lightening storm out in the ocean - a truly memorable night (it has to be said that the waitress, Ishwaree made the evening with her service). We left a tip (not huge by UK standards) and for the rest of the week were treated like royalty (we had an ice bucket for sparkling water at lunch!). In terms of the facilities we used we water skied, sailed (Laser and Hobie), we snorkelled off the beach and boat, all of which were part of the AI package. We also paid for a riding lesson and a ride along the beach at 9am on horseback, this was less than £20 for an hour and absolutely worth every penny.
Overall the holiday was the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. As a rule we normally do not do beach or AI holidays and were a little sceptic, however this was better than we could ever have imagined, in 8 days we didn't even leave the hotel!

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We are already planning a trip back in December!

The Maritim is a good hotel in beautiful location. After reading previous reviews about the hotel and making our booking based on these we had a peaceful holiday with little complaint. The all inclusive package is confusing at first and the only dinning AI option is buffet every night although a very small allowance is given 400R for la maree an average evening meal is 2500R and 1000R allowance for the fine dinning resturant with an average meal for two around 7000R inc wine. These are points you need to factor in to your holiday cost if eating buffet every evening is not for you. Drinks served at the bars are non branded but for mixing up in your cocktails they are more than exceptable. Golf club hire is 1300R for a nine hole par 3 course that is not maintained that great and the clubs are of poor quality and not maintained.

This sounds quite negative but the standard of the hotel is very good the food in La Maree and the Chataue Mon Desire was first class and the staff at both locations were a credit to the hotel.

In summary read all the reviews, take the "extras" in to account and have a relaxing holiday at the Maritim

My wife and recently travelled to the island of Mauritius and all I can say is "Paradise haven" We had tied the knot the 5th February and all the pictures and recommendations were spot on ... From the second we arrived we had been welcomed like King and Queen and even upon our departure we were sent off with a smile. First impressions of the island was really great and when we pulled up to the Maritim gates, all our dreams came true.

The check in process was smooth and warm and the reception at the hotel, World Class. My wife and I want to thank the staff for such professional and friendly service, we loved the people. The famous island saying "no worries" was lived through out the week and even today we echo the saying. The hotel and rooms are highly recommendable and all the amenities are at your finger tips. Nisha Soorjun you are a SUPER STAR and without you we would have been lost. Thank you for all your recommendations and suggestions, we loved every moment and would not have done anything differently. The staff especially, Dave at the quarter deck was AWESOME too, his friendliness and suggestions around the island rum was great!

The hotel is very big, but you never felt crowded. It is evident that the hotel caters for a different market because there was only dancing entertainment on the Friday night, so if you are looking for something a bit more quiet and relaxed, Maritim is the place to be. Should you go to Maritim, make sure you treat yourself at the spa and go for dinner at Chateau Mon Desir which is a fine dining experience on the premises, overlooking the ruins of Balaclava.

Overall the island of Mauritius and Maritim hotel will see us again and we recommend anyone who wants to journey there. Thank you for making our stay so memorable and to all the staff at Maritim, thank you!

We stayed at the Maritim for our 7day honeymoon, on AI. 9-16 Feb 2011.
Our limited budget meant we got the "Delux" room 446.

Arrival: Friendly and quick, less than half an hour wait for our room and a complimentary drink and refresher towel.

Room had been decorated with 2 swans and petals, 2 free shirts, slippers, place-mats,candles and a fruit basket with champagne. A free candle-lit dinner at Chateau and R400 Credit at La Maree restaurants.
We did indeed have a see view as all rooms advertised say they do.
Our rooms' decor was slightly old-fashioned and small, but we were not really bothered about it, as you have the beautiful sea to go to!
Our bathroom lights, shower handle, extractor fan and patio door handle broke, but all were repaired within half an hour, except the extractor, which was still not functioning by the end of our stay.
The complimentary coffee, tea and bottled water was a welcome treat! - as well as a 4-o-clock snack plate which is left in your room on random days.
Bed and pillows are so comfy and King size!
Free WIFI is an added benefit and the connection is super fast! -take your laptop!
Plugs in rooms are both round 2-pin and British square 3 prong.
Tube tv and selected satellite channels.
New Testament Bible in drawer:)
Mozzie repelant plug -in.
Hairdryer available.

Belle Vue> Buffet restaurant, All breakfast, lunch & dinner & drinks on AI are included.
Every morning is the same selection, but a wide variety! Try pancakes with chocolate sauce and coconut.
Lunch is mediocre but we ate at the other restaurants for a change.
Beware of "prime" spots next to the pool or ocean view, as you will have to contend with the flies and birds, waving your hands around like mad people, just to get through a meal.
Dinner> Dress is strictly smart (no shorts, sandals, or costumes) and is such a lovely atmosphere with a different theme every night including decor and interesting food/ice sculptures. The Indian and French cuisine is the best!
The chefs at the live cooking stations are fantastic and lively!
Waiters are excellent.
There is a lot of variety and each item of food is well prepared.
Unfortunately nothing really special was done for valentines day, but we made our own evening special!
Do however take precautionary measure for deli belly!

Quarter deck bar> relaxed atmosphere overlooking the sparkling pool is a refreshing change to the buffet style restaurant, only early bird (4am) breakfast and lunch served to AI guests from a small menu.
Nightly entertainment consists of a live band doing cover-versions.

