Stunning hotel

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Aug 2019
The location of the hotel is about 1 hour away from the airport.

Private grounds which are safe and welcoming

Lots of included activities in the all inclusive option (sea kayaking, glass bottom boat, snorkelling, paddle boarding and water skiing to name a few)

Main buffet restaurant is excellent, very wide range of food that would suit all diners. The al a carte restaurants are good however service can be a bit slow here (especially waiting for the bill).

Drinks options are plentiful however again can be slow on the service side of things

WiFi is offered however it is incredibly slow and so if you need to be online you will absolutely need an alternative than the hotel WiFi

Rooms are of a good size and have both a bath and separate shower. Air conditioning is good

We spent two enjoyable weeks at the Maritim in August. We were on AI and found the staff always friendly and helpful. The hotel is laid out well and the grounds are beautifully kept.
The beach is good and although it is winter in August the temperature was about 23°C each day with a slight wind and most days were sunny. Turtle Bay shelters the beach from most of the waves and so usually the bay is calm. One part of the beach is for the sole use of people who have a suite. The hotel provides several activities free. It was a joy to be on the beach and not have to endure loud music being pumped out.
Most people eat in the main restaurant (the Belle Vue) which is a buffet service. There was a wide choice of foods available. There are other restaurants, a few of which offer a free limited choice menu with the option of paying for the a-la-carte menu. We enjoyed the Asian restaurant.

Our room was a nice size, the bathroom clean and the shower hot. Rooms had continental electrical sockets with one UK 13-amp outlet. A kettle and complimentary tea/coffee were provided. The minibar had some free and some pay-for drinks. A nice touch is that drinking water is provided daily in glass bottles to help save on plastic waste. The aircon and dehumidifier worked well.
It would be difficult for disabled people to stay at this hotel as there are quite a lot of stairs. There are no twin-bedded rooms.
The Wi-Fi worked everywhere – including the beach!
It was a pleasure to stay at the Maritim.

Want to start by saying....please do not listen to any negative reviews or let them put you off booking this all round amazing resort! This was our 2nd visit (1st visit 2013) and it was still as breathtaking as the 1st. Before we went the 2nd time I myself was apprehensive regarding some negative reviews and contacted the resort who were so helpful and reassuring. On arrival all my apprehension was immediately put to rest as it was just as amazing as I remember. All I can say is these people that leave bad reviews saying....rats running around, grounds very tired, rooms tired, staff slow and rude and complaints about the food must of stayed at a different hotel to me!!

The staff were amazing from start to finish in all areas and nothing was too much trouble, our room was clean, modern and spacious (3 adults sharing) with a separate walk in wardrobe, the grounds are kept so beautiful are to die for, the facilities are all you need and more especially the water sports like water skiing, glass bottom boats, snorkelling trips provided as part of your All Inclusive. The food was excellent in all restaurants (ok it gets a bit samie towards the end but that’s the same for all, All Inclusive resorts after a while in my opinion!) also there is some supplements on the menu if you choose but there was still plenty of choice if you don’t want to pay a supplement!

While we was there we had 2, 20th birthday celebrations and the staff on the beach restaurant, La Maree couldn’t of been more cheerful and helpful in wanting to make their day special for them by having sparking wine waiting at breakfast, and the table decorated with flowers and a cake at dinner.

Yes I agree that there needs to be more varied entertainment in the evenings, as it can get very quiet. Also scrap the supplements to make it easier all round and bring in line with other All Inclusive resorts.

I highly recommend The Maritim and will definitely be returning to paradise and checking out their refurbishment Thank you to the management and staff, keep up the amazing service!

The hotel is on a beautiful, huge site, with a lovely beach, very good snorkelling and a good range of water activities. The room we had was lovely, though there are strong rumours of a major refurb next year, so check that out if planning to book. The staff simply cannot do enough for you. Food in all the restaurants was very good, scrupulously clean and with a good variety. The only themed restaurant we didn’t like much was the posh Chateau Mon Desir, which we found lacking in atmosphere, VERY pricey and somewhat pretentious. Also, the Beach BBQ is not really on the beach! Excellent was Lakaz Kreol serving a set menu to only 10 guests seated at a round table. We are British and dined with 8 lovely Germans who made it a memorable evening. All restaurants must be booked except the Belle Vue, which is the main eating place.
One warning about the Maritim. There are degrees of guest – B&B, All Incl and Premium. If you can possibly stretch to it, go for Premium as there are so many things not available to other guests, that the Hotel’s credentials as All Inclusive are questionable.
We were there for a special occasion and absolutely loved it.

My wife and I stayed here for 11 nights in July and loved every minute of it! We ate in all the restaurants and weren't disappointed. The Chateau was expensive but worth every penny with top class service and cuisine. We especially loved having breakfast and lunch most days at La Maree on the beach with it's amazing views across the ocean and a varied menu that had something for everyone. The range of water sports were excellent and I even rode a horse for the first time in 30 years which I thoroughly enjoyed. If I had one criticism it would be that the wifi was very poor and ordinarily it wouldn't be a problem, as I go on holiday for a break, but in this case I had to do some work and it wasn't great. Overall though we can't recommend it enough and I would suggest booking a Prestige room so you get extra space and breakfast at La Maree on the beach instead of the buffet.

Room tip: Prestige room but all rooms have some sort of sea view.

Stayed here for a week in April. Changed rooms a few times due to ants cockroaches and general cleanliness. Hotel grounds are tired and in need of updating. Bar service is very slow especially around the pool. Limited options for food and all inclusive is not all inclusive as we know it with most options requiring an additional supplement. Food isn’t great. Average. Pool chairs are tired. If you pay extra for a suite you get to sit on a nicer part of the beach! The bbq was awful. Rats running around. Lack of cleanliness. A number of other South African families were complaining for the same issues. Some positives include Banyan restaurant which made special food due to dietary requirements and chef Kenny was fabulous. As were waiter/waitress Rambo and Charlene. Yuvrin was very nice in the marine for breakie. Dev and Bob at the quarter deck bar made some special drinks and provided a happy friendly service. Sahal in the bar and Shiv provided great service and Ganesha made the best pornstar martini. The hotel will be undergoing a revamp later this year so hopefully this will improve the facilities and quality of stay. I wouldn’t go back!
