First of all, a small word of caution. The first picture you see of the restaurant, is not the Le Bougainville of Blue Bay. That's the restaurant of same name in Flic-en-Flac. There is one other picture of the restaurant which, is the correct one. The one which shows the restaurant in a leafy green environment with seating in a covered patio and an old cream coloured building with a blue tin roof.
Used to drop in quite frequently at this gem of a restaurant all through my 4 years stay at Mauritius, between 2002 and 2005. Went over for a meal when I was visiting Mauritius in 2008 and more recently again. Was delighted to find nothing has changed in more than a decade. The same quality food, the casual beach front ambience, quick service and variety of cocktails. Everything was as I had come to appreciate, except the price. It's a tad expensive now. And that's the only reason why I have rated this place Very Good and not Excellent.
Their signature dish is Heart of Palm with Smoked Fish. If you have never tried Heart of Palm then you must go for it. Its the soft delicious centre of a palm tree. Another personal favourite is the Sea Food Platter with Garlic bread. Deep fried, batter encrusted, Squid, Octopus, Prawn and Fish with Tartare sauce. Goes so well with chilled local Phoenix beer. Have uploaded pics of both dishes.
This is a place I would certainly find time to revisit, every time I at Mauritius.
