“Nearest thing to authentic Mauritius?”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

Doesn't look much from outside, or inside for that matter, however don't be.put off. They do amazing cocktails here which work out at an average of about 70 Rupees (£1.50), definitely the best cocktails we have had so far. We shared the mixed samosas which were crisp and tasty, the calamari coating slightly soft, but the squid inside succulent. The crab creole was very tasty but difficult to eat, requiring a lot of shell cracking with teeth and sucking of meat and juice out of claws. Chicken with Indian spices a pleasant mild curry. A highly alcoholic flambeed pineapple and ice cream with a vanilla rum to finish off. Accompanied by a bottle of SA Chenin Blanc, and a lively crowd at tables and bar. All this came to the princely sum of 1200 Rupees (£25).

“Good times had in La Marmite”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

We eat here for lunch one day and in the evening another, food freshly cooked at a good price. But mostly popped in for drinks in the evenings, cocktails about £2 and lager cheap. The owner, Man and Vip were friendly and gave good service. It is used by locals but also tourists that visited regularly as often saw same faces. The only drawback was that it closed too early.

“Cheap meal which was freshly cooked, what more do you need?”
Reviewed 15 May 2013 via mobile

All the people complaining about service, sadly you can't have it all! If you want a very well priced meal in Trou-aux-biches which is freshly prepared and tastes good, go here. If you want great service and large portions go elsewhere. I am a tourist with a large appetite and I didn't leave feeling hungry. The service was more than acceptable.

For the first time in my life I ordered crab soup and it actually had crab in it. Normally it's seafood sticks in some salted water but this was the real deal.

It's not fine dining, it's good value food where the locals go to eat, learn to mingle.

“not for tourists”
Reviewed 10 April 2013

If you are a tourist, don't go there anymore. It may have been good, sometime, but that is no longer an address to recommand.
The portions are ridiculous. But the most disturbing is the server. Arrogant, unpleasant, exactly what you would think should NOT work in contact with clients. He's been there for 10 years, well, time to change...
I went twice, to make sure. But never again
