Myself and my wife took a holiday here in December 2013, we arrived after a long flight from Birmingham including a 3 hour changeover in Dubai and we were tired, we were impressed by the magnificent drive from the gates the reception was very open and welcoming, on arrival we were met and given towels to refresh and a very welcome drink, the lady explained all there was to know about the Maritim including the dining arrangements, but we were not really taking it in. What we found out during our stay was dependant on what room you are staying in regardless of AI, you were only allowed to eat in certain restaurants, for me I found this hard to understand and a bit misleading as I had booked AI and was of the opinion we should be able to use any of the places to eat (apart from the restaurant châteaux by the front gate) they did encourage us to purchase a gourmet pass which did allow dining elsewhere on site, but at £60 per person on could only use it three times I thought this was a bit of a cheek. To be honest the food in the main restaurant was excellent it can be a bit repetitive after two weeks, but I always found something to eat, they have theme nights and the Asian night was excellent, the staff as mentioned in many other reviews are the Maritim's greatest strength they are so friendly and helpful and make the guests feel really special. The rooms are spacious and well equipped and kept impeccable clean, the grounds are fantastic, the pool's are great and joined together under a wooden bridge near the bar area, the main beach is very good, but the beds closer to the hotel are taken very early on, we found that if you wanted a bed on the beach you would need to go virtually to the end but the wooden jetty, however we preferred this as it was quieter, there is a beach service which was excellent, when the staff get to know your drink preference they will generally bring it over as you settle (Thanks Jaffar you were excellent) the sea is calm for swimming but there is some bits of coral about under foot. Other guests have mentioned TA that they operate a system where people can't put towels on beds either by the pool or beach for longer than an hour, maybe it only operates in the busy season as I never saw it take place and some people left towels on beds all day on the beach. There is a small hut the get towels changed on route to the beach. There is a small golf course can't comment as I never used it, there is also an equestrian centre again never tried it, but saw people riding horses around and in the sea. The gym is one of the better equipped centres I have been to whilst abroad, a selection of resistance machines and dumbbells, along with static bikes, joggers, and X trainers all in an air conditioned room, we used it every night and it was never crowded, there are also small gym towels supplied. We walked up to the ruins at Balaclava in the evening. Also took a taxi into Port Louis for a bit of retail therapy, very hustle and bustle. We also took a trip on a boat only part of the island to the water falls. We saw quite a few weddings whilst there.
Overall we enjoyed our holiday in Mauritius and would recommend the Maritim, the issues around the dining was a small disappointment, but the staff make everyone feel special.

Room Tip: Wifi is not great as the coverage is not that great everywhere.

This was our first visit to Mauritius and we were not disappointed. The hotel is lovely set in extensive private grounds, including the ruins of Balaclava. everywhere was spotlessly clean and well maintained. All the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for their guests, ensuring that they provide them with the best possible holiday experience. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. If you did have a problem the communications staff were always available and easily found.

My children are aged 10 and 11 and there was lots of things for them to do (water skiing, snorkelling, kayaking etc). My son enjoyed the Turtle Club and would ask to go along most days. The staff running the club were lovely and kept the children on the go constantly. The water balloon volley ball was a big success. They even organised an evening beach BBQ / disco for all the children one night, the food was amazing especially the fruit sculptures.
The stables are clean and well maintained and the horses really appreciate the odd apple. The 3 guys who run the stables are very friendly and obviously love their horses. My daughter who had never ridden a horse before decided to take a course of lessons. These were very reasonably priced (about £10 for a 45min 1 to 1 lesson) she rode on the beach several times and even went swimming with her horse. A big thanks to her trainer Desire (sorry if it's spelt wrong) he was very patient with her and a very good teacher.

The Belle Vue is a themed buffet style restaurant and changes it's menu daily. We ate their a couple of times and the food was fine with lots of choice. It does get busy, so if you want to sit down straight away it's best to go 6.30 - 7.00. We mainly ate La Maree which is set on the beach. We had breakfast there most days which was included in our Prestige room package, although it doesn't have the same amount of choices as the Belle Vue, the setting was much nicer. They have a set menu on the evening which is included in the AI or you can eat off the al carte using your 750 credits. All the staff in the La Maree were very polite, attentive and great with the kids but a special thanks to Rashin who makes some of the best cocktails. We purchased a gourmet pass which cost about £120 for 2 people and covers 3 meals each. It is well worth it if you wish to eat at the Chateau as it covers many of the items on the menu including wine.

