“Relax, enjoy the view!”
Reviewed 7 February 2014 via mobile

OK, let’s be honest here - this is not a super luxurious hotel if this is what you are looking! But what it offers is the most relaxing atmosphere and friendly service. It is a quiet place, next to the beach with all the rooms facing the ocean (you can actually hear the waves when in the room). The rooms are kept very clean and so are the balconies. Food was good, but could have been better. The hotel offers free bicycle hire, which I highly recommend as you can cycle to neighboring villages with no problems, it is safe as well. To sum up, if you want a quiet holiday during which you will relax and ‘switch-off’ mentally, this is the place for you! If you like a busy hotel, with lots of different things going on, loud music, this is NOT it!

There is a ‘Boat House’ next to the hotel, they offer quite good catamaran trips at reasonable prices. They also take you to the Ile aux Cerfs twice a day for free (highly recommended).

Another tip: we hired an amazing taxi driver who drove us anywhere we wanted for the whole day, which was a much more pleasant experience than being in a van full of people. There are so many things to see in Mauritius you need 2-3 days to be able to fully appreciate this beautiful island.

Happy to answer your questions if you need any advice.

We stayed at this lovely hotel in December 2013. We spent 15 nights here. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. They all go out of the way to remember you and make you feel special especially the guys in the restaurant, they do a wonderful job.The customer service in the hotel is A1.
Very clean and tidy hotel. On our last day our flight was in the evening, the manager arranged for us to keep our room for a few more hours as it was available. This was really helpful of him.He is at the hotel often to make sure all is running well.Food is good with a v.ariety available. definately would come again. We also stayed in a 5* hotel and we prefered the Tropical Attitude.

What a lovely hotel with EXCELLENT & FRIENDLY service. We made use of all entertainment on offer and enjoyed it thoroughly: Scuba divingschool on premises; guided day tour to explore island; free snorkelling in lagoon-taken to fishy spots with motorboat; free trip to island by boat to go sunbathing & swimming (has restaurants, beachbars and gholfcourse on island).
The averaged designed rooms are always clean. If something did not work, personnel replaced it immediately or make plan to fix. Always warm water.
Food was very tasty, off a set menu. Due to the fact that my partner was allergic to onions, staff accommodated us with specially made meals which were VERY impressive.
Oct/Nov/Dec the best time to visit this hotel - no serious winds and weather is perfect.
This is a place that we will return to again and again (just as the guests we have met there that have returned for over 18 yrs!!) - you get value for money at this 3# hotel with 5# service!!

I have to say that I really don't understand how this hotel has received ANY bad reviews. We arrived one lunchtime in January and had lunch while our room was made up (as we had requested a specific room, which was being accommodated) and, having left a stressful job in the UK, it only took about 30 minutes to chill out!! This hotel is totally relaxing - views are wonderful from every room and we slept soundly in the enormous super king-size bed. The rooms are clean and quiet with plenty of storage and we did not find any fault with the bathroom (described by some as "dated" - so may have been updated in our room)?

Picking up on other comments, also, I found it helpful to know what was and what was not included in the package we had booked as this would avoid any misunderstanding later into the holiday - though we were on an "all inclusive" package.

Fortunately there was a mix of nationalities in the c60 rooms so no particular group "dominated" but everyone was friendly and communication was generally in English or French.

The food - well, personally I hate to watch people in larger hotels piling their plates and then leaving most of it! At breakfast there was egg/omelette made to individual specification by a lovely lady who managed to combine her cooking with sharing information regarding bus timetables etc with the guests. At both lunch and dinner there was a starter, a choice of at least three main courses (sometimes buffet and sometimes waiter service) and a range of deserts - after a two week stay I was never "bored" by the selection as has been suggested by other guests - again, perhaps comments have been taken on board.

The free transfer to the Ile aux Cerfs is a real treat and the pack-up lunch was lovely - again, ordered from a wide selection and provided in "take-away" style boxes within a handy bag.

We did three other trips - the west coast Catamaran trip at RS2,000 (£40) each booked through the boat house (cost added to room bill) was great value - rum and coke flowed freely and the lunch BBQ was gorgeous. A MASSIVE schoool (pod?) of spinner dolphins in Tamarin Bay, which swam with the catamaran and gave us some great photos. The transfer across the island took over and hour by mini-bus, which was a great way to see some of the countryside (but tiring on the way back!!).

