The Maritim is absolutely stunning. Set in spacious grounds, there is variety of things to do from seeing the giant tortoises, walking in beautiful grounds with waterfalls and some ruins, as well as a beautiful sandy beach and the lovely blue ocean!
The staff are very friendly and helpful. ( they don't accept tips- but you can leave some in an envelope at the end of your stay!)
We went with Virgin holidays, however advice from hotel staff and renting a car via the hotel was much much cheaper. ( desk located upstairs above reception)
We hired a car and drove for 2 days, however when i left my parents hired a driver with the car. I would definitely advise this as road signs weren't great and although we managed to see most things we planned, it would have been easier with a driver. ( its only about 10 British pounds more with a driver for the day so well worth it).
There is a lot to do and see in Mauritius, but if you have just gone for a restful break, you do not need to leave the hotel.
Food- this is very good- best I have had when abroad ( and i travel a lot!) - breakfasts have a huge range of food from indian breakfasts, cereals, yoghurts, muesli, breads, cheeses and meats as well as eggs ( whichever way you want them!) , pancakes freshly made and waffles and french toast all made in front of you. Selection of juices as well as tea and coffee brought to your table.
Lunches are buffet style, or on the beach- again plenty of choice.
Dinner- there is the main buffet which has a theme every night as well as the beach restaurant and fine dining restaurant. All the food is great.
If you don't want lunch but feel peckish later there is a bar serving pancakes and pastries, tea, coffee etc from 4pm.
All inclusive is a good option as you get a range of drinks included ( including cocktails and fresh coconuts)
The hotel itself has spacious rooms, with tvs and a massive bed! hotel rooms cleaned to a very high standard daily.
Evening entertainment is good and varies every night- it is only 30 minutes so not too long and not boring. It varied over the 2 weeks so not repetitive.
Watersports were good, however it is not great for snorkeling so if that is what you are going for, you may be disappointed.
Staff were so helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble for them.
In particular- the chef Mr Zakir in the main buffet restaurant was very very helpful as was Mr Ramjug and Chaaya ( i think thats her name!) Mr Deven remembered exactly how mum likes her tea every morning and this personalised service was outstanding. Mr Sanjay in reception is great for organizing your picnic lunches if you are out for the day but all staff were lovely- those are just a few of the names I remember.
The spa, jacuzzi etc are also a relaxing way to unwind at the end of a day out!
I never thought I would want to go back to Mauritius as I like to go to different countries but I would definitley go back to Mauritius to stay at the Maritim.