During the day we favoured the beach rather than the pool, as the pool got very busy And crowded. There was plenty of sun beds on the beach and you could always get one no matter what time of day you turned up. The beach servers are very attentive, friendly and helpful. They were always around ready to take your food and drinks orders. A special mention to Yoshine who kept us supplied with cold water, fruit cocktails and a cold beer in the afternoon.

The hotel has an on site nurse and first aid centre. My daughter had a minor accident and the medical team dealt with it immediately. The nurse was lovely she calmed my daughter down and made her feel at ease.

Overall a wonderful holiday and we would definently return to this hotel.

It was my first trip back to Mauritius after living in Canada for 8 years. I have had the opportunities to go to some all-inclusive 5 stars resorts in the Caribbean, so it was an excellent chance for me to see how Mauritian hotels are doing relatively.

From Port-Louis, the drive is around 20 min. Mostly motorway until you reach the smaller roads leading to the hotel. From the airport, I would assume it to be around 40 min depending on traffic. Check-in was straight forward. While they processed our paperwork, we had an employee go through the different restaurants with us. We got our rooms right away.

Room is spacious. The bed was quite comfortable. We were welcomed with a fruit basket which was a nice touch. Mini fridge was well stocked. The view was great (we got the ocean view) and the walls are quite thick. I could only hear my neighbours when they would leave their room. It had great lounge chairs on the patio. Bathroom was well equipped.

The grounds of the hotel is amazing. There is a right balance between beach and nature. The sand is great - not too rocky. If you have sensitive skin, I would still recommend water shoes. But for the most part, it is soft. Water is clear. This hotel obviously has committed themselves to having clean and beautiful gardens. Loved the fruit trees and how everything was labelled. Great afternoon walk in the gardens. If you stop by their restaurant by the entrance, you can go on the grounds and check out the ruins. Big plus was the turtle sanctuary. Amazing to see them up close.

Activities were lacking a bit - it was very quiet during the day. In some hotels I have been, they have an entertainment team to get people playing beach volley etc. If you are the party, loud music, drinking type, I would not recommend this hotel. It was ideal for families and couples. We did more of the water activities - kayak was awesome. You had the option of kayaking in the sea or in their lake. Both gorgeous views. Water skiing was fun. We also went on the snorkelling trip on our last day. The sea was a bit rough, but we got to see cool fish.

We did buffets for the 2 nights we were there. The french theme was okay. The mediterranean one was amazing. We picked buffets mostly because we knew there was a bigger chance of everyone finding something they liked and that came out true. For lunch, we went to the BBQ on the last day. That was fun and the variety was good. We stopped at la maree for the sit down lunch and that one was a bit disappointing.

Night entertainment was simple. You could sit by their bonfire while they had small group of singers.

For the price that we paid, I think it was worth it. Bear in mind that we went there during low season - not an excuse for lower standards - but we understood that due to the lack of visitors, they may not have gone all out to impress. The people were very nice - always a smile on their face and saying hello when passing by.

EXCEPT:
Limited and repetitive food for vegetarian.
Awful Kids club. No proper organisation and no technological games. Kids were quite bored.

A very nice hotel in a beautifully sheltered sandy bay location on the north west coast of Mauritius where you can watch the sun set every evening.  I think the hotel has been going for over 20 years but it doesn't show too many signs of being dated (probably due to regular upgrades etc).

Positives:
1.  The setting: set in 25 hectares (about 62 acres) of very nicely manicured grounds, including a nine hole golf course, stables etc. and a stunning beach location overlooking Turtle Bay.

2. Rooms: we had the "Privilege" room - pretty spacious with a very large bed and good sized bathroom with two wash basins, separate shower and bath (& toilet in a separate room off the bathroom).  Perfect for two people for a week - maybe a little claustrophobic for longer?