The east coast Catamaran trip at RS 1,000 (£20) each booked via reception was also great value - a very brief boat transfer to the catamaran which then visits a waterfall (including monkey and bat spotting) and a lovely shallow snorkelling site, then over to the Ile aux Cerfs after another lovely BBQ lunch (and rum!!).

We also booked a taxi from the hotel at RS3,000 for the day. The driver took us to a variety of places to meet our personal preferences (nature and landscape), though then took us to a restaurant in Chamarel for lunch (Chez Ruben) which was vastly overpriced and cost us RS2,000 for a main course each, two beers and a glass of wine (and it was not even particularly good).

On our last day after a rain storm the electricity went off in our room just before dinner. Having tried unsuccessfully to sort it while we ate, we were invited to sleep in the vacant room below but to leave anything we did not immediately need in our original room. The following day was our last day so we just moved everything downstairs for the morning. So having experienced first and ground floor I would say that access to the beach is lovely from the ground floor but I had the impression that there might be more of the tiny ants in the lower rooms (leave a smear of coca cola or any fruit anywhere in the room and they swarm all over it in minutes!!).

Towards the end of our stay I was asked for feedback/comments and promised to share them here - my only suggestion would be that when guests are departing, someone should be at reception to bid them farewell with a smile and a wave.

Room Tip: There are sixty rooms - even numbers are ground floor and odd are to the first floor. They are arran...

Firstly, this is not a complaining review but there are a few things to mention that could be better. The choice of food in the restaurant could be more varied (although what is available is very healthy) and the drinks in the bar a little more adventurous, but that said we went knowing it is a three star hotel and as such should not expect too much. The welcome at eight in the morning was good , cool flannels and iced tea to welcome us along with breakfast before being taken to our rooms long before the conventional times was a great bonus after a long night flight and the chance to get some sleep. the rooms are basic but with fantastic views over the lagoon to the island what more could you want each morning, the rooms are quiet and peaceful and if all inclusive the mini bar contents are included and re stocked daily. the towels made into swans or elephants each day are a nice touch. The swimming pool is a good size for the size of the hotel and the number of guests, never overcrowded. The beach is not the best as mentioned previously so beach shoes are a must but a trip over to the island on the hotel boat brings takes you to some fantastic secluded beaches with white sand and turquoise sea, unfortunately due to the sea temperatures the coral reef is breaking up and causing a lot of the debris on the beaches.
While there do go out on the boat to the reef for some snorkelling and the hotel arranges a great day out on a catamaran for R1000 great value with BBQ. The evening entertainment is variable but never intrusive while sat chatting between the bar and the pool. the waiters in the restaurant and bar are very attentive.

Room Tip: all rooms have sea view

During my holiday in Mauritius I decided to try 2 hotels and during my last 3 days in Mauritius the stay was a nightmare. My husband and I were really glad on our day back to London to leave this hotel!!!!
First at the arrival on staff came to check us in and he didn't have to repeat at every sentence the prices!! " we have the mini bar in the room it's not free" "you have breakfast inc but not dinner so if you want it's not free" " We have coffee facilities it's not free" etc
Second the staff during the breakfast doesn't know how to smile and make you feel like you are not welcome as we are giving them to much work!!!
Third, no WiFi in the room only in the lobby where the WiFi does not even work and when you ask someone they don't even know how to make it work!! Ridiculous!!
Fourth, my husband and I decided to go for a drink in the bar and decided to order a cocktail but we don't drink so we ask the waiter if he could make a Mojito cocktail without alcohol and he started to say " I can do but it will be more expensive" that seriously is just a rip off as usually in a drink what make it more expensive is the alcohol !!! shame on that !!
Really had a bad stay I have more and more to say about how this hotel was a nightmare!! I will talk about this hotel for sure to my families and friends from Reunion Island who usually go to Mauritius and not in the good way that is clear!!

Tropical Attitude with its gentle way of life is a 3 star sup "Adult Only" hotel, recently renovated and smartened up, built in the middle of a garden planted with coconut trees and right on the lagoon. The hotel faces Trou d'Eau Douce, a genuine fishermen's village and its lagoon, situated on the east coast, and offers direct and free access to paradisiacal Ile aux Cerfs Island. The genuineness of the hotel relies on its Creole architecture and its contemporary tropical decoration. The new luminous colours of the 60 rooms contribute to their relaxed atmosphere. This friendly and comfortable hotel is a witness of the traditional way of life of the island, an ideal place to relax either as a family or as a couple. Time here seems to have come to a standstill, only interrupted by outings in the lagoon and siestas under the coconut trees.
