What a brilliant hotel - you do not have a care in the world. Would certainly visit again.Hotel was not full yet guests were spread evenly through the resort.
Breakfast buffet could show more variety.

This hotel is situated on the end of a peninsular, so you have sea on three sides, the water was calm and clear, but quite cold as we were still in their winter, over by suite 80 was a very small beach, which was good for snorkelling, you are only about waist deep, tide dependant, then you are at the edge of the coral reef. there are also all of the water sports that are inclusive, there are hobbycats, kayaks, water skiing, the glass bottom boat and two trips a day out to the reef for snorkelling.
Breakfast in the morning is in the Le Grand Port, which is buffet style, which had a good selection for all tastes, this was also open for lunch and dinner, if you wish to use the themed restaurants, you do need to book, pretty much as soon as you arrive, unfortunately when we were there the Italian restaurant was closed for refurbishment, and it was difficult to get booked in.
We did try the Teak Elephant, which is a Thai restaurant that's seats about fifty guests, but was not to our tastes, as everything seemed to taste of fish oil, or shrimp paste with lots of chilli, and as the menu is set, there is no choice, Le Sirius restaurant is there tropical restaurant, with a varied selection, and you choice your courses, personally this was our favourite, but only managed to dine here once, there sea food restaurant was very nice, Le Boucanier, we chose to pay a supplement for the lobster, which was delicious, plus the service here was much more relaxed than the others.
The site has two spa's that we decided to try, both very well laid out, plus the service was excellent.
The staff were all very polite and friendly, and were happy to help.
My only gripes are that the quality of the beds are quite poor and hard.
In the buffet, lunch times, the selection of cold meats and salad items were limited, you could get things, but always had to ask, and also nearly all the vegetables were curried, plus the cooked meat could be very under cooked, and you had to pick through it.
At the bar, the cocktails, there was no consistency, every time you ordered a pina colada it tasted different to the last one.
In my opinion if the Shandrani could address these issues, this would be an excellent hotel.

We were very pleased with our recent stay at Shandrani. The kindness and welcome from the staff is certainly unique. Starting from the porters to everyone who works there they will greet you in a very pleasant and honest manner. We loved the all inclusive concept: it worked for us as we did not have to worry about signing receipts etc. The food at Sirius and Bouncannier, the buffet and the Teak Elephant restaurant were excellent with a great variety of local produce. We went snorkelling more or less everyday - many thanks to the staff who work in the boat house they are knowledgeable when it comes to telling us about the fish in the bay. The managers and all other staff are working as a team which is fantastic, hence it gives the hotel a good feeling and joy. The De Lux room was spacious and well kept. We will certainly return as we are missing the weather, the gentle breeze and the kindness of the staff. I will certainly recommend this hotel - it works for families as well as couples. The mini club has some excellent staff also. We can only say thank you for making our stay memorable. D.R & P.R

Room Tip: I will recommend the De Lux Room, but having said that the rooms near the bay are fantastic.

Ten of us were taken on a 'significant age' celebration by the matriarch. She swears by the place - has returned 11 times! The long plane flight was made easier by our takeover of business class - quite what the other four people in the plush cabin thought of our large party I'm not sure, but luckily they were carted off to a different hotel.
The Shandrani is a kind of luxury version of an all inclusive resort. It's big, but with only a couple of hundred rooms so it never ever feels crowded. The setting is incredible, it's on a peninsular so is surrounded by water on three sides with three beaches, two on the lagoon side and the other on the rougher sea side but still inside of the reef. Yes you're near the airport so there are planes taking off over the hotel, but there aren't many and it's quite a spectacular sight. The restaurants are fabulous, make sure you book them early though as the restaurant booker at the desk in reception seems to be the most unhelpful and snide member of staff in the hotel. He's the only one though, from everyone else you get a first class service, welcoming and helpful all of the time. Rooms are fabulously appointed - I wouldn't call then five star rooms though - comfortably four star at best. The facilities are incredible - much to the matriarch's shock (who imagined us supping rum & coke on the beach from 10am) we all spent most of our time playing tennis, golf, kayaking, water skiing, windsurfing and mountain biking. All of these are included so you just turn up and book your courts/tee time/boats etc...
You know you're somewhere a bit special when there's an extensive wine list at each restaurant, but they're still part of the all inclusive - in fact the only thing you'll have to shell out for is any spa treatments (apart from the massage that you get anyway).
Drinks are all premium brand like Bombay Sapphire and Grey Goose, but the Piña Coladas are to die for!
We will definitely come back with the children when they are a bit older, when we've won the lottery.

We stayed at Shandrani in July 2014 for a week. Although it was winter in Mauritius we had wonderful weather. The resort is definitely 5 star with the kindest staff that did everything to make our stay so special. We stayed in a superior room, but will recommend the deluxe rooms instead. Food was excellent! We had lunch at the Surius restaurant every day which was our favorite and for dinner the Thai & Seafood restaurants were amazing. Book your dinners in advance. Great snorkeling around the resort with a glass bottom boat that takes you out everyday. Will definitely go back.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms close to the Surius bar/ Wild beach
