Got back in October after spending 2 weeks at Merville Beach. On arrival after a very long flight we were met with a smile, a cool drink and a hot towel, (all most welcome). As it was well into the time for dinning we went straight into our evening meal. This did not worry the staff, and as we found out during our stay, ALL staff were prepared to go the extra mile. We went all inclusive (recommended), and all meals were very good. If you could not find anything that you fancied, you just had a word with the chef and he would do you something different, no problem.

The location was good, as it was only a short walk into Grand Baie, also the beach was good. Water sports at the hotel were free, this included water skiing, (had to be tried). At the time that we were there we had no trouble getting a bed on the beach or the pool.

Our room was in the main block, top floor, (only 3 floor) it was comfortable and very clean, with sea views. It would not be fair to name just one member of staff, as they were all so good.
If we were to go to Mauritius again we would not bother to look at any other hotel, we would return to Merville Beach. An excellent holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms in the main block have sea view, but top floor is good.

We were there for our honeymoon not more than two weeks ago, spent eight lovely nights at the Lux Merville hotel, the staff is excellently trained for a 3 star hotel and so nice, we always received a service with a smile something which is increasingly decreasing in Europe. Food is very good and the hotel is very clean. A perfect escape highly recommended!

Last month, at Merville Beach we spent eight days. The reason for our trip was the wedding.
It was held on the beach, and it was like a fairy tale. Everything, from the arrival and welcome at the hotel, all began as a fairy tale. We used a standard room, which was beautifully decorated, spacious and clean and has a beautiful view of the hotel garden. That was all we care about considering that we spent the whole day at the beach. The beach by the hotel is fantastic , clean with plenty of sun loungers wich you can use as hotel guests free of charge.
The food we were delighted, every evening presented different kitchen so we among others tried Chinese, Italian and Indian food . My wife is especially thrilled about breakfast that was so diverse from omelettes and bacon to pancakes and waffles .
All commendation to the team of hotel. They won our hearts. I particularly want to commend Neha, Vikram and Kevin, and of course all the other, unfortunately we do not know their names.
Neha was our wedding coordinator and made sure to fulfill all our wishes and dreams. She enjoy her work.
In the hotel we were so relaxed from everyday life and we realized our wish and got married .
We hope soon to return to the Merville beach hotel. Thanks again to everyone.
WE MISS YOU!