La Maree' beach bar and restaurant> Highly recommended! Tables right on the beach, meters from the waves! Do try the 'Paie en Que' (Bird of paradise mocktail) . AI menu limited to 3 items a la carte and 2 deserts.

Chateau Mon Desir> Dress elegant and expect fine dining, ma'dame!
Our menu consisted of 8 courses and were delectable! Only downside was the cost of almost R500 for water and a glass of Rose'. Then again it is an experience..

Beach> Well maintained (literally have beach-sweepers), lovely swimming and snorkeling beach with white sands, crystal clear water and very little coral.- in contrast to the other hotels alongside it, looked like the only "swimmable" beach.

Beach service> Slow but worth it!
Beach and pool towels available and a library.

Beach peddlers/hawkers/salesmen> Watch out for these men, make sure your 'no' is clearly 'no' or you may end up in an altercation, as we did with ' Robinhood' who was infuriated at the fact that I had bought goods in town for a cheaper price than he had offered, and called the security guard to come talk to us, as he said we had made a deal with him and lied about prices. They will generally say everything they sell(shirts, pareos, handbags) is over R1000, but in town you can get the exact same thing for around R350. I understand they make a living, but their attitude will turn 160" once you decline them. (Take advantage of the hotels special taxi return rate R350 at 10am for Grand Baie, which is also a lot cheaper of the usual price +-R1650 )

30 Min Beach massage= Worth it! R880 everyday from 1-3pm.
Flower spa> stunning decor and tranquil environment, lovely staff and hygienic bathrooms!

Water-sports> All sports are included and a daily list of activities keeps one entertained!
Glass bottom boat: water ski: snorkeling trip: free diving lessons: kayak :pedal boats and hoby cats and lasers, all free!
other activities include Power walks:Kinesis:Tennis:Archery: Info walk: Boccia: mini golf, pilates:aqua gym:crocket: taichi etc..

The ruins of Balaclava are breathtaking- a definite must see and so romantic!

Take a 4/8gig memory stick because there's so much to see!
Take a laptop.
Would definitely recommend AI, and the system is different, no tacky hierarchical arm bracelets, only a cheque/bill is brought to the table to sign off.
Get a better room!
Take lots of spending money!
Take lots of suntan lotion and mozzie spray!

A big thank you to: Ivin, Oozeeraully, Muntasir, Chaya, Meghdut and the rest of the Maritim team who made our honeymoon so special!

Once you cross the main gate of the hotel, you start feeling the cool. The cool breeze amidst the green avenue that leads you towards the reception. The greatest attraction of the hotel is its all over landscape which is perfectly maintained. The reception welcomes you with a fresh fruit juice that quenches your thirst of walking along the parking area.
You need to go few steps down to have your sumptuous breakfast just beside a beautiful water body. The rooms are basic and nothing very different from other star hotels, though the complimentary fruit basket is really fresh.
The conference facilities are scattered amidst the green that gives you pure air during your work. Constant service of battery driven shuttles keeps you mobile from one corner to the other corner of this huge property.
The gym facility is good, but it is better to have a gentle walk or smooth cycling around the lush green boundary of the property.
Various cuisines are offered during lunch and dinner, though the best option is the remote (you need to walk half a kilometer to reach that place) open-air sea-facing dining along with traditional music.
The only concern is, the property, though not very far from the city center Port Louis, yet difficult to access as it is not located very conveniently, pretty off the main route.
Overall it is a good feel amidst the lush green and fresh air.

Our fourth consecutive stay at this hotel. We were so glad we returned as we were not sure we would return again after we went back when the hotel re-opened after it was refurbished. It seemed to have lost it's way a bit from previous years.

We arrived at 8.30am, and were treated like VIP's. After checking in we were taken to the beach restaurant to have breakfast, as our room was not ready. At 10.30am the reservation manager ( who was newly appointed to the hotel- sorry cannot remember her name but, she had excellent customer skills) came to escort us to our room and asked were we happy with the room. And were we happy, it was a very large room with a four poster bed, beautiful decor and a bathroom to die for. The view from the balcony was over looking the sea and the well cared for gardens. As a wecome back gesture the hotel left fruit, wine.sarong and casual shirt for my husband-what a fabulous welcome back.
The food was good. The bands that entertained us in the evening were very good. Yes the service at dinner and at the bar was better some nights than others due to some staff being new to the job but , not so that it would spoil the holiday.
Poolside service was excellent the best we have ever had.
Beach service was crap (not restaurant) not once were we asked would we like a drink on the days were spent at the beach. We had to go and get our own drinks from the beach bar.
There are lots of activities going on at the hotel if you want them and lots of water sports to choose from.
Staff on front desk are very good at resolving any issues that you may have whilst staying at the hotel, just remember to treat them as you would wish to be treated. Some holiday makers get above themselves at times and can be very rude.

My following comments are for the hotel to consider for the future:
Relax more on what is all inclusive as far menu and bar is concerned as it is not chaep to stay at the Maritim
The service at dinner was all buffet this year and no fine dining like there had been in previous years, should that not reflect as to lower prices for us holiday makers as you are employing lesser staff.
Treatments at the spa are good but far to expensive.
Free spa treatments for returning clients.

We think that the staff are a credit to the Maritim hotel and made our stay very pleasent.
We hope to be able to return again Jan 2012.
If you are a previous clients who were not happy on your return after refirbishment give the Maritim another try you may be pleasantly surprised
