Remember that song out of the Footloose-Soundtrack in the 80ies? Came back yesterday from our honeymoon and it was for us exactely like I expected it to be, no to be honest, even better. The renewed hotel is almost paradis indeed!
Our room directy on the beach was gorgeous, it was raining a few days, so we had time to use the Spa, which is like a dream come true, but actually so is the whole resort with its gardens, plants, colours, smells, I could go on much more longer now....
And everything was surrounded by the always smiling staff, those people there are so friendly, we never saw an crabby face. This is something my husband and me recognized every day and want to point it out.
We had an almost perfect Candlelight dinner in I guess in of the most classy restaurants I've ever been to, the Mon Desir. The menu we had there was unexcelled, the set-up of the tables with the candleholders, Orchids, it was just marvellous!
It was a briliant trip which we will never forget, everything there was heavenly perfect, the beach, the gardens, the Spa, the food, the staff, congratulations to the management and to the team to deal with that big resort in such a smooth way. We never felt more comfortable and welcome in a hotel of this size!

We stayed in the recently upgraded part of the hotel. The room was lovely, very spacious and complete with thoughtful little extras - flowers, fresh fruit, bath robes and slippers and mosquito repellant to name just a few. The food was wonderful. Loads of choice for breakfast and on the a la carte nights the food was cooked to perfection. I can honestly say we never had a bad meal in the whole of the two weeks we stayed. The staff are so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The bar staff were great and were quick to remember what your favourite drink was. Devon in particular looked after us exceptionally well, even to requesting the band to play our favourite tune to dance to. Manouj on reception always went out of his way to be helpful.
We went on the sunset bike tour, a little on the expensive side but well worth it. The Coconut Island trip was very nice but certainly not worth the price we paid. We hired a taxi for the day and found this the best way to see the island as we could decide where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see. Pamplemousse gardens are worth a visit.
The hotel is well laid out in spacious grounds with waterfalls and giant tortoise and includes a beautiful spa (well worth booking in for treatment) and the chateau restaurant for that extra special dining experience. Also, this is the first holiday we have been on where water skiing was part of the all inclusive package. The water skiing team were very entertaining.
We can highly recommend this hotel and will certainly go back.

This is the best hotel for your honermoon.Period!Being my first time out of india,I was made to feel completely at home in this secluded yet ravishing hotel. We had a sea facing room with complete privacy.(All rooms are sea facing though)Breakfast and dinner being complimentary,me and my better half gorged on the food.Food was typically continental. My wife got bored with the food after a couple of days and so we went in search of indian food, which was scarce outside also. But since i love continental food,I was quite happy. So all you out there,if you got to mauritius, forget about indian food.Enjoy mauritian and french delicacies and stop cribbing. It makes sense to be a roman in rome. Our hotel had the finest of french food and exciting sea food which i gorged upon. But i kept the calories down with an hour in the hotel gymnasium and spa.The ayurveda massage was the best.I felt completely elated after the massage. For those who love swimming, the hotel had a pool overlooking the sea, which was wonderful.Even though the hotel had a private beach, the water was murky and not fit for swimming. But we enjoyed the water sports.Diving lessons are complimentary and i became a certified diver in a week.Staff was very friendly and helping.I will certainly want to return to this hotel to re-live my honeymoon.

Waste water discharge onto the beach, sickness in the hotel, restaurants closing for no reason (or do they deep-clean?),staff unhappy, room not serviced properly, wild dogs roaming on the beach .....this is a hotel in trouble....not a good situation for a relaxing holiday in a tropical paradise!. I discovered from other guests who were complaining that the room prices vary depending on occupancy level!.......with rooms being sold for half the pice I paid, not what you expect from a hotel that claims to be 4 star! I will not return.

The Maritim Mauritius is just perfect, don't know where to start...
I guess I will start right from the beginning.
After a really long and exhausting trip we saw this green tropical garden and nature park which is flanked by the Indian Ocean I mean - imagine, beeing tired and exhausted and then this marvellous sight?! Just breathtaking!
The enviroment is so friendly, the truely dedicated and genuinely friendly nature of the ever smiling Mauritian staff. It was a every day pleasure seeing them laughing and smiling. Allthough we had all-inclusive we still wanted to dine in the new, fine dining restaurant "Chateau Mon Desir", and we were delighted by the fanatstic food, the location and surroundings, the service, simply everything.
Me and my husband have been travelling a lot and have ssen lots of hotels around the world. But I have to say that this hotel is one of the best I've ever been to. Not just the surroundings, the fascinating natural scenery, our inviting, modern, spacious, and yet cosy room with sea view to have the possibility to see those awesome sunsets, and last but not least the the flexibility to meet the guests’ requirements of every single person working there. From the maid to the Management.
We will be definately coming back, the trip was worth every single cent!

My husband and I have just returned from the Maritim Hotel. This was our fourth visit; we go every year with a large group which includes family and friends, a total of about 20 of us. The hotel has been refurbished since our last visit (the rooms were in need of some work); our room this time was lovely, very spacious, huge bathroom with a free-standing bath.
There have however been some changes which are not so good. One of the new 'rules' is that guests staying in the Prestige rooms can no longer take breakfast in La Maree. This facility is only open now to guests staying in 'suites'. This is a huge disappointment as La Maree is an idyllic place to sit and have your breakfast and lunch as opposed to the 'Butlins-style' Belle-Vue restaurant. The service at La Maree is also better and the staff far more friendly, and the whole atmosphere more intimate. I'm sure this will affect return guests who have been used to this facility and can no longer benefit from it.
The general standard of food has deteriorated compared to previous visits and there seems to be less choice.
Perhaps one of the most concerning issues however is a change in policy to address low occupancy rates, probably resulting from the global economic climate. To try to address this, the management team decided to offer a 2-3 night promotion at extremely discounted rates. This led to an influx of 150-200 local people arriving at the resort, which had a dramatic impact on the general ambience of the hotel and its amenities. The pool was extremely busy, very loud; the buffet in the Belle-Vue became a scrum, and the rooms were noisier as there seemed to be as many as 6-8 people in some rooms! Unfortunately this coincided with a widespread outbreak of gastroenteritis; in our group alone, 8 people out of the 12 of us remaining contracted the virus and were laid low for 2-3 days and had to call a doctor out.
Many of the repeating guests at the hotel, both German and English, were extremely unhappy with this new policy and have indicated that they will most likely not return until the situation there has been addressed.
On a positive note most of the staff were outstanding as usual, in particular Jay (beach supervisor), Ishwaree and Vidya (both in the La Maree restaurant). The helpful, friendly manner of the staff is probably the greatest strength of the hotel.
In general, a disappointing holiday considering the relatively high cost combined with high expectation from previous visits.
Sadly, we will not be returning next year as it seems the Maritim has somewhat lost its 'magic'. We hope that the Managment team address the issues outlined above so that loyal repeat guests can once again enjoy a wonderful holiday in an idyllic location.