My wife and I chose the Merville Beach in Grand Baie for our 2 week honeymoon based on some good revues on TripAdvisor. But that was not all. What impressed us also were the replies to visitor reviews by the Manager, Mr Tony Duval. His responses to good and bad comments showed he cared and having met him at the resort we could clearly see that was the case. He was often seen mingling and talking to guests.
Before arriving I had contacted the hotel reception a week in advance asking if they could arrange white lilies for our room, being my wife’s favourites. Vinela at reception was fantastic and ensured this happened.
At arrival at around 7.30am we were greeted by Kevin. What a guy. So friendly and accommodating, fully understanding that we’d had a long flight, were thirsty and needed breakfast.
But first some mini towels to freshen up. So whilst waiting for our room he took us straight to the restaurant and ensured we were fed and watered.
By the time we’d finished, our room was ready, way ahead of the afternoon availability we’d expected.
Kevin took our bags personally to our room. Room number 550 (cinq cent cinquante).
WOW! What a view greeted us. The sea, beach, trees and blue skies. Paradise.
The room was beautiful and clean and of course with the lilies.
The bed was very large. The balcony very spacious including a table, 2 chairs and 2 loungers. The room also had tea and coffee making facilities, peanuts, mini bar with beer, coke, diet coke, carton juice and water.
Our room was a beachfront deluxe – honeymoon offer, booked via www.travelbag.co.uk
The room is on the 2nd and top floor.
The resort was spotless with staff cleaning meticulously.
The beach swept every morning.
The internet worked well and was free as was the international phone outside of reception.
Our package was all-inclusive and recommended.
The meals were breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, dinner. The breakfast, lunch and themed dinners were superb.
Breakfast was plentiful, juices, coffee, cereals, fruit, eggs done how you like, omelettes perfectly made by the ever smiling Radha. Breads to die for. Sausage, bacon, waffles, pancakes etc.
Lunch varied and at times was buffet other times off a menu. The bar itself did have a menu too.
Dinner was themed. Now there will always be people who complain on TripAdvisor about repetitive food or cold food, but consider the following before judging. When ordering a take-away at home or visiting a local restaurant, is their menu different every single week? No.
As for the heat, if hot food is buffet style it is generally kept in food warmers that have rolling lids. Every time someone opens that lid and keeps it open, it allows the heat out. So there is always the risk that certain foods may not have been piping hot as they were continuously opened (even though each was clearly labelled) but none were cold. All were very edible. As for the flavours, the themed days included Indian, Mauritian, Italian, European and Chinese. And finally, if there was nothing that could tickle the taste buds, as can sometimes be the case, the restaurant staff would generally accommodate by arranging an alternative, especially Vidya, always smiling and greeting us and being ever attentive and accommodating.
The resort has a really nice bar area, both covered and in the open looking out onto the sea. Plenty of seating at the bar or at a table and comfy chairs. Once again the bar staff were very friendly especially Yogesh. Yogesh was fantastic. Always smiling, being attentive, polite, swift and providing a fab service. It was always a pleasure to see him there. Fantastic member of staff.
Nightly there was early entertainment around dinner time with a guitarist, singer and very pleasant. This was followed by other entertainers as well as a karaoke night. In honesty, the earlier entertainment was much the better, as the later was more varied and not always to everyone’s taste, but that’s our opinion.
Moving onto the beach there was the boathouse. From here you got your beach towel.
From here you also booked your free water skiing (and guaranteed they will have you up skiing, thanks JJ), snorkelling, glass bottom boat, kayaking, windsurfing, sailing and pedaloes if I recall. The boathouse also arranged trips of which we took a swim with the dolphins, recommended. There are a few registered beach hawkers selling trips, clothing and jewellery. You can’t miss Jean Paul, but we stayed with the boathouse for our trips, who were fantastic, always remembered our names and ever accommodating.
In addition we also took advantage of the spa and the gym and can say that both were most enjoyable.
The hotel also has a tennis court for guest use, but take your own tennis balls.
The pool albeit smallish did have daily activities for those desiring them.
Other activities included cycling (I believe a small fee) and doughnuts pulled by the speed boat.
We hired a car for a week and were pleased we did as we did not want to spend all day on trips, however, others we met loved the trips. Horses for courses as they say.
Trips we did and can recommend in order of enjoyment were
1. Casela Nature and Leisure Park - http://www.caselayemen.mu/index-eng.php
We walked with the lions – fantastic.
Zip wired across the canyons and walked the rope bridge – not for the faint hearted, wear trainers and not your best clothes.
2 hour quad buggy – great fun. Approximately 10 miles.
The restaurant there is reasonably priced with fantastic views.
The park itself is great to walk in and see the animals. We spent the whole day there and was worth every penny.
2. L’Aventure du Sucre - http://www.aventuredusucre.com/
Very interesting and informative.
3. Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens (aka Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens).
Pleasant walk in fab gardens though don’t expect Kew Gardens style. More for the tree enthusiast rather than flower.
4. Port Louis old town, especially the market.
The new shopping area is not all that great. See the real capital in the old town.
5. Triolet
Longest high street in Mauritius.
Also has The Maheshwarnath Temple, the largest Hindu temple on the island.
6. Cap Malheureux
A small and pretty church on the north west coast.
7. Rochester Falls near Souillac
Volcanic created falls. Not for the infirm as lot of walking on uneven ground.
8. Souillac – southern most point in Mauritius
Great coastline with crashing waves.
9. Grand Baie
Did not over impress us, albeit had a great new McDonalds! We always try and have a Bog Mac everywhere we go in the world!!
10. Curepipe
We only drove through it but is where many local inhabitants of Mauritius live.
So to summarise. A fantastic honeymoon courtesy of The Merville Beach Hotel.
It may only be 3 star but it left us with a 5 star memory.
We can’t thank the staff enough including all those not mentioned.
We thank you all and of course Mr Tony Duval for making it so special.

Room Tip: We had room 550. Great sea and beach view. Away from the restaurant and bar area.
