“Gorgeous gem of a hotel”
Reviewed 10 February 2013

This is a much-overdue rating about one of my personal favorite places to stay: Le Sakoa in Trou aux Biches, Mauritius. We have stayed here several times over the past 10 years. We have seen the hotel change and grow, and despite Le Sakoa's increasing popularity, we still love it. The personnel is attentive and friendly. They will go out of their way to serve your needs and requests. The rooms are clean and large in size. The restaurant is a bit slow, but ok. The beach is probably the best one I have ever seen! Although there is no kids club, our children have always managed to make friends with other travelers (as have we) and enjoyed themselves playing on the beach or in the water swimming/kayaking etc.... Local Mauritians are extremely friendly. All in all, Le Sakoa is one of those places you would rather not tell too many people about for fear that it will lose its charm.... Well, it's too late now!

Nice Boutique hotel, beachside villas are excellent.....limited menu but quiet, relaxing and friendly. Good facilities and excellent atmosphere......watch out for chancers on the beach though pretending to be linked to the hotel, who then try and engage you in conversations and get invited in as "your guest"......more an annoyance than anything else and the staff are very hot on it anyway.....

Room Tip: Go for beachside Villas, but make sure things like scuba gear are inside the rooms at night as the b...

A super hotel, great value for money for Mauritius. The rooms and grounds are gorgeous, seaview worth paying a little extra for otherwise you may get a little road noise on your balcony. The staff were lovely. Food was good though evening meals the choice was limited and so few people eatnig there the atmosphere was non-existant, food was good though. Be warned in the evenings this place is VERY quiet. Whilst we were there no-one appeared to drink in the bar and at maximum there were three tables for dinner. If you like big resort hotels and being sociable with others you won't like this place, but for us that is the charm and attraction. There is a very good restaurant 6-7 minutes walk away, see my restaurant review. We had four nights here and five at the Dinarobin which was probably a good mix for us. I would go back.

Room Tip: pay extra for the seaview, well worth it

We absolutely loved our three-night stay here. The hotel is small and lovely, with a pretty courtyard, well-designed rooms, and a nice spot on the beach with a prime sunset viewing location.

The rooms also have a decent-sized kitchenette, which enables you to cook your meals, which you can then eat on your own private balcony. Food and supplies can be bought at the small grocery store nearby (walk outside the hotel, make a right, and it will be on your left-hand side a few blocks down).

The hotel will lend you kayaks and paddle boats free of charge, which is fun. They also offered us complimentary 15-minute massages, which were great. I ended up getting a full body massage as well; the price is very reasonable. (Note that they don't have a full-sized spa, but rather a small room that's on the edge of the beach.)

We stayed in two places in Mauritius (this and Tamassa in Bel Ombre), and preferred this one. The only drawback for us was the restaurant, which we didn't like very much for dinner (though the breakfasts were excellent). You might also not like it if you're looking for a resort with more amenities, such as a bigger pool, a variety of water sports, or a gym. But if you're okay with not having access to that, and are looking for a more boutique flavor with more personalized attention, I can't recommend this more highly.

Pretty much perfect holiday accommodation, with wonderful huge bedrooms, big bathrooms with very good walk-in shower, dressing area & kitchen with fridge freezer and cooking facilities.
Can think of nothing even slightly bad to say about the rooms & gardens. The housekeeping, security & maintenance staff were all excellent in every way as well.
The beach in front of the hotel, with plenty of wooden sun loungers and big comfy pads/pillows for hotel guest use, was impressive and as a break from the sun the huge terraces/balconies fronting each room with their cane chairs, cushions and tables and dining chairs made a perfect escape from the sun.

Outside the gates of the hotel, was car parking. A few steps further down the road there is a supermarket, pizza place & fruit/vegetable stand. Bus stops were very close by and if you stood still on the pavement for more than a few seconds a taxi would be sure to stop to see if you wanted to go somewhere.

The hotel offers half board, but I would not recommend this option. If there is a let down at all at this hotel it is the dinners. Breakfast is fine, but whilst the food at dinner is not as bad as claimed by some reviewers, my one regret was committing ourselves to the half board option which served up some pretty mediocre food on several (or more) nights.

We met several people who where returning visitors and I can well understand why, my partner is already hassling me to book again for next year. A thoroughly great place to stay for a non-packaged & peaceful holiday.

Room Tip: Some non sea view rooms suffer from traffic noise. Walk onto the beach one evening to watch the fru...

Lovely hotel, fantastic sized rooms. Little kichenette and fridge etc a bonus. Beds are comfy, very clean and very comfortable in all. The beach is fantastic. Sheltered, good for swimming and just a short walk along the beach you can do done water sports. The hotel provide kayaks and pedals free of charge which we used too. Good fun!
I like the smallness of the hotel and staff were friendly. The restaurant was good although I found the menu a little limiting but that is probably because I am allergic to fish! My husband thought the choice was fine.
It's also great to have the lite supermarket literally a 2 min wk from the hotel to stock up on water and beers. The little pizza place right next door to the supermarket was excellent.
We got the bus into grand Baie a few times and ate there some evenings. You have to get a taxi back though as the buses stop at 8pm I think.
We would definitely return!!!!