3. Service: overall, excellent!

4. La Maree Beach Restaurant: this restaurant is right on the beach where you can sit at a table either on the sand or on wooden decking. Not all the food is in the All Inclusive package, but every day for lunch & dinner there in a set menu (with 3 options for each course) in the All Inclusive.  We ate there 4 times and never had a bad experience.  The food is a notch up from what you get in the main "Belle Vue" buffet restaurant and it's a stunning spot to sit for lunch overlooking the beach (- but bear in mind that it will be dark by dinner, but still very nice). Highly recommended!

Not so Positive:
1. Wine: the wine provided in the All Inclusive package is truly awful!  Come on management - this is supposed to be a 5-Star hotel! The wine on offer devalues your whole All Inclusive product. It would certainly make me seriously consider the value of an All Inclusive package in future (or even staying at a hotel which offers All Inclusive). There are 5 still wines of each type (red/white/rose) on offer - all non-vintage stuff from South Africa.  These are very similar to the the bottle you get free from your local Indian restaurant in the UK when you spend over £25 on a takeaway. You would struggle to buy anything this poor in a UK supermarket.

2. We had a poor experience in "Le Banyan Asian Fusion" restaurant.  Bearing in mind that you pay a significant additional premium to eat here, the food and service should be to a higher standard. It wasn't!  Firstly the service was poor - after one hour & twenty minutes we had still just had our starters (and the restaurant wasn't busy). Then when we queried the delay, our waiter made a very pointed comment (intended as a put down) along the lines of "it's a la carte you know, it takes time to cook from scratch". When the food arrived it was mediocre at best - for example both of our main courses had cold vegetables which appeared to have been cooked in advance. We weren't interested in staying for deserts after that. I explained the situation to the Head Waiter and to be fair he probably handled it as well as he could under the circumstances - he charged us for the bottle of wine but not for the food.  Full marks for a good response (- although we'd rather have had an enjoyable meal).

We stayed at the hotel on the 19th July for my birthday on the following day. While reserving, we requested for a late chek-out and they said it would depend on the availability. We checked in at about 19h and requested for a late check-out. We were refused on the spot and we even requested to have another room for a late chek-out but the answer was a big NO! At no point did we feel anyone made the slightest effort to help. The porter offered to carry our luggage to the room but the receptionist told him not to. We have been in different hotels around the island and the staff are ready to go out of their way to help.
We were on a full-board package. The dinner at the buffet was nice. However, the lamb was burnt! The chocolate mousse was over by the time we went to get it.
The lunch on the next day (my birthday!) was terrible! After waiting for 25 mins, we were served our starter. Customers coming after us were served before us. When asking about the catch of the day, we were told there was fish while others were told there was calamari and different variety of fish! After asking a different waiter, we were told we could have the calamari. After 45 mins of waiting, I was served rubbery calamari. It was hard and I literally had 4 french fries on my plate! My boyfriend was given mixed veg instead of his green salad and I had to wait for 15 mins before my wine glass was filled. After lunch, we were still sitting at our table when we were told to leave as they had to set the table for dinner service!!
The service was bad and we had this impression that we were in the wrong place! Thank you for ruining what could've been a beautiful day for me.

Just spent 14 nights here in the Mauritian winter at a perfect temperature for us, if a little cloudy occasionally. The hotel exceeded our expectations with service and cleanliness and we were particularly impressed that they turned the air conditioning unit back on for our block after we made a complaint that the room was not staying cool at night. This is a cost saving measure many hotels employ in the cooler season and some people might not notice it but we did and were grateful for their response. The food was good and we liked having the different restaurant options to choose from. If you eat at the Chateau with your free voucher you may opt to return! You gave been warned! It is a special place in a unique setting with a lovely ambience. Eating at the beach restaurant and the Asian fusion restaurant can be enjoyed without adding too much cost to your all inclusive price if you choose sensibly. We enjoyed the buffet most days and the beach service fish and chips were good too! We would return to this hotel should we go back to Mauritius.

Room Tip: Take the prestige room option and ask for one on the top floor to get the best view.