We stayed at the Maritim for our honeymoon for 9 nights in June. Located in Balaclava area on the West coast, we choose this location to be away from the main tourist area and close to Port Louis. This hotel has the Oberoi and Intercontinental on each side so this is a top notch location, but does not have any additional local restaurants near the hotel that you can walk to - all attractions are within driving distance. The hotel grounds are stunning. You can walk through the gardens and ruins to the waterfalls by the river, or along the beach past the other hotels to get a view of the sun setting over the stunning rocks and over to Port Louis.
We decided to take the all inclusive option due to what we knew about the local area and as the package sounded good. We have stayed all inclusive before, but it is not our first choice, however, this hotel and the package for all inclusive was superb.
The hotel was exceptionally clean - all the toilets and showers in the communal areas were constantly cleaned throughout the day. Our room was always cleaned and then had a turn down service which gave additional towels and water when required. If you are all inclusive, then most of the drinks in the mini bar are included in your package!!
The hotel has a European feel, due to the number and mix of European people staying at the hotel. The staff at the Maritim are local, all speak English and many other languages. The staff here are amazing. The service from everyone from Reception to the cleaning and maintenance staff is exceptional. The hotel asks you not to tip directly to the hotel staff and we were not pestered by staff waiting for tips, but you can give tips at the end of the holiday to specific people via the tip box which we did.
Room - we had a prestige room, which had ample space. It was a room that had not yet been refurbished, but everything was perfect in the room. Big room with plenty of space and a balcony and amazing bathroom.
Food - we ate at all the restaurants. The al a carte restaurant we felt was over rated and expensive for the food. We had a complimentary meal which was lovely, but we were charged £5 for a bottle of water - not the end of the world, but worth noting that the drinks were not part of the all inclusive option.
The main restaurant and bar is excellent. Breakfast, lunch and dinner options are plentiful and excellent quality - you should always be able to find fresh, quality food for anyone's taste. We thought the Mauritian buffet evening was superb. We know a lot of other people went hungry that night, but the local cuisine is delicious, not spicy and brilliant if you are a vegetarian. If you do stay here and think you only like 'English' food, try the international food here - it will change your mind!
The beach restaurant - La Meree is amazing! The lunch menu is part of the all inclusive package and you can have steak, pasta, salads all amazing quality and with impeccable service.
The beach service is brilliant. Considering the number of people the staff have to look after each day, the service is top notch.
Activities - most of these are included in the package but the hotel will try to book certain activities on certain days so be aware that you may need to be flexible on when you want to do things. Archery, horse riding, mini golf and golf are all brilliant.
The spa is top quality - the best hotel spa we have ever been to. It may be expensive, but booking a treatment here really is a special treat. The sauna, steam and pool area are all open to all inclusive hotel guests to use free of charge.
We spent all our time on the beach and not at the pool. There is coral in the sea so take care in the water.
Overall this was an amazing hotel. I know people will think we say this as it was a honeymoon, but the hotel location and staff made the trip extra special.
I would advise people to get out of the hotel if they can and go the surrounding areas as there are lots of beautiful places around the island.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have been updated - but the ones that are yet to undergo refurbishment are still a...

We stayed here in september last year for our honeymoon. The hotel is amazing, really clean and there was always aunbeds that you can get, no need to get up at 7. The sunbeds are like beds themselves, very comfy.

The cocktails are amazing! The only thing I feel that let this hotel down a bit was the buffet. It's quite small so not much choice if your fussy. Dined at both the other restaurants which aren't included on the all inclusive. The fish restaurant on the beach is lovely, went for the lobster night and it was well worth the money. They set a private table on the beach and had a band playing. The other restaurant up the top was good too. We got it for free as it was our honeymoon, not sure I would have paid the high price for it but it was still lovely.

Also went horseriding while there as they have their own stable. Lovely riding along the beach.

All in all I'd say this was a good hotel although the all inclusive not the best I've been too.

My husband & I had a wonderfully relaxing holiday, just the sound of the waves & bird song.
Staff were incredibly friendly & helpful.
Apparently the only thing that could be considered a fault was that the tea was not great, but we would go back to Mauritius tomorrow & would be happy to stay here again

Room Tip: we were on the ground floor & were more than happy

We had a great stay and were well looked after. We advised the management at the start of our stay that we are vegetarians and we were well catered. After having checked the daily menu, if we did not like the choice, one of the many chefs would prepare extra meals for us which were really tasty and plentiful, from Indian to fab pastas, no complaints, the chefs were very helpful and great.
Deven in the main restaurant made sure we were OK, Owemee in the Bar and Deepak at horse riding, overall all the staff were friendly. There is a great selection of cocktails and the live singers and entertainers were really good

Room Tip: first floor rooms were nice and quiet.

We are leaving today after 12 nights here on honeymoon. Unfortunately received no upgrade on arrival as seems to be the norm for others so that was disappointing and also had to change privilege rooms from a very musty and dated 104.
An excellent maintenance team, the grounds are very well looked after and the service is good, plenty of staff and wait for drinks not at all bad.
Food gets a little tiring on AI but it is fine. Chateaux Mon Desire gets a mention but only for its ridiculous drinks pricing! We saw the wine list with Spanish table wine favourite Vina Sol Sem Chard for over £40 a bottle, retailing in UK for £4...Also worthy of mention is a Jacobs Creek at around £45..!! Mental. But we bought one anyway, a basic Sauvignon at almost £50. Ah well, on holiday.
All in all, an expensive holiday but we found little to complain about. Very comfortable rooms, good service, brilliant upkeep and we had decent weather to boot.
